King Gizz are masters at them motifs! At the end of their days, which I hope is a long time from now, their entire catalog of music will just connect so well and be this tasty form of art
It's the prequel, the context, the People Vultures from the Altered Future brought the Lord of Lighting who accidentally created the Balrog, ending the old world and creating a new world where the old one used to be.
And in my head canon, the altered beast is the Balrog, and when him and the lord of lighting fight, they bring on a nuclear winter and the post apocalyptic of Han-Tyumi, Nonagon and FMB. I Think SOBE is outside the Gizzverse, but I like to think it's a study in to an outwardly pleasant seeming town with something sinister beneath the surface. Like it seems like a haven in the post apocalyptic wasteland, but the people are just off.
fragular this is almost 100% correct except that the altered beast may just somehow be related to the balrog. Altered future happens before robot stop, people vultures happens during lord of lightning. Evil death roll during digital black, and invisible face is the view from inside hantyumi (where you and I live) during murder of the universe. Paper mache dream baloon is the temptation and false comfort of integrating into hantyumi. The altered beast is definitely the crocodile from the river, evil death roll, and invisible face. Which relates to creating people vultures which is the source of the balrog. I know I left some things out but you're totally on it. Oh look at the covers of mind fuzz nonagon and murder. Notice murder has a burnt out nonagon and the ghost of the cultist from mind fuzz and the hand of the balrog may be the hand from mind fuzz too (and the same castle is in all 3 except on murder a ruined city has been built on top of it). EDIT: oh the lord of lightning is radioactive (thunder not likely herd) gamma knife may be referring to his power, and the final clap of light that he makes when he leaves is the nuclear blast at the start of the album which leads into FMB and the reason for the migration into Han tyumi. The altered beast kills every living creature outside of Han tyumi during evil death roll then dies while it tells its two mind meld victims (stu and the bear) about the lord of lightning. There also may have been a group who was opposed to integrating into hantyumi and whatever counter measure they developed may be what fig wasp is about. However it seems like they were mostly killed and the last human was placed into Han-tyumi. This might relate to whatever exactly corrupts the data within Han tyumi. So maybe Han tyumi existed before the blast but the explosion killed many refugees and drove the remaining damned lot into the robot who didn't stop.
Makes sense. I also think that King Gizzard are actually bards from another dimension that came here to tell us the tales of their world through song. Like the olden day bards singing of the heroes and villains of legends past. I hope we eventually get to find out who the actual King Gizzard is and who the Lizard Wizard is in relation to the Gizzverse.
This "Great Beast vs Lord" motif pops up a lot and I didn't notice that connection but I think you nailed it. Lord of Lightning in this specific context is King Gizzard, Balrog is the Lizard Wizard. So the Mind Fuzz Cult Leader was also King Gizzard that time that he was killed by the People Vulture who was the Lizard Wizard.
ALSO!!!: In the lyric booklet that came with the preorders, the brain robot in the robot stop video is drawn twice. The brain robot IS Han-Tyumi :DDDDDDDDD. Go check the reddit, its there somewhere.
Here's the timeline as I understand it by this point; Altered Future happens before Nonagon Infinity even starts (or maybe at the end of it?!) Robot Stop Big Fig Wasp Gamma Knife People Vultures Some Context Lord of Lighting The Balrog Floating Fire Acrid Corpse A New World Altered Beast/Me 1-3 Altered Beast 4 starts Digital Black Occurs Altered Beast 4 Ends The Reticent Raconteur (the Altered Beast tells the story to Stu while they wander as one, dying) Life/Death Han-Tyumi The Confused Cyborg Soy protein Munt Machine Vomit Coffin Murder of the Universe Maybe Quarters is before the Altered Future, and I'm not sure where Mind Fuzz fits but the cult that summons the People Vulture is the Mind Fuzz cult, and the guy they turn into a guitar was a Mind Fuzz cult leader of some sort. Also they draw attention to the guitar again in the Lord of Lightning video hmmmmmm.... And the People Vulture is the Crocodile, and the Balrog is potentially the dead People Vulture.
