8:46 i’ve had Pitbulls and Staffy bull terriers practically all my life. I started with the American Staffordshire terrier that my son brought home that nobody wanted.
She was a brindle, and then my son’s girlfriend got a gray pitbull, and when they no longer could keep the dogs I adopted them. As the years went by I kept adopting the Pitbulls. I’ve had them for many years, and I’m always so sad when they die.
They made me so happy to have them part of the family. They were wonderful loving family dogs, so as I got older and I became unable to walk anymore, I bought a golf cart and my recent staffy bullterrier runs beside it as I drive. He is so happy and lovable, he wants me to do this every single day and I if the weather is good we will go. They are the best breed of dog I have ever wanted. My recent staffy’s name is Jax. ❤

When I was 8, I found 3 abandoned stafffy puppies in the alley. I took them home, and they all grew up to be beautiful and strong. We kept the boy and rehomed the two females to family. The Boy was named Chulo and he was an absolutely monster. He was so muscular and had stamina for days. He used to pull me on rollerblades for hours. He onced faught two loose dogs that ran at me when we were on one of our walks. He did not let them get close to me and absolutely destroyed the other two dogs. One was a Rottweiler and the other was some sort of Shepherd mix. He died at around 12 from health issues.

I"ve had what I thought where pitbulls for my companions for many years to now question whether they may have been staffordshire terriers or pitbulls? I guess it doesn't really matter since everyone that I've come in contact with has become the love of my life! They truly are fantastic family loving companions. I think my pup who is soon to be brought home is close to 70 lbs is probably more in the pitbull range. I came to this video to learn more about the differences between both breeds and actually got that information from an actual person and not a robot voice saying the obvious over and over.
It's also pleasant to hear someone talk about american bulls without just calling them killing machines and talking about the ACTUAL problem of bad owners.
Every dog is wonderful and different in its own way. And people need to learn how to accommodate their dog with training instead of just buying it and just staring at it all day.

  • @crustydownunder

I've breed pitbulls and staffies. I adored my Pitbulls, but they need way more attention. If you take them out in public, you must always be aware of what your dog is looking at. I never had a bad experience with the pitbulls, but that's because i was always on my guard. And I spent lots of time training them.
Staffies have become my favorite, by far. I have property, but I can leave them outside all day and they never go past the boundaries. We have hundreds of sheep, on the otherside of the fence, but they never bother with them. We have several horse on the other side, but again, the staffies aren't phased, and simply socialize with the horses. Going up to the fence to say hello. Staffies will eagerly play all day, or, just lay about in the sun, or the shade. They are great with my grandkids, and put up with anything. My oldest dog (whom I've spent 12 years with is the smartest dog I've ever seen). He follows a dozen hand signals, and knows hundreds of words and commands. I've also breed blue and red healers, of which I had some very smart dogs, but no smarter than the staffie. The difference is the healers would bite my kids when they were toddlers. I much prefer the trusted staffie.

The problem is that "pitbull" seems to mean 2 things in America. It can mean "American Pitbull Terriers," but that's usually only among dog enthusiasts. The second meaning is "pitbull-type," which means all dogs of a certain appearance. I'm betting less than 1% of America's "pitbulls" are registered Pitbulls, but the second meaning has taken hold. I'm glad you're educating your friends, because dogs keep dying due to the "pitbull-type" use of the word.
Imagine if all the so-called pitbulls in shelters were just labeled as mixes or cross-breeds, instead of an age-old scareword that has been hyped up by the media for decades.

    • @brianrich7828
      @brianrich7828 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Easy misconception. And a common one. In America they are still to be considered pitbull breed due to AKC registration. But we've had both breeds and cam easily tell the difference. Wonderful breeds altogether.

I've had Pitbulls and Staffies, not a lot between them. Choke chains, back in the day (sorry), halties and harnesses had little effect in stopping them pulling. Sooo, back to basics. The leash is a command, dog sits at your side, leash is attached while the dog stays in position and the step forward is the visual command to walk at heel backed up with the verbal command. When (if) the dog is walking at heel I let the slack leash touch the shoulder, it reinforces the correct position. To get to this point I bore the dog into obedience. When it loads the leash up I give a soft verbal rebuke and gentle tug on the leash. Inevitably that fails so it's back to sit and heel. When the dog ignores the rebuke it's sit, stay, heel. Rinse repeat. A short walk can last a long time but I've managed to get every dog to heel on a slack leash with this slow and patient method.
A pocket full of high value treats helps a lot if you walk a measured distance and reward the heel at the end.

