Brother, as a fellow outdoorsman who just bought my first house, buy a TRACTOR. Don’t waste time with a zero turn! Even a small compact tractor with hydraulics is light years better for what you’ll want for the pond, woods, etc. Not to mention, Ben will be grateful you raised him knowing how to use a loader valve and backhoe… I’m sure glad my Dad did. I went orange (LX now) but check out the Kubota BX line or similar, that’s what Dad had growing up. Cheers brother, been following since long before Emmy… so cool to watch your dreams grow, and grow ours alongside you! Thanks for sharing as always. 🤙
Our neighborhood pond was dirty and muddy looking and we installed a large fountain to airiate the stagnate water. It worked and now we have beautiful blue clear water. 😎 good luck 🍀
Brother never in my whole life have I heard another soul eat lucky charms like I do. That’s how I treat life as well. Embrace the suck, and enjoy the spoils at the end. My one criteria was if the marshmallow got stuck on the bottom of the spoon I would eat that as a little mid-suck treat. Also at the beginning when I poured the milk in, whatever marshmallow didn’t touch milk I hand picked out and ate first. Wasn’t expecting to hear this today. Cheers bro
Love your guitar its gorgeous! Best wishes on the pond cant wait to see the pond clear up and the set up for your chickens. God bless you and your sweet family.
We bought a place outside of Houston that had a 1 acre pond that would not clear up no matter what we tried. It was a mud hole. The only remaining cause had to be invasive fish constantly stirring up the bottom. We killed the whole pond off with Rotenone. You wouldn’t believe the big carp, buffalo and bullhead catfish that floated up. We lost a few desirable bass but not many. The pond started clearing up almost immediately. After 45 days, we restocked with fathead minnows, bluegills and largemouth bass. The pond looks great and the fish are flourishing.
I'm pretty sure you won't read this comment but oh well First of all, in your test you were missing a control bottle and I know that they are going to say that the pond is your control, but listen to me. Having a control bottle allows you to rule out things that can alter the process that the gypsum is trying to do, such as weather or animals. Cheer up and keep producing quality content
Chickens need more protein in the winter to keep warm and still have enough fuel in the tank for cranking out cackleberries. Try giving them some game bird crumble, chick starter, or a grower ration and supplement their calcium intake with oyster shell. Also, a lot of chicken breeds are photosensitive. They need a certain amount of light per day, something like 14 hours, in order to produce eggs. You can put a light in their coop and set it to come on at the beginning and end of the day to give them the light needed to do their thing.
Ultra-fine gypsum from USA GYPSUM works fast. You also need to reduce the amount of run off from the woods it’s probably the biggest cause of your soil particles in the pond
Hey LFG, that's funny, I wondered how you had such nice glass jars at the read, shhhh! Dang , I hope and pray some miracle happens with your Pond 🤗. JO JO IN VT 💞
Bales of barley straw can help as muddy water caused by suspended clay particles can sometimes be corrected by spreading broken bales of high quality hay or barley straw in the water around the shoreline. Acids formed during plant decay can cause clay particles to settle. Approximately two bales of hay per surface acre could clear the water.
so i hadnt seen this video yet, but i left a rather large comment on the newest googan vid. one thing you can do to help clean it up is add more substrate to the bottom, i mentioned sand and pea gravel, just make sure its well rinsed, plus adding both will give bedding habitat for fish in it. that will give the particles something to kinda stick to when they do settle. the other thing that would greatly help your pond is water volume, if you adjust your float, even adding 2 or 3 inches up the bank, is going to increase the overall water level a tremendous amount, other than that, the next step would really be a massive make over of the entire pond, and if you are wanting trophy bass in there, then you would want to add to it anyway. in the vid with 1rod all of the fish looked rather stunted and small so more water might be needed. one other thing, since your ponds level is controlled by a well, make sure you have a stone, get a slab of granite or slate or something, so the water isn't churning up more clay into the water as it flows in
Green aquatic plant at beginning of the video is parrot feather. Itll take over the pond if not kept in check. Diquat + Glyphosate will take care of it.
Had pretty much the same issue in our 1 acre pond. Spent a bunch of money on aeration and it actually made it worse. Aeration is important once you get the clarity fixed but it’s not going to help in your current situation. We used alum mixed with water in big totes and spread across pond with an irrigation sprinkler on a tripod. Usually need lime to keep Ph balanced when using the alum. Pond cleared up in about 3 days. Highly recommend alum and eventually aeration and vegetation.
The black color change is due to the type of gypsum used. Apply solution grade (white) gypsum. I’m located in east Texas and use diamond k premium 97 solution grade gypsum. Order from feed store and they usually have it ready in a couple days.
Drain it , the time is now before spring rains. Then either clean the sediment or add a pea gravel or sand base. In small ponds youd be shocked how well it works. Plus you can then add minnows and gills. Once they are established you can add 5 female bass and grow them to state record size without worrying if they spawn and over populate
Definitely get a zero turn they are so fun to drive! Also, when we had a zero turn mower, it was significantly faster at cutting the grass than our tractor was just an FYI it just mowed and moved faster than the standard tractor would. 😂
I have dutch friends here in ontario canada..their field ponds are stocked with rainbow and smb lmb..they put Windmills(small) onshore..wind driven air through for 2.5 inch plastic pipe to the bottom center of the pond..awesome..
Smith creek fish farm small pond aerator step 1. 2. Some riprap on those banks would help and be the most economical. 3. Beneficial bacteria block or pond clear from Smith Creek. You have some good vegetation growing in that one corner, so focus on creating a big area there with water lillie's, cattails, creeping Jenny etc. Clover is a great cover but can be a nuisance. Once you get some aeration and beneficial bacteria in there you will be good!
Have you ever thought about a bio-filter. It’s all natural with the water recycled from pond through the filter back to pond. I have a small scaled one and it is unreal how well it cleans the water. Just a thought.
A person from petco told us of feeding high protein cat food to our chickens in winter due to them needing more protein to help with laying eggs! He said he feeds his chickens a mixture of high protein cat food and chicken food! We have tried it, this seems to do the trick! You might want to give it a try.
