    Our Staffy found us. He was dumped on a rural state route and left to fend for himself. We were driving that road when we encountered him, walking the center line. We pulled over and I opened my door, thinking about getting out. Was no need to get out. He walked around to my side, crawled into the car, sat on the floor, and laid his head in my lap. We are retired seniors, and live in a 600 sq ft cabin, and at that time we had 2 other dogs (one has since passed) and 4 cats! We had no room for such a big guy, and at the time he had a dislike of cats, and so though it saddened us, we started looking for a good home for him. The shelter had deemed him “unadoptable” because he’d lunged at one of them. I tried explaining that he thought he was guarding me, they said dogs don’t bond with humans that quickly. BULL!!! Long story short, 2 & 1/2 years later, he is now family. He’s going NOWHERE!! And I still say that with love in my heart, a 1/2 hour after he knocked me down for the 3rd time. Took me clear off my feet this time! He’s nearly 100 lbs, I’m around 125, with osteoporosis!

    They are the no.1 most abandoned breed =( we rescued her at maybe 6mos old, she was abandoned near out in the country in a field near Wintertime..
    Best dog I've ever had. I still cry when I think about her being gone now.. She was SO SMART. She knew how to unlock the deadbolt and turn the doorknob to get into the backyard, so we had to put up baby gates when we weren't home..😅 We joked she was our little raptor.. (she was harmless, never so much as growled at anyone, was wonderful with our little nephews when they were babies, but, was never really socialized with other dogs,, so she did not really like to be around them..she wasn't ever aggressive with them, she would just run away or ignore them when they tried to play.)
    She knew several commands that could be given in sign language, as well as verbally. She knew the names of a dozen of her toys/babies and could retrieve any of them that you asked for. She was so lovable. She would jump up and sit in my lap like a recliner like she was still a puppy.. She had lots of energy and loved to run around the yard and go on long walks. Our vet called her the wonderdog because she lived to be over 15 1/2 years, their life expectancy is around 12-14. She was such a pretty girl.. I miss her dearly. If you train them right as a puppy, they will be one of the best family members you will ever have... don't let anyone tell you different!

      @holysmokes252 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @@Supreme0757 They are loyal to their family to a fault. They are kind and gentle. They are not much on protecting property, but heaven help someone who tries to hurt a family member. They are mostly kind and playful. They will let you know if something strange is happening. The only thing I will caution you about is
      they need to be properly socialized at an early age, and I would not leave a younger one alone with children. They are quite athletic with showing love when they are young and may knock a child down. I have not met one that would intentionally hurt a child. Find a good breeder of English staffies. I use Rockstaff kennels.

    • @straycat3041
      @straycat3041 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@Supreme0757 I agree with everything holysmokes just said. They do need a lot of owner interaction as they thrive off loving attention from their owners. I have had many breeds, and love all dogs, but Staffies focus in on you. I, too, use Rockstaff.

      I have one that’s so loyal that we can let him outside without a leash and he won’t leave our yard. Although I wouldn’t recommend letting your Staffy out without a leash, I’m just giving an example of how loyal Staffies can be. My Staffy is so protective that he doesn’t like anyone touching me, not even to give me a hug. He doesn’t attack the other person but he does practically lick them to death to teach them a lesson don’t touch me lol

    Our staffy was a rescue. He is a big baby. He thinks he is a lap dog, at 100 pds (vet says should be 90). He is gentle, intelligent, beyond loving. Just a side note. We had a golden retriever that was both human and animal aggressive and we had to watch him like a hawk because people thought because he was a retriever they could just run up and cuddle him. NOPE!!!! He was very protective and great with kids but exhausting to watch and manage. Our staffy? The opposite but people are terrified of him. sigh.

    This was one of the best, most honest review of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier that I have seen. Especially the part about the Neediness which to some may sound like a big negative and depending on the owner it could be. Need to put the time in but the reward will be tenfold!
    When my four boys were young, my wife and I worked different shifts so one of us would be at home at all times. Now that they’re grown and we are “empty nesters” we’re doing the same for our spoiled dogs!

