    I'm upgrading and customizing my Heng Long Tiger 1 early, but I'm thinking of getting an Andy's HHQ Tiger 1 early and swapping out parts to make the HL Tiger a real stunner. Do you know if I do that will it work? Will the parts from the static kit fit onto the HL adequately enough?

      To mid upgrade the tank watch the Otto carious build, the parts and work that went into that conversion are all talked about in detail

    Turret position on the Heng Long is too far forward very obviously. Moving the turret back to the proper position is key to getting the correct "look" of the Tiger I. It looks like other manufacturers may have made the same mistake.

    Outstanding review. I have a couple of Taigens I picked up on sale. They are an OK value for what I paid, but my next tank will be from Mato.

    The markings are of 502 s. Pz abt. Are those markings of an actual tiger with the 502? Or generic and fictitious?

    Hi John, quick question, how interchangeable are internal and external parts for heng long tanks with the mato tanks?
    Cheers

    • @oddball759mm
      @oddball759mm  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      very. Almost all the external fittings on all these RTR models are interchangeable with each other. Same is mostly true for the electronics too. Where you see differences are with the running gear parts, namely the swing arms.

    People say taigen is better could you tell me how im considering buying one of these

    • @oddball759mm
      @oddball759mm  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the taigen is better. The Mato is a metal cast copy of the HL, which means you get all the same inaccuracies of the HL only in metal which makes them harder to remove / correct. The Mato suspension uses the HL style of swing plate and a spring, the Tiagen uses a swing arm and uses a torsion bar. The Tiagen tracks are better detailed and are more accurate, the Taigen turret is more to scale and has a better gun barrel. the taigen surface details are also better. The stock mato electronics on this old pattern one were useless. The only real reason why you would go for the mato over the taigen is if for no other reason you have to have the model in full metal, other than that the taigen is better of the models

    I heard mato tanks can ford in pools of water but not taigen tanks. Is it actually possible to waterproof a taigen?

    • @oddball759mm
      @oddball759mm  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mato tanks are not waterproof, both have exposed electronics and it's not advised to get either wet. There is a video on youtube that is a POV of some guy who drives his stock taigen underwater and it worked, but it's something that I would avoid as I don;t know how much damage this will do after prolonged use

    • @PieAndChips
      @PieAndChips 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can make them water resistant
      Areas to look out for are the suspension mountings, corners of the chassis where there is a gap in the aluminium, rear armour and the final drives.
      If you form a bow wave when entering water and never ford deeper than you have prepared for you should be okay.
      I drove my Walker Bulldog through water up to the return rollers and it was fine.
      I would recommend dipping the board in plastidip and adding petroleum jelly to the switches if you plan on doing any hardcore off roading

    Is the 1/16 Taigen tiger a better representation of the tiger, or the 1/16 Mato tiger? Btw, im talking about completly

    • @oddball759mm
      @oddball759mm  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      much better yes. I don't want to give away what's to be described in the second and third part of this series, but in a nutshell the electronics on this example were terrible and everything needed to be replaced. The details are also on the low end and many mods were made.
      The Taigen is a better model in just about every way, and IMO are only bested by the Tamiya one. These mato models are only good if you are looking for an all metal model that is a project build.