Always save the marshmallows for last!!!! BTW sir… Atwoods, competitor of TSC , carries 2 lb bags of Luck Charms marshmallows! No cardboard bits! Dangerous fun to be had for sure! You’re welcome!
I've installed and cleaned ponds for several years in California. I also make mead. I use the same product in both. Bentonite clay. It is dirt cheap. It is used as a clearing agent in both making wine and meads, as well as a clearing agent in pond maintenance and manufacture. It works. Well. It is non-toxic, natural, and very efficient. You can even use clay cat litter, as long as it has no additives in it. It is bentonite. You can use finer powdered bentonite as an impromptu liner for your pond, in case you have a bottom that is comprised of mud, and little else. The clay will form a nice seal along the entire bottom as it slowly settles, and will help to keep any more mud or particulates from appearing. Do a layer of fine, then larger aggregate bentonite clay, then watch the magic happen. It works, always. If it is algae, a combination of bentonite, barley straw, and a product called cutrine works, and is safe for fish. Or a UV clarifier filter. The only thing with those is that it can kill good bacteria as well. If you use a UV filter, you will have to periodically add beneficial bacteria to your water on a regular basis, so as to keep a healthy ecosystem up. You can utilize copper as well, such as copper sulfates. However, copper can have some negative effects on some of your fish, as it can be a bit harsh on their slime coats, and can make them prone to skin damage, as well as other health problems. I usually stay away from copper ionizer unless I have no other choice for that reason. It works, but it is risky for fish. You can also color the water as well, which will help to reduce the algae blooms by making less light available for their growth cycle. Use tannins such as dye woods, dried brown leaves, or even actual tea leaves! As in, black tea! It is safe, and it works. If you do use tannins, you can add some calcium carbonate to the water to adjust the pH back towards neutral, by adding some calcified bones or my favorite, dried coral! It is dirt cheap, and a little goes a long way!
The only things I've ever added to my pond is ag lime and gypsum. Then lily pads that keep it clear and oxygenate the water. My pond is a clear light tea color.
I would recommend against using alum in your pond if you ever plan to eat the fish. Aluminum has, at least tentatively, been linked to maladies in the nervous system. Of course it depends on which "research" you believe but I recommend against taking an avoidable risk for aesthetic reasons.
Justin your videos are awesome please never stop ! The debt burden will be over soon keep your head up and grind ! I’ll pray it all will be over soon keep
We used copper sulfate in the fall, and by spring. You’ll have a nice clear pond with new growth but if you have it stocked, it’s gonna kill all the fish.
Drain it make it bigger and deeper then line it with red clay and a liner just around the eades with gravel then out a dock and peagravel under and around the dock so the gills have a place to spawn and a lot of fish structure lol
You can take a sawhorse and set it down in the pond and just use one of those old-school clamp-on trolling motors just run the cords over to the bank clip it to a battery and let it run in a along the bank so that it basically creates a whirlpool in the pond it'll help push all your sediment to the center you can then get a trash pump and use a long wooden dowel with the trash pump head on it and throw it in the center of the pond it'll pump out most of the loose sediment
Drain that pond and install a pool. OSG and kids will love it and the water will be clear. In a few years the kid's friends will gather at your house for a pool day and cook out after. Been there with 3 myself.
@LFG That stuff was not good to put in the pond. Too much additives in the mix and sulfur is toxic. You need to be patient and do the research to get the proper stuff. Hopefully you don't have a fish kill with the sulfur...you probably will sadly. At this point you should not worry about the pond right now and get everything else done. The pond will be lots of work and you will need to invest a bit of funds into it. Best advice is to empty it out first. Let it dry up as much as possible. Than dig a small hole to see the depth of the clay bottom. If the clay is not too deep than you may want to get rid of it and dig it all out. After that you have 2 options: 1. Use red clay, it settles better or 2. Get yourself a pond liner. I suggest the red clay.
Sorry, but my main takeaway from your very well thought out video is your method of Lucky Charm consumption...the only way it would have been better would be to know that you too, also separated those charms by type! LOL! Hope the pond clears! Charm on.
Get your pond water tested! So you know what is in it! There are companies that can pump grout under a slab to level it. Then grind the top down and add a 2" layer of grout coat... wayyyy cheaper than digging the slab up and starting over
I would have gone with plants first. Submerged Plants: Hornwort (Ceratophyllum demersum): Helps oxygenate the water and trap fine particles. Eelgrass (Vallisneria): Reduces suspended particles and improves water clarity. Waterweed (Elodea): Absorbs excess nutrients that cause cloudiness. Emergent Plants (to stabilize the edges and filter runoff): Cattails (Typha spp.): Excellent for filtering sediments.
If the bottom is primarily mud then it'll never clear up completely. I'd figure out where water drains into the pond after it rains. Is muddy water draining into a mud bottom pond? Dig it out is the best option, period.
Man the cheapest fix is go to tractor supply and get some pond dye .it will turn it into a nice pond for you and want hurt the fish. But the main reason is the dirt, and it’s p not deep enough.
Your chickens are not laying bc of the amount of light in a day. You can help that by adding artificial lighting lamp in you coup. Add a few hrs of light each day.
You are way smarter about this stuff then I will ever be but looking at your first jar which seems to be your best result is you still have something else that's the problem and maybe the clay is a symptom. Isn't there some where that you can send or take a sample to to get more of what is the root cause of the problem ? Again just a thought from someone trying to give idea's.
I'm sure someone has told you this and I know your cash strapped. Wouldn't be able to do it right now, but you need to have the pond edges graded, and stone put on including into the pond a few feet. The stone will filter the water going into your pond and help greatly with the cloudiness. I'm sure there is a Pond Supply around you that can help you with the ratio for the grading of the edges Etc
So Justin you are saying it is working on the pond to clear it up but how do you get rid of the staining color that you say is coming from the product that you are using to help clear it up??? I guess I’m kinda lost I guess??? What is the point if it is going to stain the water to a brown or black color??? That tells me that it really isn’t working or I’m totally lost on the whole situation?? Lol!!

