What really separates P5 from the rest is like you said, its outstanding presentation. The art style is vibrant and oozes so much personality. I knew I would spend so much time playing the moment I saw that title screen. That's an incredibly rare feat for a video game.

Played p4g and p5r back to back and they are both 10/10 but i was more attached to the characters in p4g if im being honest, they have great writing as a group
Couldnt agree more im playing through golden for the first time right now, and the characters and the story are so well written that it really feels so much more relateable. Persona 5 is great too, and the dungeons and combat are way better, but it's a lot more tropey and the characters rehash dialouge literally every 30 seconds which by the end drove me insane

I prefer Persona 3 story more but I agree Persona 5 has better gameplay tho I don’t think it’s gameplay is as investing as the others

I started with P1 on PSP. When I got to P3 and I didn't even need to change my party member Personas at all...it was a really good feeling. You had 4 characters with 3 slots each in P1, and the negotiating for spell cards... Woof.

@@garrisonsides P2 is actually 2 games, so it's a trilogy. The only options in the US for Persona 1 are the PS1 version (heavily modified for the West in the worst ways), and the PSP version. It was never ported from PSP to PS2. The first game of P2, Innocent Sin, is the same deal except we never got the PS1 version. Only PSP. P2-2, Eternal Punishment, was released on PS1 in the US, but its PSP remake was not. It's an absolute 💩 show trying to get all 3 in one bloody place in this country.

The Persona 2 duology is the perfect blend of an amazing story with twists and turns galore and unique fighting/demon negotiation combat that is slightly marred by grindyness.
Still my personal favorite(s) in the series
PSP versions of both made the games piss easy, to the point where grinding isn't needed.

I haven’t had the chance to play 1 or 2, but I think that persona 5 is the best in terms of gameplay mechanics, graphics, etc (obviously), persona 4 had the best characters and soundtrack, and persona 3 had the coolest storyline and dungeon concept
i think the people who have P3 as their favorite/best don’t have it so high because it’s “flawless” but because DESPITE its many flaws, the good parts of P3 are SO GOOD that they make up for the negatives. that’s how i am at least, even with things outside of Persona. hell my favorite JoJo part is JoJolion for like the exact same reason lol
Great list and presentation. I personally like Persona 4 Golden more than Persona 5/Royal though. I feel like Persona 5 is more badass but with less heart. I got closer to the Persona 4 cast. Persona 5 is superb too though, do not get me wrong.

I hated turn based rpgs before p5r made me fall in Love with the genre it sas perfect the music are insane and the menues and overall visuals are just mindblowing literraly everything is so stylish

My big issue with 3 is the ai controlled teammates. It makes everything a big hassle.
And while I think that p4 and p5 are better, 3 is a great game that needs some quality of life improvements, it is jarring that they choose the PSP version for the upcoming remaster. while they did put some QoL, the presentation and navigation is lackluster and take the immersion away imo.
I would prefer they just brought up Fes with said QoL improvements (just control your teammates really)
I just finished Persona 4 Golden on steam for the second time, my introduction to the series being when Golden was launched to Ps Vita.
I love Persona 4, I really do, but let’s be real, while 4 is almost perfection, 5 just is a step above and achieves perfection.
The dungeons are amazing dropping the boring of the random dungeons from before (my biggest problem with 4 and 3)
The soundtrack is far the best between the 3 games, which is unbelievable, 3 and 4 had already magnificent OSTs.
The story is engaging and meaningful, the characters are amazing…
Persona came to my life as a surprise, I got hooked up when I first got P4G on vita. Thanks to Persona, the hole that FF destruction left was easily filled in my heart and I have a JRPG to love and play.
And Persona open the doors for me to go after and play the other SMT which are jewels in their own way…
Persona 4 has my favorite story and characters, but Persona 5 has perfected the gameplay and style. It's definitely a toss-up between these 2 for me.

Accurate comment. So it depends on what you value most. I love the death theme of P3 the most so I think about it the most out of the 3. I like the characters and the music of P4 the most so I listen to it and watch clips of it the most. Gameplay dungeons are the best in P5 Royal so that is the one I replay the most.
So glad these wonderful games were made.
Other than gameplay and dungeon design those are just preferences.

I this you didn’t understand p5 plot if you are saying this, not saying that 4 and 3 plots are bad not at all they are some of my favourite in gaming but 5 has way more layers, it’s way more well written, it’s bold and it destroys japans societal canons. While you may prefer the other stories objectively everything even the characters are way better in an objective writing way. Not to mention the plot holes , 4 is probably my second fav atlus game tied with Catherine and smt3 but it’s full of plot holes around the tv world.