All I did was offer to play with him and we did for less than an hour. Took him home and after a short period of checking out his new home nestled up to me and went to sleep. Now I don't know what I would do without him. He's very attentive and eager to please has a moderate prey drive and has helped with some vermin on the farm. His favorite prey are Pheasant and Partridge which he has yet to catch not for lack of trying, it's so interesting to watch him stock the birds. I think he would make a great hunting dog but most of all he's great companion.

I will say that I have had substantial interaction with countless pits and staffies. Have raised & bread both & have found that "pitties" can be extremely affectionate as well and the training between the two is practically identical. But yeah Pitties Need some of that ruff stuff, even aggressive affection HARD squeezes and face smooshing. Blessings to you and yours 😊

We took in a stray. We assumed it was a black and white pit, but soon realised there are several kinds of Pits. Thank you for this video. Now I believe shes a Staffordshire because you explained her behavior spot on. At first we were concerned due to the hype about aggressive, malicious dog attacks..and rightly so..but I feel much better. She's a great dog, turns out. Stubborn, but very smart and we plan to give her what she deserves to live happily.

We've recently had a puppy come into care needing surgery and we think she's some kind of stafford. We are doing our best to take her everywhere and expose her to many people, dogs, animals, vehicles and so on. She's definitely very friendly and gentle natured, but we want to try and foster that as much as possible.

I adopted a 5 month old part female Lab (80%) and part Staffy (20%) that just turned 8 months old. However she is much more Staffy in appearance. My other dog is a 3 year old male part Australian Cattle dog and Brittany Spaniel that looks just like a Dingo except the ears are down. Touching to see how much they like each other. They play off and on all day in the house and back yard. I am retired so take them for a couple walks a day that adds up to 1 1/2 to 2 hours a day. It’s crazy how strong she is and seems not to care if she tumbles down the stairs or off the couch. She is still young and does not know her strength. The male dog on occasion is like a bowling pin when the “tank” runs into him. Funny but concerning. He lets her know when he’s had enough. Her lab genetics makes her a powerful swimmer when I go to the lake.
Came back from a week by a lake where she swam about 3 hours a day. She likes to put her head under the water. Is this a Staffy trait too?

We've had our puppy for 4 weeks now. The people we got him from said he is a staffy but we think they may have said that because a serious mayling by a pair of pits was in the news and they really needed a home for him.
We think he may be a pit or even a pit/staff mix. Is there any way to tell at this age?

My Pitbull has proven that chewing is the way to go when he is bored. He has destroyed all his toys. His main goal it to take their "heart" out AKA the squeaker, has chew all his beds and blankets, the chairs, couch, cardboard, pens, pencils, sticks, clothing, shoes, you name it, and recently has started on vinyl flooring. He gets exercised, but to get him tired for a few hours happens when he gets to play with other dogs, he absolutely loves it.

I have a Staffy and he's the softest, freidnliest dog i've ever had, my daughter was only 4 when I got him as a pup and he loves her so much and he loves her firends visiting, he plays on the trampoline with them too, he will defend himself against dogs that bite him, thankfully I've always had him on the lead on the few occasions he has being bit, but, he always assumes other dsogs will play with him, and cats actually,
oh, lets not forget, he gives great hugs, not kidding at all, he often comes over to place his head over my shoulder and stays there with his wagging tail

One has a slightly longer muzzle is eternally patient, loves and recoginzies smaller weaker critters, and is super energentic, loves to run, and exercise. The other is more snub muzzled, a born leader, and makes sure the other one knows its place. However, has no where near the prey drive, or exercise needs of the other. Both are extremtly loyal and affectionate. Any ideas out there, TH-cam land? I adore them both.

The difference between staffs and pit bulls are always vague. I’ve never heard anyone give an account for how the staff got its long legs. I have a 3/4 staff 1/4 greyhound. People who are in the know think she’s pinball.Makes a lot of sense when you think the best fighting dogs came from Ireland and the Irish are also keen for hunting.I’m suggesting the origin of the pitbul came from designing a lurcher …. A greyhound to catch up and the staff for the attack = a pit bull is born

@Rich Pedley - the reason you've never heard an account of how the SBT got it's long legs is, SBT don't have long legs, thus no one has talked about it. The SBT is a compact dog.
The Pit bull has nothing to do with the Lurcher or the Greyhound.