To clear up the water in pond a wetlands filter that aquascape specialize in would really clean up the pond
Add a little waterfall.. put in a filter.. put some air stones.. Best thing would be to start by making the pond 10 times bigger..
I'm pretty sure you won't read this comment but oh well

When u started the song the clouds parted light from above came down in beems. I even heard harps fishing is not your only talent my friend

Well I for one would stay up late to hear you al singing and playin.😊😊
Great content sir! Would love more pond building content
lol that song though... me and my girls love your channel they say hi and they are in love with your families new home......

Get a small trolling motor and run it in the pond for a few hours a day. Will help with aeration clear out some of that cloudiness.

You could get ahold of the pond guys and ask them to help. He built a massive mini lake and he's really great at what he does.
You need some type of filter and a lot of aeration for that pond. ie. a bog type filter would work great.
Love this man 😂😂❤❤❤❤ this song tho

Omg you should just drain the pond and expanded would be amazing to see 🎉🎉🎉
You have a mud hole. You have to get the water moving to create some filtration.
Need to hit up Bamabass!! I been following his pond journey.
Always save the marshmallows for last!!!! BTW sir… Atwoods, competitor of TSC , carries 2 lb bags of Luck Charms marshmallows! No cardboard bits!

underrated
Might try adding a few buckets of live freshwater mussels, they'll filter the water and feed the catfish.