P5 just takes the cake. There's really no debating this.
The bricks line always gets me. Never played a persona game, always been fairly interested though, bout to check out 2 4 and 5 because of this
Id recommend starting with 2, compared to all the enhancements and changes that the later games added, persona 2 is best played for its story

I also agree with your Ranking system as well, the only difference is P4 is my fav Persona game. P4 is also the first game in my videogame history to make me full on cry.

I feel like P4 has the best Persona awakening concept in all the games. Spoilers for people who have not played the Persona Games:
The first few games all you do is play the Persona game to get Personas.
P3 is a Russian roulette type of deal where only certain people who keep their original form during the Dark Hour have the potential to summon Personas.
P5 You just randomly get a app on your phone that can let you travel into "Evil" people's heart spaces(Palaces), and if these people's "Shadows" piss you off and you rebel, then you awaken to your Persona.
Where as in P4 you have to face your OWN shadow... that knows everything about you, including the WORST parts of yourself that YOU hate the most about yourself. Your worst hang ups that hold you back in life and dark thoughts you think deep down inside get exposed in front of everyone. You have to except and embrace yourself(Even the worst parts of yourself) and admit that ALL of it is you before you get a Persona.
Everytime you save someone from the TV land in P4 you are learning things about this new ally(with No filters) that this person wouldn't even tell you about in a social link. The social Links bring more context of what you learned about them from their shadows, So you feel like you know this cast better and on a deeper level then the other Persona Cast "in my opinion".
What can be celebrated is Atlus’ commitment to improvement. Every game adds things that work, removes things that don’t and isn’t afraid to experiment in the riskier areas. P5R is also my favorite with not only the best presentation, soundtrack and gameplay, but one of the best villains and rivals (separate people) in the series. The stakes that are set in P5 and the narrative that is tied to the very beginning of the game allow for a unique sense of immersion for the MC and cast. Things that make you feel a true sense of frustration and inner conflict as you battle it out with people who have directly impacted the MCs life. We also see that branch out in the cast, allow for each dungeon to highlight your party’s struggles and develop them in real time.
Where P5R struggles is it’s overarching narrative. Sometimes the flow can get caught in individual moments, and this is a double edged sword. While this allows for villains and heroes to shine in well thought out scenarios, the grand plot can get swept under the rug while you laser focus in on the task at hand. Atlus bounces back quickly, using the real world as a thread tying the narrative back together.
I hope that P6 takes these things into account. Some noted improvements I’d love to see are stringing the narrative together both in real world and meta world, keeping the stakes prevalent even when crafting individual stories. I’d like to see a dynamic social link structure, where you not only have to level up the social links, but balance them with other characters, maybe even a romantic rival system, where if you don’t attend to a romantic partner, another party member can swoop in and try to take them (also a jealousy meter could be used). I’d also like for other party members to interact with each other more, allowing for dual social interactions and for you to even play matchmaker or social manager. All in all, I think that would keep with the spirit in improving all things Persona.

Which I guess is good in a way, because it implies the series has only gotten better with time.
I've been a Persona Fanboy since 2007 when I got Persona 3 and idk why it's so unpopular to pick 5 as the best. I guess it's because it was popular and put the series on the map but for good reason; it takes the great foundation of 3 and 4 and makes everything better and is one of the best games ever made. While I love P3 and 4, P5 is my favorite by just a little bit because the dungeons are so much better than 3 or 4. In P3 and P4 I was always in a hurry to get through the dungeons to get to the main bosses and back to the story but P5 balances gameplay and story much better. If P4 had dungeons on the level of P5 it would probably be my favorite but as it sits I'd go with 5. I agreed with most of your points about each game and would rank them exactly the same.
Ive been playing reload, probably why this video was recommended but i just love the MC from p3 so much i love the movies as well idk maybe because the theme is darker imo its just my favorite storyline wise.
Persona 5 social links (confidants) is like friends with benefits so I don't really like it. Persona 4 social links is best cause it's just natural and like in real world just created by coincidence.
For Persona 3, it's weird since you can't have social links with some of your SEES teams,

Before I go any further in this video I'm gonna put a list of my own. Quick warning though the top four are constantly alternating and are god tier games in my eyes. This is just how I rank them now. From worst to best...

