    Embark has to do their own league. Esports aren't profitable, but selling skins is.
    Embark owns the game, they profit from the skins, they should host the league.
    It's the only sustainable way of growth.
    And YES, I absolutely do believe it can be a great esport. One of the greatest, if done right.

      Easiest thing for Embark is to do both. Contract someone else to run a league because that will be cheaper for them, and doesn't require multiple hires, while also still allowing them to make cosmetics that can make some money on the side.
      esports is almost never a money making venture, anything that Embark tried to host will 💯 be a loss for several years. Thats not to say they shouldn't, and I do think they will try it because they like to have stuff in house, but it needs to be a long investment for the sake of the game

    Love ST4RZ. It was great as a caster to join Breakout and find another person who took the R6 to The Finals pipeline!
    Craze is also an absolute babe, its a fantastic setup they've got, and they made a real example of what esports in The Finals can look like.
    I was super grateful they had me onboard. I've done years of pro r6 casting but to get in on the ground floor with a new game I love playing feels great.
    At the moment the game needs 2 things to succeed as an esport. First, it needs an improved HUD for the benefit of observers, casters, and viewers. The game's action is currently too unreadable to fully do justice to the incredible gameplay. The second is just any kind of official scene from Embark. Of course there are good and bad ways to go about both these things, but those are the key points.

    This game could be cinema, people grappling, dunking plugs, buildings collapsing, but for some reason the game in some ways is kinda staled and doesnt let people have the freedom that a game like the finals should offer. Dont misunderstand me, i really think that the finals is a fun an addictive game, but i would like to see more people grappling, or more heavies creating chaos with flamethrowers. But its kinda delusional to think or pretend that in enviroments where people is competent at the game should be space for every weapon and every playstyle, which is something that most of the playerbase will not understand,and lets be real they dont have to either

      i think, instead of an esport, maybe... a gameshow style thing, where people who don't know how to play the game but are used to FPSes are given random loadouts and are forced to go all in? have more zany gameshow stuff happen both in and outside of the game, or something.

    The 3rd person flight cam is a bad viewing experience. The game is the most exciting to watch when it's hectic in the qualifier rounds. The 3v3 final format is super boring to watch. Way too much dead time when a team wipes and then a setup takes place and then another wipe followed by another setup and so on.

    • @ach9108
      @ach9108 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      @@KaleTornado yea in the final round there is less action then in qualifing rounds but I don't see the problems in CS eSports when they are buying stuff or just sitting in corner.

    • @dogwithdabutter4
      @dogwithdabutter4 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

      I disagree with this a good bit. I think 3v3 is just as interesting and exciting, if not more, than 3v3v3v3. But, that’s not the point since 3v3 is the perfect BRIDGE into learning 3v3v3v3. the truth is, most players, even regular finals players, don’t understand the strategy and brains of the players and teams in 3v3v3v3. This ultimately makes it extremely hard to get viewers to stay roped in. The visuals and chaos of the mode will draw people in, but if they don’t know what’s happening they aren’t sticking around. 3v3 is beautiful because it simplifies the objectives and makes it a much more viewer-friendly experience for players new to the esports scene. it’s laser-focused, and it’s very easy to SEE what players strategies are, compared to 3v3v3v3 where it’s almost impossible to pick up on the match strategy that teams are using. We need to remember that for the finals to grow, and for this esports scene to grow, it DESPERATELY needs to be inviting and easy to get into. One of, if not THE biggest reason players quit the finals has always been the Cashout mode, as much as we as a community will hate to admit that as we’ve grown to love it. People simply don’t like learning new things. But 3v3 is exactly what everyone is used to already, and you’re infinitely more likely to keep watching and becoming invested in the game as a new player, if the first thing you see is a final round 3v3 against the two best teams using interesting and fun strategies. I’m really hoping that Embark puts a very heavy emphasis on 3v3 matches going forward if Esports starts to develop.