Do you have an active spring under the pond?
A TH-camr named Stoney Ridge Farmer has some videos on his portable chicken coop setup built of PVC.Those videos might help you out some
Came to hit like for the song👍
best bet would be to put in a filter. check out what trapper day did with flairs pond and his diy filter pump
The only things I've ever added to my pond is ag lime and gypsum. Then lily pads that keep it clear and oxygenate the water. My pond is a clear light tea color.
Reach out to youtuber Trapper J (flair's friend). He builds pond filters out of plastic totes filled with sand. Seem to work well.
Second this. Need a sand and gravel filter and Trapper J builds nice homemade ones.
I was also gonna suggest Trapper J, Andrew Flair's buddy. He shows how to build pond filters diy on his channel.
Like this idea
Build it yourself. His exact setup is all over TH-cam. Very easy build
I would recommend against using alum in your pond if you ever plan to eat the fish. Aluminum has, at least tentatively, been linked to maladies in the nervous system. Of course it depends on which "research" you believe but I recommend against taking an avoidable risk for aesthetic reasons.
Hey, did you go to A&M when Manziel was there? Would love to hear more college stories!
The pond Guys can totally build you a wetland filter to clear that up.
@lakeforguy somehow Natural History of Invertebrates was not my hardest class ever. Love catching some Micropterus salmoides
Justin your videos are awesome please never stop ! The debt burden will be over soon keep your head up and grind ! I’ll pray it all will be over soon keep
GET A HIGH VOLUME WATER PUMP AND CURCULATE THE WATER THROUGH A SERIES OF BIO FILTERS AND THE POND WILL CLEAR UP !!!!!!
Where's the aeration ?? You should probably get a solar aerator or wind powered . Just a thought ....
407 bbq is the bomb
Do a collab with The Pond Guys or Bama Bass. I think you should about double the size of that pond at least!
get an industrial fish tank filter
Airmax pond products on amazon. Safe on fish & worked wonders on my pond
Just trying to give some advice, I’m a huge fan but just get a good filtration system for it and it’ll clear it up perfectly
You can get alum in the spice isle from McCormick
35,000 bottles
Ask your boy Jiggin with Jordan! He's cleaned up a big pond over at Sam's. Didn't kill any fish that I know of.
Have you tried Chitosan?
How big is the new property?
Gypsum is commonly used in drywall. Mined hundreds of feet below the surface
Like a pool vacuum
The famous crappie guitar....from the Grainger Smith video.
Is it overstocked with bullheads?
Stoney ridge farmer or Joel salatin are good resources for chicken tractors.
some of the pelletized gypsum uses lignosulfates as a binding agent. It'll turn the water brown. You want to use granulated gypsum not pellets...
Drain that pond and install a pool. OSG and kids will love it and the water will be clear. In a few years the kid's friends will gather at your house for a pool day and cook out after. Been there with 3 myself.
Drain ot and start over
I really think that dead fish got away from the herring 😂😂😂
@LFG That stuff was not good to put in the pond. Too much additives in the mix and sulfur is toxic. You need to be patient and do the research to get the proper stuff. Hopefully you don't have a fish kill with the sulfur...you probably will sadly.

Zebra mussels.....get them at a great lakes or fresh water rivers in most places.
You should get with granger smith and make that song happen and have it as your intro song to your videos
One pump at through some clean rocks make a natural filter
Micropterus nigricans 👍🏼👊🏼
Nice singing voice
If the bottom is primarily mud then it'll never clear up completely. I'd figure out where water drains into the pond after it rains. Is muddy water draining into a mud bottom pond? Dig it out is the best option, period.
Put albino channel cats in the pond they are so fun for kids
Just need a good rain to add fresh water back to it to dilute it some it’ll happen
A good rain will cause run off . And make the pond more muddy

Again just a thought from someone trying to give idea's.
Let’s get a band vid lol
I would not return the bottles to OSG...they must have been lost in the move.
I think the Pond should be named the Ranchtry (like Pantry)
I'm sure someone has told you this and I know your cash strapped. Wouldn't be able to do it right now, but you need to have the pond edges graded, and stone put on including into the pond a few feet. The stone will filter the water going into your pond and help greatly with the cloudiness. I'm sure there is a Pond Supply around you that can help you with the ratio for the grading of the edges Etc
There is a part of the research called the "control". 😂😂😂😂😂
You need to put more water in the pond and a filter or fountain.
I wonder if you should leave the lids off since the pond doesn’t have a lid. Maybe more oxygen helps
Lol!!
alum what you need maybe some barley straw