I think something should be said for the fact that the Gizzverse ends with being consumed in a giant mess of throw up and a “gizzard” is another word for a stomach. So I guess they foreshadowed that plot thread in their name? Idk, just me?
i think this will be some insane story or something.. or they did it for their movie! this guys are genius, they have some nice shit in their heads for sure ;)
Shred4Life well I'm pretty sure that murder of the Nonagon fuzz is what the band wanted to aim for but a fan beat them to it. Maybe the fourth album of 2017 will also connect with all the others. Maybe not. We'll see.
yes, i heard something about polygodwanaland, dunno if it's true or not but it could be of the "nonagon-theme records.. we gonna see. just enjoy their next record on august 25th :D haha ridicolouss
Great video dude! If I could point out another callback, is at 8:11 in the Lord of Lightning, referencing the same harmonic style riff from Evil Death Roll that is played at around 0:20 in Evil Death Roll. Check it out
I mean, you missed a really obvious one: The ending of People Vultures is shown in the beginning of Lightning Lord vs Balrog. C'mon, it's literally the same costume and everything.
I am aware that it's a word, meep. And yes, I'm also aware that it's an immensely large number. I pointed out the prefix because it fits in with the video's theme.
i mean i like king gizz a lot but are we calling playing the same or similar riffs on different albums/songs a 'callback' or 'foreshadowing' rather than just repeating the same idea?
Murder Of The Universe is a sister album to nonagon infinity so of course there is a lot of references. But honestly if they do share ideas throughout albums, it's done very cleverly, people shouldn't be bothered if they still enjoy the music.
I thought lord of lighting was more gamma knife than people vultures. FLOATING FIRE! (GAMMA) GOLDEN WIRE (GAMMA) SILVER TRILL (GAMMA) FLASHING SPIRE (GAMMA)
Why does motif within their music get labeled as some sort of "gizzverse" instead what it is which is just efficiency of creation and hooks. Its not like its harder to reuse a melody musically or shape/artwork visually. When you set out to make an album cover and this new album sounds similar to one that they've already done, in terms of a prog-rock inspired garage rock sound, then why wouldn't you use the same imagery? When you are as prolific as they are its more akin to the "anything goes, fuck it" mentality of the flaming lips than it is some sort of deliberately crafted universe in which half of their music's stories take place. If anything I think its kinda lazy music listening. Maybe people vultures is actually about like people, and how in real life they can be like vultures, opportunists looking to score. Maybe gamma knife is about a crazy technology which ya' know actually exists and was introduced in our lifetimes? Maybe the music being connected doesn't mean some grand gizz-conspiracy. And maybe y'all should give bands like Yes, King-Crimson, and Rush, hell The Who a listen so musical motif isn't so surprising. Its just what rock'n'roll is baby!!!!
They haven't even done 4 albums in one year. They haven't even released the third album tf u talkin about Boi? And the past riffs don't dominate the new songs. All of the new songs feel new in nature. They just put, as some one else mentioned, little musical winks.
Love this when they play live and you are so confused what song is actually getting played
100% true.
Well that and the drugs
I fucking knew it. I knew I heard Hot Water in Robot Stop.
King Gizz are masters at them motifs! At the end of their days, which I hope is a long time from now, their entire catalog of music will just connect so well and be this tasty form of art
Justo Blando you'll be able to connect their albums in a perfect nonagon :D
If they don't explain the whole story at the end of their days, I'm going to be depressed.
welp People-Vultures is literally played in Murder of the Universe