    It would hold the game back thematically to NOT delve into the league scene, but I think The Finals should have their own thing going on vs. going full on into an esports scene. The bracket-style competitive modes work perfectly for a league, but I don't want an over-reliance on esports' interests to hold back creative development, so if/when they do - it should be on their own platform.

    I think something that people dont really talk about enough is how a team or player that can consistently be considered the best player for a period (i would say minimumly, half a year but the longer the better) is an important sign for a 'healthy' esports scene. It helps to show that that the game has a skill ceiling thats consistent and that it matters, not just luck. It also creates stories more than anything. Whether people like the 'best' team/player, does not matter because they will know their name and will create stories regardless. Meta and stuff does not matter at all, might even be good if the best team abuses it because it creates more stories

    A Esport has to be not only fun to watch, but fun to watch players better than you use their skill expression in a fair environment. The Finals main Ranked mode is fairly competitive but is subject to quite a bit of RNG, questionable balancing, and has a lot of dead time in between team wipes. Without changes to the base model, and despite being somewhat competitive, I don't think it will grow to the level that games like Rocket League, Counter Strike or Rainbow Six Siege currently experience. It will most likely stay a niche experience for a niche community.
    ESports scenes grow organically through community interest, not artificially. So Embark Studios doesn't really need to do anything except focus on making the game really fun, balanced and easy to understand and watch it grow naturally. Games that come hot out of the gate with a huge tournament / Esport event tend to just die quickly and ends up being a huge waste of resources.

    One big this to mention that testing changes, bugs, performance and mechanics on a live server vs like in office on the dev side are 2 very different things. Im a developer and the biggest thing that is really hard to control and fix as a developer is not have the same environment as your customers on companies you develop for.
    For Example. The invisible wall bug. It is really hard for this to happen and actively replicate of the Devs side. They need to be able to replicate the bug consistently (it may be a network issue which is even harder to replicate when you testing on a private server of probably one person trying take make it where it could be caused by 12 players shooting or damaging other building at the same time) and trying to do that on a basically 0 ping server may be impossible, so in those millions of line of code there could be the most niche interaction that shouldn't even relate to the issue causing the problems.
    All I'm saying is stopping being angry that Devs "Aren't doing their jobs" when it could be almost impossible to accurately find an issue.

    I have an idea to make The Finals eSports sound interesting. They just need to pack it like a real game show with hosts and commentators. Also I suggest Embark need another 2 human host/commentators, because I think adding Scotty and Jane might make it more interesting. The obstacle is, are Embark willing to develop an AI algorithm for Scotty and June to actively react to in-game events and the human commentators? If they do without sacrificing time for developing the game, that would be very great!

    I'm not really sure. When has a game becoming part of Esports ever result in having a positive influence on players that don't participate in the sport itself? I guess i'm a little worried that embark would release pathes more related to this super competitive play and losing focus in certain core elements of The Finals. But I dont know, maybe i'm just paranoid. However, The Finals would likely experience a considerable surge in its player base if it were to become a part of Esports.

    Gotta say I hard disagree with Starz on the talk of ballancing. If you ballance your game around the masses all you do is raise the skill floor, the pros get burned out and you end up with a dead game that has a small dedicated playerbase of essentially Dad gamers. We've seen this play out time and time again with shooters. Where as if you ballance the game around your best players it lends to a vibrant comp scene that keeps best players enganged who then stream the game to attract new players and the new players, so long as your game is actually good, get engaged bc they feel challenged. I can tell you almost friend I have has at least tried the Finals and almost to a man they've quit because they felt the game was too casual and there was too much "cheese". It's a fine line for sure, but I think Embark over all has done a rather poor job of it since the start. They take forever to make changes and a lot of the stuff in the game is just conceptually not a good idea in a comp shooter.
    The other issue with the game is the abysmall netcode. Server latency, packet loss and hit reg/no reg. They have to get that sorted asap.
