@@josephinebennington7247 You’re thinking too hard. Sit back and laugh at the brilliant writing that we don’t seem to be able to cultivate any more. Oh the joys of Reggie Perrin, Ronnie Barker, etc… It would be great to find funny comedy without political undercover sarcasm and awful language.
@@josephinebennington7247 We can call it wisdom I suppose. I certainly like intelligent humour in places, but I suppose I just used to relax at those times, knowing that I was going to smile. I didn’t get too worried about Boycie’s business dealings, or the Driscoll brothers methods of protection, and as for that nasty Jim Broadbent character, I certainly hated him, but just left it alone when the program finished. The big one we used to carry on at work the following day was The Rise and Fall of Reggie Perrin. That was so ridiculous, but we could relate to it. I had always avoided Fawlty Towers, because I had never liked anything to do with Monty Python, but when people were saying I was like Basil, I just had to watch. I was hooked immediately.
My friends and I were playing Trivial Pursuit, and one of the girls said, "Ooh, that's a hard one!" I couldn't resist and replied, "That's what she said!" Hahaha!
OK for those who don't know, when she says "Where's the soap?" she actually means wears like it wears away the soap and the other nun says "Yes it does".
OMG i just got the soap one. A little tricky that one is but not it is just as hilarious as any of the others. Anyone know if the great storm skit is on youtube?
I love the 2nd and the 3rd one they made me laugh like hell :D The soap one made me get confuzed then i looked at the comments but i think its not that funny :l lol or is it just me...
According to one of the people who finally explained it properly, the joke, ineffectual as it is, is that one of the users of the soap is using it inappropriately on a very specific ladies' body part and consequently the soap is wearing out.
@tejaswoman yes, a mate of mine explained it to me 😏. Part of the problem was that, like a lot of other people, I thought she said two nuns in a bar, instead of bath . . . Thanks for your reply.
Some of the commenters have gone part the way to explaining this one. I'm going to ruin my reputation and impart the full meaning... Nun 1 says "Where's the soap?", but Nun 2 hears "Wears the soap". The implication is that Nun 2 (and indeed possibly Nun 1) are using the bar of soap as a... ahem, ladies' pleasuring device - and it's wearing out from use. Now, let us pray... (I'm guessing you've gleaned this now since your post was 12 years ago, but I enjoyed answering it!)
The first nun asks "WHERE'S the soap?" As in "where is," and the other hears it as "WEARS the soap," as in "does it wear the soap"... so she replies "yes, it does rather," meaning that it does, in fact, wear the soap. So really it's just an intellectual remark on the inefficiency of contractions in the English language, in the form of a joke.
I think this compilation must be the jokes from a single series (or in American parlance, season) with that one and the one about the Invisible Man occurring in a different set of episodes.
Emma Chambers, who played Alice, was an actress of immense talent both on tv and the stage
She will be missed forever❤
The programme was always worth it for this part alone.
The only reason. Like Fools and Horses, it soon lost its original punch, and became a comment on class by writers, who think they are high class.

Sad loss. She was lovely
So loved the Vicar of Dibley❤
'What did Eve say when she first saw Adam?' Oh that's a hard one!' 'Yep you're in!' ABSOLUTELY CLASSIC!!!
I don’t get it!
@user-tt9ow7yc9e It's implying that Adam got sexually excited when he saw Eve and got an erection. Then Eve saw it and said, "That's a hard one."

I love these jokes, teh first joke is probably the first and only one that Alice got! It was a good one too!
Of this set, yes, but she also gets the joke about the Invisible Man.... which is why she finds it unfunny.

The first joke was the first joke I ever saw Alice understand.
😂😂😂😂😂
OK for those who don't know, when she says "Where's the soap?" she actually means wears like it wears away the soap and the other nun says "Yes it does".
That's been around for over 60 years, we told it as kids
But I still don't get it even knowing that.
@@tejaswoman me neither, but English is not my mother tongue, so it's a relief some English speakers don't get it either!
Two nuns on bikes go down a cobbled street…
One says I’ve never come this way before…
Second nun says It must be the cobbles…
The seaweed. Great.
OMG i just got the soap one. A little tricky that one is but not it is just as hilarious as any of the others. Anyone know if the great storm skit is on youtube?

Sounds painful LOL
Hilarious video on youtube called "Dibley Dog Marathon Coach". I think they must be fans of dawn french
yeah she does in the third.
Does anyone get joke number 5, 'Where's the soap?'?

Alice doesn't know her homonyms!
What does she say at 6:46?
i don't get the one about the 2 nuns in the bath...
I don't get the one about where's the soap
'Wears the soap' as in wearing down the bar of soap from 'excessive use'.
When Adam awoke from his anaesthetic, for the removal of a rib, and saw Eve., what to you think he said? Wow a womb man?
Subtitles. We need subtitles.
What's the difference between a nun and a woman having a bath? A nun has hope in her soul...
Crude and stupid.
I bet your mother is proud
???
