finally someone still talking about long covid. I've been into it for 20 months, my husband has recently passed and I'm trying to deal with grief, covid pain and covid brain and then others wonder "whats wrong with her" Thank you for this. There needs to be an online long covid support group. If anyone knows of this, please make a comment. Thanks

There are quite a few support groups on Facebook: the largest is ‘Long Covid Support Group’.
So sorry to hear of your loss. My deepest condolences.

I'm so sorry for your loss, grief takes such time. And we all understand the covid ramifications thrown in with such a life altering event. Please don't let others lack of support or understanding have more weight than your self-love, they really don't know what you are going through, but should care more, imo. People have changed. Sending you an embrace of understanding!

I've been dealing with this since Jan-2021. I still jabe rapid HR. I'm stuck with POTS now. It affects my life, my relationships. No one understands what im dealing with or where I'm coming from. I feel guilty in certain aspects of life. I even quit my job because i can't think coherently. I still have brain fog. I was an IT professional 😞 Women in my age group sre able to cycle and compete. I cant even ride uphill without dying. My HR easily reaches 200 bpm. Its so discouraging. Thank you for your work. I don't feel like im alone anymore. I feel selfish about that.

Always happy to see any of your videos, this is a real bonus piece. Moved me to tears as well! We need hope in an otherwise hopeless feeling situation and this was a feel good video. Gez, you look and sound amazing, hope that is a good sign. I am still struggling with four years of long covid now and waiting for treatment or cure. Until then it actually feels like a long slow death and can be one big surrender. Not a pity party or the like, just the same raw truth as poetry. Thanks so much, this was nice.

I write poetry often, and as I've had Long Covid since April 2022, my poems have become about that.
    Here's one:
Trying desperately to find a cure,
    And every suggestion is torture.
Cause every time gives you hope,
You try and try and try but nope.

I’m most interested in learning about the research about finding biomarkers for LC, and especially the autoimmune response that many with LC get. Eg the recent mouse study where the transfer of blood components from LC patients to mice triggered symptoms in the mice.

I just joined her instagram and reading bits of poetry, it struck me how it hit me so easily. Often times, poetry is full of metaphors and complicated meanings between the lines, but this poetry was beautifully worded, sweet and honest, and made a little easier to grasp for a brainfogged brain😅

I would love a video on how to efficiently explain long covid more easily and quickly to people. I find that people are curious and want to know, but I often end up spending much of my precious energy in explaining, or trying to explain the disease.

Maybe I should start that 90s video when people ask😂 But, people really want to know, e.g. what is it like to undergo this, can you move at all, you look fine, has exercise helped, can you work, why not, etc etc. The curiosity is huge. I am a talkative, social, active person (scientist, actually), who like to talk and explain science, and frequently find myself explaining the disease when meeting a friend, relative or colleague. It is exhausting and not what a longhauler wants to prioritize energy on.

Lovely video Gez! I’d love to see a video regarding the rebuild of relationships in our community after you have fully recovered. I find after so long I have a hard time connecting to my community and it seems they don’t really have much to say to me. Almost like it never happened but yet I’m certainly not the person I was before September 2020. It makes me want to move far away and start over. Anyone have any thoughts?

Oh gosh - yes that’s a big one. Chronic illness is so different to acute injury isn’t it? If you’d broken some big bones people would be asking all about it… but something about chronic illness (despite being much worse - I’ve done both) really doesn’t illicit the same curiosity.

I noticed with an amino acids mix it helped my strength. I monitored my grip test and it went up by 6kg unthinkable before within a week. Doing grip test is an important marker for long covid muscle weakness. Get a dynometer which is not that expensive to monitored your strength and energy levels .

    Hiya Gez,
4 1/2 years into this "relationship" and *now* you start reading us poetry? (is a joke)
I have a suggestion! Going back to the old days I sometimes think about you taking the DeLorean around the Nurburgring, a thing of majesty in its silliness. Have you considered leisurely taking the old thing around some road circuits within easy reach? eg? IoM, Le Mans, Monte Carlo? I'd be curious to see how you get on with the traffic in Monaco!
Take care and be well everyone, we'll get through this yet!

@@RUNDMC1 I suggest it as a means of getting out of the LC content headspace, which can become very wearying to the soul after so long. It probably won't do terribly well with most of the LC community but it would be brilliant fun.

@@Jablicekabsolutely - one of the reasons why I’ve not been putting much content up on this channel is that I’ve been endeavouring to get out of the headspace (also why I started the second channel on filmmaking, until the algo killed it…)

      @@RUNDMC1 tl;dr: unasked-for advice, sorry
I'm guessing you still have contacts in the industry, and there's crossover with "traditional" and the streaming/VoD space - are you able to approach anyone for critique or mentoring?
I'd imagine that media criticism/review is something you understand well and want to be in and ~10 pieces and a few months isn't really long enough to crack it, given how well populated the landscape is.
The algo really did a number on that channel, were you able to gain any useful info from the metrics or comments?
A few years back I was mentoring, and one of those people had a small YT channel that's now better than many in his genre. It may have been partly my advice (mainly, if it's not working change what you're doing; don't be married to a particular style if it's not being watched), but it was 100% his own hard work.
And that would be my advice to you. Take whatever useful feedback you can get from your audience (YT metrics: comments, watch times and when people are dropping out, where they came from on the ones that did well), your narration style, pacing, colour and movement, how often and how long are the pieces to camera and cutscenes. Whose work in the same field do you admire (and what about it do you enjoy) and who's doing well in that field that you don't necessarily like but the audience does.
It's trite, and you know this from your own experience, but we emulate, experiment, and find our own voice. I'm not certain that the same skillset you've used for the LC videos, which were informative and for an audience of reduced endurance, will work for a genre that is often faster-paced.
It's awful, but everything we do in a creative environment that's meant for an audience needs regular appraisal, reappraisal, and honesty from ourselves.
If you win, we all win. Please take this wall'o'text in the spirit it's intended: as *constructive* critisism, and an incentive to revisit a concept to which you could bring all your expertise and contribute something new.

    • @RUNDMC1
      @RUNDMC1  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

very welcome advice - and I agree with all of it!
The reason I stepped back is that the algo death corresponded with a series of copyright flags I got for trying to upload a video that contained some clips from BTTF. Immediately after that the channel was cut from all recommended/home feeds for other users (can see on the analytics) and views pretty much went to zero on the subsequent 3 or 4 vids.
Would the algo have changed its attitude if I’d kept creating content? Who knows. There are other channels that got shadow banned and kept making content for a year but never shook it off.
You can’t talk to anyone about it, or resolve the issue, and you have no idea what will happen in the future (much like LC, eh?) so given
that the videos were particularly energy and time intensive to make, it wasn’t a risk I was prepared to take on limited energy whilst still unwell.
I may yet put something out on the channel to test the algo, but each vid was a solid week’s worth of work so will need to get some clear time and inspiration to do that :)
Rest assured that I have been working on other creative endeavours in the meantime - you will hear about them in due course!
