Living in the outer suburbs of Melbourne didn't mean you were isolated from trends.
I lived in Laverton during the 70's eeeeerrrrggggggghhh! (shudder).
I wasn't a Sharpie though I was a Dag and very comfortable with that. In those days at least you could be allowed to fit into your own separate clique group, in my high school at least, without serious put downs for it. Everyone left each other to their own thing and socialised with their own basically but actually chatted sometimes with each other beyond clique group bounds with only occassional light hearted ribbing of each other.
The Dags got a lot of ribbing from the Trendoids mostly.....but being Dags we just laughed with them as we accepted that they were crazily obsessed to be the first with the latest fashionable clothes and thingies and we were happy to go our own way sticking to our old favourites and picking and choosing from anything new that came on the scene that we actually liked. I remember going to get the very latest ' Dolly ' hairstyle that I really fancied and having the young apprentice give me the new ' Ratstails ' cut instead. Because my hair was cut while wet I couldn't tell that hell was being wrought.
I was horrified but the Sharpies loved it on me and the Trendoids admired my bold new fashion statement. My Dag friends ' laughed themselves sick' while sympathising. I spent a lot of time, while waiting for it to grow out, riding around on hired horses in the wide open empty (of people) rural back blocks of Laverton rather than take train trips into Melbourne with my friends. Thanking the state of Victoria for the ever present and everlasting beanie ( that I never liked and still don't ) that I wore to cover my, what I called, ' Headcut! '

@missdemeanour555 ......I sold me property there last year. Your correct, lots of singles and young professionals but it has serious drug culture, long term locals are awful people, so trashy.
Its very grubby, pollution dust everywhere.
So l'm pleased l sold the property, l wouldn't live there personally.

@missdemeanour555 ... as long as you like living there, go for it. I know what you mean about weirdo's and people asking for money, l get it in the city as well. I don't give them money, but l do offer to buy them a drink hot/cold or some tucker, most appreciate it.
Yep great views here, have great neighbors below and and above, and high level security, not cheap either. But I'm fortunate and love to help people in need as well, I like being charitable when people least expect it. :o)
