Battle of Haldighati 1576 - Mughal-Rajput War DOCUMENTARY

  • Previously we covered the first two battles of Panipat during which the Mughal Empire and its emperors Babur and Akbar fought against the Lodhi dynasty of the Delhi Sultanate and Hemu of the Sur Empire. Although these victories were decisive in their nature, the Mughals continued facing new enemies, as their incursion into the central and western India was met with the resistance of the local Rajput states. The prolonged conflict led to one of the most iconic engagements in the Indian history - the battle of Haldighati of 1576 between Akbur's general Man Singh and the Maharana (King) of Mewar Pratap.

@Ashish Rajput There is no doubt that Maharana fought against the mighty Mughals but he is celebrated only because he is considered a symbol of resistance of hindus against so called muslim Mughal, the narrative is set in this way to suit the current political scenario. Suppose if he were a native Muslim ruler resisting against Mughals then that would not be the case of symbolising him as a icon of resistance against the Mughals in the bigoted way, you see it only as a native hindu vs foreign muslim view, when in reality you are just toeing the line of popular political narrative without even realizing it.

Konark Uppal India wasn’t a whole nation as it is now. Mughals only ruled northern parts of present day India. Many real indian victors were rajputs, Sikh Khalsa army, and Tamil warriors. India was all divided into small regional powers by different clans and tribes. The only real dominant power was British who ruled all of India.

EGGO KB yes I agree that the invaders were not able to crush the Indian civilisation. The credit goes to Sikhs, Marathas under Shivaji, Southern Kingdoms like Vijaynagar, Tamils etc. Rajputs as publicised were not great as a community. Most of them became vassals of dominant political power. If we go by community standards Jats & Sikhs for example have shown larger bravery than Rajputs. However that does not mean that Rajputs have not done anything. Maharana Pratap, Prithviraj Chauhan etc are the biggest heroes of the Hindu community, similarly Jaichand & Man Singh, also Rajputs are the biggest cowards.

Rishav Roy : what safe? Had Maharana Pratap though about safety, he would have not fought the Mughals. Mr. Roy they were warriors for a reason. If a warrior does not fight for his country, his religion- he is considered as a coward. I repeat, most of these were Cowards. Of course there are exceptions. But the cons are more than Pros.

Rana Punja and his bhil tribes were the archers from Pratap side as they considered Pratap as their son, their own...They used to call him Kika which means son...till date you can see the Mewar Estate seal that has Rajput noble on one side and Bhil tribal noble on other that shows their unity from ages.Pratap is a legend not only in Udaipur (mewar area) but in entire India because of his larger than life character and his qualities to respect everyone and consider equal.
Also no one won the Haldighati war as per the historians and there are multiple reasons behind their fact..
1.If Mughals won the war how was it possible to continue mewar currency that still had Pratap's image on it, for decades...
      2. Why theres not even a single building, statue, mazar, place or road in entire Mewar area with Mughal name?..
      3. Why the entire area was still dominated by Rajput warriors (especially Sisodia clan) for centuries after Haldighati war and Pratap was still the leader there and dominated the entire region, even build palaces there like Gogunda etc.?...
      4. Why Akbar banned Man Singh for entire 1yr from his court and told him that Haldighati is a slap on Mughal face...
      5. why there was freedom for Bhil tribes in Mewar for centuries when they supported Pratap's army during Haldighati war?...
      5. A British historian James Todd did his findings, his entire life in Rajasthan and provided the valuable information that Haldighati was just the initial clash between Rajputs and Mugals ,where nobody emerged as victorious.. the main war was Diver War which is also known as the marathon war and continued for 3days and Pratap emerged as victorious..hence Rajsamand district in Rajasthan also has his giant statue dedicated to his Diver victory.
History has been amended a lot to glorify Mughals whereas the fact was that they just managed northern India with other rulers and not the ultimate kingdom.. Maharan Pratap is a legend in india and you can find his sculptures in every city, you can find roads, airports, stadiums and railway stations on Prataps name that showed how great he was...Mewar is the only estate that remained free from centuries, hats off to the great Sisodia kings that never compromised their freedom and self respect.. right from Bappa Rawal to Rajsingh 🙏

The victors always influence how history is told, but without total victory and domination, a narrative can only last so long. Most of the people give this battle a religious angle but they don't that a muslim (hakim Khan sur pathan) was maharana's commander and maan singh was fighting on behalf of mughals! Respect the brave people don't make agenda out of them in elections

    Great Explanation!
Rajputs never surrendered . They struggled and fought valiantly .
Today also , most of the Rajput's forts , palaces and other ancient structures are present in state of Rajasthan (Rajputana) .
Mughals demolished most of the structures in North India , but can't gain a full control of Rajasthan. And it the no. 1 tourist place in India today . Everybody should visit the state once .
One interested in Mughal architecture should visit Delhi and Agra for sure .
And Southern India is the place where ancient temples and structures stand still today also .