Even as I'm finishing this comment, I'm questioning the top four. That says a lot when a series is so good there are only two games that are distinctly worse than the others and the rest can really be placed anywhere

I prefer 4 just a little but I think 3 is just as good and better in some aspects.
The gameplay is very underrated, with amazing mechanics absent from P4 like the weapon fusion, fusion spells and splitting the party up.
The story is great and full of great twists and turns, the pacing is pretty meh sometimes but the endgame is absolutely fantastic. If there's something that was pretty disappointing in 4 but nearly perfect in 3 was the final boss battle and overall ending.
Now it's not to say it is without it's faults, such as the problematic pacing in the mid-game, inconsistent difficulty (Tartarus bosses and the Reaper can be pretty tough, but most story bosses are braindead easy), and the antagonists besides the final boss. Some of the social links are really weird (Magician, Hermit) and others have poor writing (Moon, Fortune). The dating system is also really annoying with the girls' relationships becoming intimate at around rank 5. And even though it's optional, you can revive a certain character that will sooner die in the story which cheapens their sacrifice and ruins the game's main theme (thankfully it's not only optional but also extremely easy to miss).

Persona 3s story? Is in my opinion more better then the The mystery of persona 4 and how the true evil is the first guy you meet who’s a literal nobody and is a ee💀 but I mean again persona 4 has better gameplay and is smother with summons and stuff like that. P3 has A better aesthetic a better overrall story and stronger concepts> P4 has better/easier gameplay smoother interactions and better Ai. Still very close

I played persona 4 golden beat it like 3 times. Over 400 hours and persona 5 I just beat it once then I’m going to go to person 3 I just downloaded it on Xbox day one

P2 is also good, it was my first entry into the Persona game. Now that I think of it, it was my first RPG that actually took place in a modern world rather than the future or some fantasy land, lol.

Suikoden 2 is still my favourite of all time and overall one of the best JRPGs of all time, and now Because its outdated Final Fantasy 15 and 16 are better?

I LIKE PERSONA 1 and 2. A lot of people don’t for the reason I stated and I understand with that. A lot of people would see the difference when playing both games after the mainline trilogy
I always thought P3 had the best setting, mood and story, P4 had the best characters and P5 the best graphics and gameplay.
All I ever wanted was a Persona game that combines the three best aspects into one game.

P3P is the best imo, I put over 400 hours in the game and I kept coming back . P5 and P4 come next in that order. That being said P5 had a lot of time so it makes sense to have that much depth however having to navigate two separate dungeons simultaneously while also trying to live the best Persona life is a little stressful lol.

Maybe nostalgia, I guess? It was my first Persona game, the story was really good and I actually enjoyed the double characters thing. I also liked the confidants more and the character designs were my favourite. A lot of it comes from personal bias I think but I enjoyed it.

I’ve played the series in release order and Persona 1 really hasn’t aged badly at all in my opinion, it literally just doesn’t have the “1 MORE” system (same with P2) and none of the first 3 Persona games are hard at all, in fact they’re so easy it can become boring, that’s really the only issue with the original trilogy. One more thing and this is to touch on P1’s story, P1 has an incredibly deep story and Maki is legitimately one of the most real and relatable characters in this series, P1 just doesn’t throw its story in your face, you have to be able to read the symbolism. P1 is still the only game that truly touches the meaning of “Persona” imo but I’m not gonna sit here and write an entire essay, I HIGHLY recommend playing P1 (and P2 of course) since it’s a surprisingly amazing game.
P1 is definitely a lot harder if you don't grind, the Pandora fight is 1 hour of pure bullshit.

Not gonna like but this video more than a ranking looks like a small reminder of when the game came out at the time with the only difference that innocent sin and eternal punishment are in reversed position. My personal Persona rank list is: 6th Revelations: Persona, 5th Persona 2 Eternal Punishment, 4th Persona 2 Innocent Sin, 3rd Persona 4 Golden, 2nd Persona 5 Royal and 1st Persona 3 FES

@@Dontclickmychannellll then you need to replay it. It hands-down has easily the best characters in the entire franchise. Persona five’s characters were extremely one dimensional and most of their character development went nowhere. Also, in persona five, your character has basically no interactions with the school which is a huge part of the persona franchise. It’s not simply just about fighting Demons. It’s also about your school interactions the day today getting your homework done getting a part-time job.
I think so many people get so used to trying to be the hipster and put the unpopular option as their #1 on lists that they actually become what they're trying not to do. I'm glad you put Persona 5 at #1. Persona 5 Royal was my first experience with Persona and then I went back and tried to play Persona 3 and didn't get far because there's no comparison. From the characters, to the graphics, to the gameplay, to the story, no other game in the series touches Persona 5. I'm so glad we got Persona 5 Strikers as the swan song of the Phantom Thieves.
What makes you sure they're trying putting the unpopular opinion for the sake of doing so? There is many reasons to choose another game in the series over persona 5. Besides that though, you barely played persona 3, and since you didn't mention the other games im assuming you didn't even touch them. You can't say these games are worse than 5 when you haven't even played them yourself. You have nothing to base yourself on besides your bias.
Agreed, P5R is unquestionably the best game in the entire mainline series. Closely followed by P2 innocent sin.

