Dusty Springfield is THE greatest singer of all time IMO. As the previous comments have already stated, she can sing ANY song and make it her own. She really was a star in her own right! And yes, I LOVE the hand gestures! ;D
I only say one word: WHAOU. I'm 27 and have discovered Dusty since only few months. Sometimes i regret not to be born in the 60's...Voice, rythm, gestures, hair all is perfect. At the same time in France we had only bad songs and no singer like her or shirley...
Big Big thanks to whoever put this compilation of Dusty's classics together. So glad to see so much original footage so we can remember her by. A unique voice and talent. Thanks for all cast and members of Gold Coast Little Theatre for a great 'Dusty' show, very professional show. Enjoyed it so much.
Dose Dusty Springfield sing get ready too?Disco ware popular now in high school 40 years ago and they drifted by daytime music broadcast and danced together
The Andantes were a Motown group that filled in backgrounds and even at times main tracks on various female artists' songs. I meant that I read that several Motown major players referred to Dusty as the 4th Supreme and I've seen images, including in books about Motown, in which Dusty is pictured with the Supremes. Then there are the reruns of Dusty's TV show where she sings with the Supremes.
I love both Linda & Dusty. They're both have a very unique & distinctive vocal, in different way. So better not to compare them, though I tend a little bit more to Dusty side
Dusty was the only blue-eyed soul singer who could pull this off! Of course Rare Earth covered it, but she is actually doing a good job on the Temptations' hit. I would have loved to see a duet between her and Eddie Kendricks on this--that would have been off the chain!!!!
Nothing wrong with this at all.. her lovely big voice handled it well over the powerful backing! And for n'er sayers.. Dusty had every right to give this an airing, having been 'personally' responsible for promoting Motown artists in the UK on her show, inviting many to come and sing with her here on her TV show... and never once being overshadowed in vocal talent. She loved them and of course recorded her own soul album on Atlantic in Mmemphis which was very well received.
Nope, I'm not positive but I believe it was Diana who said Dusty was and yes they were friends...that is documented in videos/home movies I have seen. I'm sure the same went for Martha & the Vandellas though. Dusty was friends with all of Motown and so many other musicians across the spectrum of music...so the video record shows.
It's usless to argue who is the best because it depends on one's preference. I wonder how much of Dusty's extensive catalog you have heard. I've loved Linda since I was a child, but to dismiss Springfield so easily seems strange. Dusty was known for having powwerful vocals and like LR could sing just about anything. That is clear by listing to her UK albums. If DS was so limited why did Jerry Wexler, Aretha's producer, want to work with her?
I don't want to give the impression I don't love Linda's music. However, I wonder just how much you know about Dusty's reputation among R&B singers of the1960's. You claim that producers had Linda tutor Dusty on singing "Heat Wave" on the BBC is ludicrous; that event never happened. You're right that DS cannot touch Linda's vocal now. Dusty has been since 1999 .Why can't they both be judged as great singers? Linda herself said she was not comfortable singing R&B. IMO both are fantastic.

Dusty's voice is so strong on this, she had such great showmanship, lures the audience in always. Stands the test of time.

No one has matched her, and no one ever will. She's THE best!
Love it! Thank you.

My favourite song .... Dusty Springfield RIP :(

@Vivelabretagnelibre
actually, it's a cover of the Temptations- Rare Earth released their version 2 years after Dusty performed this.
Excellent song choice. Dusty did Motown well.
Actually the quote is "Berry Gordy was the fourth Supreme." Also Dusty was never friends with the Supremes, but very close to Martha Reeves.
Naw. That is incorrect. All the home movies/videos I have seen have shown that Martha and Dusty were best friends. But thank you for your comment.
Nope, I'm not positive but I believe it was Diana who said Dusty was and yes they were friends...that is documented in videos/home movies I have seen. I grew up in Motown...they say Dusty was the 4th Supreme.

@carter84262 I thought The Andantes were known as the extra Supreme(s).
@calvin667 Check out Kiki Dee's Motown album or Chris Clark's Soul Sounds - should give you an indication to the sound of a Dusty/Motown album
You know how every white girl singer tries to pull off a classic like At Last? Give it up. Watch Dusty. Incredible.
Is it just me or it sounds like proto-metal? Just listen to the main riff
to be honest mate i think dusty would have prefered to be known as the `4th vandella`.
dusty and martha reeves were big friends.
It's a cover from RARE EARTH ?!!! or is it the opposite ?
You would never guess the torment she was going through
Too bad she didn't make a Motown album.

absolutely awful for her, don't know what she was thinking
Didn't like Dusty 40 odd years ago.....things change.
awful
Amazing