It is very famous in India, as it signals the fall of the Hindu ruled kingdoms and advent of the Mughal empire, a change that shaped the future of India for hundreds of years until the Mughals became protectorates of another resurgent Hindu kingdom of the Marathas. I do not put too much emphasis on the religion bit but that is the best way to put it. As the battle depicts people of all faiths fought on all sides, the religious reference is mostly towards the Ruling class as Mughal territories were often 90% Hindu/non-muslim.

Rajputs r really brave when it came to warfare but just like "Sengoku jedai" period of Japan they were too divided to put up a solid resistance. Again they lacked modernization compared to the Mughals and this is evident by the fact that Mughals won more wars than that of the Rajputs. Its a fact .... Bravery can only take u so far. A well organised army is stronger than a brave army. This is one of the first chapter of tactics. This is also true in terms of diplomacy. "United we stand, divided we fall".

We will also have people who will claim that Prithviraj Chauhan killed Muhammad of Ghor with an arrow during an archery contest while being blind before he and Chand Bardai killed each other and finally, some people will claim that the First Battle of Tarain never happened and there was only one Battle at Tarain in 1192 which Muhammad of Ghor won...😅

@A K Akbar didn't fought at Battle of Panipat. No one lets a 14 year old prince and heir to fight. He sat at rear and watched the battle like any other monarch. Most of Akbar's conquest were carried out by his able generals like Bairam Khan and Adham Khan in his early years; Man Singh, Rahim and others and later on by his sons. His administration was also largely inspired by Sher Shah Suri who was a great administrator. Mansabdari system was designed by Bairam and Akbar's famous land revenue system was designed by Todarmal, an ex-employee of Suri. Akbar was lucky to get most talented men of contemporary time from musicians to warriors in his court. Many like Rahim, Birbal and Abul Fazl were genius both in military and administration.
Maharana fought to secure his sovereignty against an empire of monstrous strength. You can compare it to US-Vietnam war. He fought for his independence and that's why he is respected. He had choice to become vassal of Agra and retain his rule semi autonomously like other Rajput states, but he chose not to. I'm sure if Akbar had been in this situation, he would had no choice other than fleeing to Kabul or Persia like his father and to wait for favourable flow of wind which is not a bad idea.

I'm an Indian and I watch this channel to know about early and late medieval Indian warfare. The amount and quality of content is just mind blowing. I can't think of any other Indian channel doing the same. All the Indian channels on Indian history either lack depth or fail to evoke interest for the way they explain is primarily to force you memorize stuffs which is, by the way, how more or less Indian education system works. 2 minutes into those videos and you will lose interest in history, if not interest in humanity.

@@gokulpunnikrishnan4380 first of all most of the battles against the Mughals were won by the Rajputs (and I'm not making that up). Try to read a history book...
      Battle of Dewar 1606
      Battle of Dewair1582
      Second Mughal invasion of Marwar1679-1707
      Battle of udaipur 1680
      Battle of Aravali hills 1680
      Battle of Jodhpur 1707
      Rajput rebellion of 1708
      Battle of Kama 1708
Fun fact-I'm sure that you have no idea that out of the 300 years of Mughal rule, Jodhpur was subservient only for 98 years, rest all the time they were either resisting Mughal rule or were already a sovereign state. There are countless events of resistance by the Rajputs.
You used the word shameless...you are such an ignorant, ungrateful idiot...I have an advice for you...GO GET SOME EDUCATION...thanks.

@@karthikking6712 probably your ancestors were the ones who were slaves because Rajput kings were nobles and Generals actually...
I bet you have no idea why Rajput kings after 900 years of stiff resistance to foreign invaders (including Humayun and Babur) agreed to join Akbar...was there a hormonal change or what??
Try to search about it from a good source and you'll know. Why and if you really care, I can explain why.