Mine is the complete opposite. 4 and 5 are mechanically better, but felt too much like a rehash of three with weaker stories and reused characters. With every entry since 3 it seems more like I'm playing a Scooby-Doo anime game instead of a Megaten/Persona game.

Nice list, but I going to have to disagree with your order. Revelations Persons is my number one, but I know that is an unpopular opinion. The first Persona is the most megaten of the bunch and most closely follows the physcology theme this series was created to convey.
For me my love for the series goes in order of release. 1 and 2 are equaly as meh then 3 witch might be good but dosnt feel as good as the laters games 4 witch i love but the dungeons was a little boring and then 5 and i dont need to explain why

P3 portable fixes most of his issues with the game
1, persona 3 fes (my first and favourite persona)
2, persona 4 (a bit ligher tone than p3 has but still one of the best persona)
3, persona 2 duology (the best story and tone among all persona game)
4, persona 5 (it has real life darkness not that dark fantasy darkness, which why it's this low, also a lot of dungeons were insignificant to me, after madarame they weren't that meaningful to me, then it picked up again with shido but that mouse transformation segment bruhh, but it has the best music and combat among every persona, but can't hold a candle against p2 dualogy's story, just because p5 has better presentation it doesn't mean it has better story)
5, persona 1 (hideous encounter rate but one of the most interesting story in the franchise also has 2 main quest the sebec route and the snow queen route which you didn't mention because you haven't played through the game, which i can understand but you didn't even do research)
I don't get why people think persona 3 is good. P4 is the best game and even though Golden was a unneeded enhancement it's still good.

Can't speak for everyone but at least for me, I value story and characters more than anything in Persona. Unfortunately for P4, I just didn't think Persona 4 had a great cast. To me, only Kanji, Rise and Naoto compared to anyone from Persona 3 and 5, though the 2 duology has my favorite cast if you REALLY made me pick. The story is good but very much flawed. People like to claim nothing happens for most of P3's story but that's really not true. In P4 though, we learn little to nothing about the killer until Naoto joins. To me a good mystery should allow the player/viewer to discover the answer on their own with the character and I think Persona 4 fails at that. The constant social events like the band and beach scenes also bugs me as I can't get the fact that there is a killer on the loose out of my head and we're dicking around instead of searching for leads. There story is still great and I think Persona 4 is a masterpiece but I just couldn't ignore these issues

The only good thing about persona 1 that is forsure good is the music, both the ps1 and psp version, though the ps1 version is better in my opinion. Both P2 games are my favorite in the series for its story, and both soundtrack are really good too. Was never a fan of 3 mainly due to the combat gameplay(unless it’s psp but that has its problems as well). Can’t hate persona 4 it’s overall enjoyable, the story can get on my nerves after playing through it a couple of times but for the time, solid game with a good story. And I just started P5, so no real opinions but I’m enjoying what i am playing through

To be honest, not that many SMT games came out before Persona 3.
Practically the only game in PS1 era aside Persona was Revalations: The Demon Slayer, which practically remembers.
Most PS2 games came out around the 2006. So it's not like SMT couldn't grab attention but more that P3 outshined every other game

I didn't realize Haru was so loved everytime I use her in combat she's useless so I never really pay attention to her. She's my least favorite character in all of the Persona games.

Your complaints about persona 3 about the randomized dungeons that has always been an RPGs a lot of them have been in other RPGs and people have not complain about it is games out there that you don't control the rest of your party members nobody has issues with it and my gripe with persona 5 is the first act is really good with the teacher after that it becomes boring
I've never seen a list i've disagreed with more in my life. Eternal punishment under Innocent Sin? Did we not play the same game? Innocent sin's combat is the most awful combat i've ever played in a JRPG a literal child could beat the entire game with their eyes closed it's way TOO easy. You can literally beat the game with nothing but the starter persona, not just that but Persona 5 as the best game in the series?? Persona 5's story is literally garbage unless you play Royal, Akechi before Royal was a garbage character, Shido was a boring villain, in fact most of the villains other than Kamoshida were all garbage. The only thing good about p5 is the combat, the writing is extremely flawed and the villains were all badly written as well.
Persona 3 vanilla is the worst in the series, just fucking awful game.