    I I knowingly adopted a pit terrier nearly a year ago. We didn’t know why she was the way she was and had come very close to rehiring her because we weren’t equipped for the demands she had. I say demands but at the time we thought they were problems because we assumed the shelter knew what kind of dog she was (lab/boxer/dalmatian mix) However the older our dog got the more her features changed and developed into a much clearer picture of what kind of dog our pup really is and with that helped us to better understand her and adjust our expectations. I’m still working with her to train our dog because her ordinarily docile personality has recently changed to hostile towards strangers at our door but I understand now why that is. This video is spot on when they describe her behavior and her physical demands. This dog will not quit. Energy to spare and loves to run around and chase small animals. I love our little pup to pieces though

She idolized me and hates when I'm not around. I'm a truck driver and work 13h a day. My lady works from home however so mazie gets attention when I'm gone. The second I get home however... endless play. Between her 3 mixes, she is a fully loaded box of explosives. Lol this video was great thanx much! Mine is half staffy half border collie, and his energy level can go through the roof. He is super strong, and extremely clumsy. Overall though I think I have done a good job training him...except for the demise of my wife and son's socks that he gets into(I put mine away.) He is a sweet dog, but you constantly have to tell him "no" because he always wants to jump on you. On the other hand he sleeps on the floor by my side of the bed and let's me know when it's time to go out and do his business. When it's time for a treat it's a cakewalk. "Sit, Catch." Then I toss it to him and he catches it. Same with his food. "Sit, stay, easy, Ok go get it."

    I love Staffordshire bull terriers and crosses and English bull terriers and American Staffordshire terriers and American bully and pit bulls and I have always owned them and I will continue to. My last one a white Staffordshire bull terrier called Reah I had for 15 1/2 years and he was so placid and tame and friendly and chilled and excellent around children other dogs and cats and people and he never growled or hurt anyone ever. I pampered him and was with him right until the end when he was put to sleep in my arms after being rushed to the vets at 55 mph and turns out it was a cancerous burst stomach tumour and nothing they could do. I lost him in July this year 18th I now have another a tan and white with black patches all over 11 week old male Staffordshire bull terrier cross American bully xl called Hero who is doing really great. I know Reah would want me to open my heart up to another and I will do the same for him as I did for Reah and prove people wrong about them. ❤

    Mine is about to be 4 years old and isn’t spayed. She don’t like other dogs and is very highly energetic , stubborn , aggressive but loyal. She’s badass but so hard to take care of. Thinking buying a biting sleeve so she can find a new hobby and maybe use it to reward and train her easily.

      30+ years ago I was dead set on a staffy bull puppy after seeing one in a movie. I was thwarted by the powers that be and was blessed with a apbt and then also another apbt. Both passed after long happy lives. One had passed and an AmStaff found his way into the house and when the 2nd Apbt passed another Amstaff caught my need to rescue it and other puppies from a bad situation. In the time of all these bullies. They weren't alone. Having shared living space with a border collie (mothers), two rat terriers (GMa's), Shetland sheepdog and golden retriever(girlfriend and her sisrer's)and a chihuahua (another girlfriend). All have moved on by one means or another. So I went and put all efforts in my current Staffordshire bull terrier. All these dogs in the past and none have put up such a challenge as this staffy has been. Got a real stinker here and there ain't a frickin chance in he'll I'm giving in or giving up on this boy. I do need some advice and really hoping the course is still available as your approach is what I feel to be the best chance I have. I really need to be reprogrammed to give this boy his best life and to keep me sane at the side

    ..."Could bite through another dog's skull like a knife through butter..." That's quite an exaggerated statement, or is it? I've had Pitts and staffies for 20 years and have never witnessed one seriously trying to harm another dog, just mild hierarchy disputes with growling and some wrestling. Are they truly capable of such a thing, that easily? Honest question.

    Sorry but 😂😂 I've had staffs for 38 years amd I've never had a needy one like I just heard on this video! As for bite force the psi is around the same as a Labrador and I've been around labs English and working Americans and I would definitely tell inexperienced dog owners to get a staff over a lab! Take your staffy out for an 30-60mins in the morning and they will happily sleep on the sofa while your at work! There is a reason they are so popular in England! I've owned a couple terriers, a springer and a bandog and hands down the staffs have been my easiest to own. As for there history that's just ridiculous. The bull and terriers weren't even used for bear and bull baiting let alone the staffs! And to suggest a bassist hound over a staff is just madness 😂

