    I'm a beginner and I have to choose between Yamaha YDP 164 or CLP 625. I'm choosing between these 2 because of the synthetic ivory and both are less than 1k in price. So, YDP is the most expensive in the YDP series for beginners, CLP is the entry level of the Clavinova which is made for more than just beginners. So, what to choose?
    Thanks =)

    Nice review , 635 is clear winner. Not sure if there is any update for this model in 2021.

      in piano 635 the sound is binaural, and in 625 the binaural sound is turned off and the usual sound is recorded ..

    I would buy a YDP 164 instead of CLP 625. It's cheaper and supports the Smart Pianist app. this Bosendorfer and Escapement stuff are not appealing enough to get the 625. 635 is great tho. It's even better value than 645 imo. That wood doesn't change anything, instead of more maintenance cost if you ever get in trouble.

    Since the CLP 635 and CLP 545 are almost the same price which one would you recommend ? Is the Pianoroom feature as well as VRM on the 635 good enough to outclass the speakers on the CLP 545 ?

    • @JosefFoti
      @JosefFoti 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had the same question in a local shop today and I was told that one important thing to realize is that the sampling technology itself got better between generations so I was recommended the CLP-635 which I ordered and it should arrive by the end of the week.

    Debating between the CLP 635, Kawai CN 37, and the Roland HP 603. All basically the same price here in the US but no stores here sell all 3. Anyone have experience with those?

    • @goldenshowercap9395

      CN37. Bought a CN35 just under a year ago, had recurring problems with keys clicking. Two repairs, then replaced with the 37. Same problem again; now looking for an upgrade to a model with different action, or a different manufacturer. Terrific instrument if you get a good one, but I'm losing faith in the brand tbh.

    • @goldenshowercap9395
      @goldenshowercap9395 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Update: Very disppointed with Kawai. They have said that clicking keys is 'normal' and refused to deal with it as a warranty issue. Went back to the shop who offered a full refund, we're now paying quite a bit extra to upgrade to the Yamaha CLP-645.
      At the time of original purchase the CN35 sounded as good as other brand models costing a good few hundred pounds more - but being newcomers we didn't know the name and were wary but we listened, used our judgement and accepted the salesman's advice. As I said, terrific instrument if you get a good one but Kawai have long-standing quality control problems dating back as long as 7 years, and their service and attitude has been sorely lacking. Now that we're getting rid of our CN37 - which we've only had 3 or 4 months - we wouldn't go back to Kawai.

      this is strange..
      I have a CN37 with no clicking keys at all. And never heard someone talk about that. I didnt buy a CLP645 because the black keys "click"!! on all CLP645's!!
      black keys on the 645 feel so cheap and its much better on the 635.. its crazy. Its a shame because the overall key action on the 645 is better for sure!! its just that annoying clicking

    • @goldenshowercap9395
      @goldenshowercap9395 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sod's law! Glad your 37 gives you no trouble. I went for CLP645 but it's not just the black keys that click! All of them do albeit more quietly than the Kawai. Had enough, going for an acoustic now!

    • @JoeKaye-hn5dt
      @JoeKaye-hn5dt 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      This clicking keys business...please tell me, is this related to that "escapement" feature? I've played only acoustic piano in the past. Key action/response is smooth and infinitely unobstructed in an acoustic of course; but I'm not in a position for an acoustic piano at this time. I'm wondering whether or not to even bother with digital.

    How the different between clp 500 series and 600 series? Because look like same function.

    • @LGBender
      @LGBender 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      600 is the newer series. There are a few (small) differences, it's probably the easiest to compare the functions of the model you're interested in directly on the Yamaha website. They still list both series.

      remember to be realistic - you will need to put in a bit of work whatever method you decide on for learning piano I've been researching into different systems and discovered a great resource at Denelle Piano Lesson (google it if you are interested)

      In CLP 500 series the VRM technology was only in CLP 575 and CLP 585..
      But In CLP 600 series the VRM technology is in CLP 635 and all above models.. Which is the main difference..
      VRM technology makes such a big difference..

      you probably found that out already, but you can most likely just use an aux cable from the headphone jack to the mic input on the soundcard of your pc.

    Do CLP-6XX series have any kind of mini grands?

    • @JosefFoti
      @JosefFoti 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you mean if they have a model that looks like a grand, then yes, they have the CLP-665GP model.

    • @briansun6336
      @briansun6336 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes, I am looking for that.
      The CLP-665 GP is going to have bigger speakers and a soundboard-like board on the speakers, so it might sound more realistic.

    • @JosefFoti
      @JosefFoti 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It has two 16 cm speakers and two 5 cm speakers so it's not such a big difference compared to CLP-635. However, I don't know how the cabinet resonates, I haven't seen the grand looking piano in stores here in the Czech Republic and I guess they don't get sold very often because people here don't usually have all that much money.