  • @BrokeredHeart

    I mean, I get the inclination to put off inexperienced dog owners - bully breeds are a handful because they can be stubborn and tenacious, along with the high energy of their terrier genetics, but to say "go with a golden lab or retriever" because you say they're EASIER is a stretch. Any dog without consistent and routine training and obedience can be dangerous, regardless of breed. I know people with labs that still struggle with their training because they're too high energy. I met a family whose retriever ran away from them in a park and ended up killing a fawn it found in the long grass. Another retriever cannot be in the same house with children because she will bite. My mother was a visiting nurse and would go into people's homes to treat them post-op, and she never experienced any issues with "problem breeds" like rotties, pitties, and dobermans. She was bitten by lap dog breeds like chihuahuas and pomeranians, and had two so-called "gregarious" golden labs throwing themselves at her as she tried to walk from the house to her car. They bowled her over and left her with bruises all over from that one visit.
    Every dog requires mental and physical activity throughout their day. Every dog needs attention and training. Every dog must be socialized to behave in a welcome manner around other dogs, people, children, and cats. To center out Staffies or Pitbulls as some sort of dog breed anomaly minimizes the very active hand humans have in their wellness and obedience. This was the same breed featured in books and advertisements during the 1900s as the ideal family dog, even in tv shows like The Little Rascals, or comic strips like Buster Brown. It's their recent turn to being used for dog fights and baiting that has turned public perception of them, but again, it's the people breeding these babies to be violent, not the breed itself.
    My uncle bred Staffordshire Bull Terriers for a number of years, and they were all delightful pups. I got bitten as a child by the mom, but that was because I reached into the whelping box when I should have left the puppies alone. The dog was disciplined, and I was taught not to pick up the puppies while they were napping. My uncle was breeding them for temperament, and every single one of those pups turned out to be a mush - goofballs, couch potatoes, snuggle buddies, and nannies to toddlers. All because they got early training, and the owners were selected for the type of household that would dedicate the time and effort to raising well-rounded dogs. Lay the groundwork early and often, and you'll have a beautiful Staffie that will give you a lifetime of love and laughs.

    If you have to "establish dominant behavior" over a "pet", is it still a "pet"? Sounds like a boss with a power trip. Being a loving friend while still maintaining boundaries seems a better approach, in my opinion. You yank that leash and the dog is gonna react but, to what extent. What was behind that yank on your end, intention wise?
    You point out that this dog has issues.... and? All pets will have one or another. That's a very generalized approach. Like a person, they have a personality from the moment they open those little eyes. I will be strait up and say I don't like a negative title for a video on a breed that is "labeled". You want fear to grow in the minds of the already nervous? I have an AmStaff that is as sweet as honey. Does he freak out some folks... sure does. They're ignorant and in fear through ignorance. Others see a big baby 🥰😍.
    To each there own I guess.
    Good luck in all your hard work and efforts. Be safe and use common sense ✌️

    My staffy is an absolute menace and I'm planning to rehome her. I think breeding matters a heck of a lot in terms of their temperament + personality as my one is completely wild. Just wanting to clarify that for everyone out there. Not all staffies are the same and some are absolute uncontrollable menaces. Thanks.

      Not to say all staffies are the same but for sure my staffy is extremely wild and disobedient and I have to respect that because I know that that's his element and I can't morph my lifestyle around that. I can't offer him the stimulation he requires to thrive and yes, that is on me but there definitely is an aspect where it's very difficult to keep in a non-rural household. Hope that makes sense.

    I agreed till the end of this video… staffys where nanny dogs and service dogs welllll before used for blood sport!!! No such thing as blood sport instinct being passed down!!! Only if that specific dog was exposed to bad people torturing them into aggression. To which most fail and either get brutally killed abandoned or pawned off to animal lovers who dare not speak of their illegal work in fear of them going missing (being murdered). Yet once again even by dog trainers dogs are getting stigmatised instead of these horrible people being put in prison for life or put down!!! Like the many dogs ceased that they ruined!!! Fear mongering is not how you A) help unstigmatise a breed… and B. definitely not how you suggest why not to get a breed. Yea should know better lads!!! Also it is funny how you mentioned a house favourite nanny dog classic “golden retriever” or “lab” they are the most common breed for dog attacks yet still popular breeds for service dogs just because they do not appear scary. I bet if it was normalised to chop off retrievers and labs ears and inject them with steroids to make them unnaturally muscly people would grow to hate them too. I’m really disappointed in this channel… as well as I tried to avail of the free lesson on dog training especially for dogs that pull on leads. The video would not play audio or would freeze yet everything else on my phone worked fine. I emailed several times about this technical difficulty yet still no response.