King Gizzard cinematic universe

*hentai-umi
**Humanity
oh fuck dude
*Ham-Unity
I don't need no reddit, watched all vids on a looping sequence twice and it's almost as it's only one thing, feels like egyptian mythology man
They are disgustingly good
Here's the timeline as I understand it by this point;
Altered Future happens before Nonagon Infinity even starts (or maybe at the end of it?!)
Robot Stop
Big Fig Wasp
Gamma Knife
People Vultures
Some Context
Lord of Lighting
The Balrog
Floating Fire
Acrid Corpse
A New World
Altered Beast/Me 1-3
Altered Beast 4 starts
Digital Black Occurs
Altered Beast 4 Ends
The Reticent Raconteur (the Altered Beast tells the story to Stu while they wander as one, dying)
Life/Death
Han-Tyumi The Confused Cyborg
Soy protein Munt Machine
Vomit Coffin
Murder of the Universe
Maybe Quarters is before the Altered Future, and I'm not sure where Mind Fuzz fits but the cult that summons the People Vulture is the Mind Fuzz cult, and the guy they turn into a guitar was a Mind Fuzz cult leader of some sort. Also they draw attention to the guitar again in the Lord of Lightning video hmmmmmm.... And the People Vulture is the Crocodile, and the Balrog is potentially the dead People Vulture.

Awesome video! I can't believe I didn't notice the hot water bit.
Timmy G. I noticed it a year ago and I thought that was just a little reference. I had no idea how much more it was than that.
I had no idea how many King Gizzard music videos there were prior to this video lmao
Also, in the balrog there's a subtle callback to evil death roll I believe
Could have added the fading of Invisible Face into Soy-Protein-Munt-Machine but still great work!
another foreshadow /callback could be from Ambrose singing the same tune in both slow jam 1 and the river.
i think this will be some insane story or something.. or they did it for their movie! this guys are genius, they have some nice shit in their heads for sure ;)
Shred4Life well I'm pretty sure that murder of the Nonagon fuzz is what the band wanted to aim for but a fan beat them to it. Maybe the fourth album of 2017 will also connect with all the others. Maybe not. We'll see.

Hell yea
pretty sure the drumline in balrog is also the same as the mind fuzz stuff
Great video dude! If I could point out another callback, is at 8:11 in the Lord of Lightning, referencing the same harmonic style riff from Evil Death Roll that is played at around 0:20 in Evil Death Roll. Check it out
James Bings yeah a different rhythm but the same notes, I noticed it too
also motifs from empty/slow jam 1 show up in am i in heaven to really pull that album all together outside of the beginning medley
Zappa did a lot of the same stuff. He would always play riffs and melodies from other songs to tie the themes together. Conceptual Continuity!
great work
Well made video, love the editing!
INVISIBLE FACE VIDEO JUST CAME OUT WTF I WANT SOME ANSWERS
I mean, you missed a really obvious one: The ending of People Vultures is shown in the beginning of Lightning Lord vs Balrog. C'mon, it's literally the same costume and everything.
You used the wrong riff from Mind Fuzz, but we could understand what you meant.
Nice comparisons and video cuts.
Still not convinced they are referencing nonagon infinity in Balrog but whatever floats your egg...
nonillion is a word ding dong
it's just so large you probably couldn't fathom it
I am aware that it's a word, meep. And yes, I'm also aware that it's an immensely large number. I pointed out the prefix because it fits in with the video's theme.
I feel like this Gizzverse thing should also include Paper Mache Dream Balloon, although the album cover doesn’t fit with Mind Fuzz, Nonagon, or MOTU
Soooo neuralink becomes mind-meld cults becomes the matrix becomes the Altered-Beasts and Han-Tyumi?
I've always said this. They play the same song everytime. Can notice even in live performances.
But they are so damn good anyway!
Re-using musical motifs = a connected universe???
Yes
The music nerd in me hates that you called them callbacks and not motifs but thanms for creating this video nonetheless
Trapdoor, best door
i mean i like king gizz a lot but are we calling playing the same or similar riffs on different albums/songs a 'callback' or 'foreshadowing' rather than just repeating the same idea?
Murder Of The Universe is a sister album to nonagon infinity so of course there is a lot of references. But honestly if they do share ideas throughout albums, it's done very cleverly, people shouldn't be bothered if they still enjoy the music.
MOTU is a sister album to both nonagon AND I'm in your mind fuzz
I thought lord of lighting was more gamma knife than people vultures. FLOATING FIRE! (GAMMA) GOLDEN WIRE (GAMMA) SILVER TRILL (GAMMA) FLASHING SPIRE (GAMMA)
Not even close
Hmm emoji
Same universe = recycling riffs?

I totally agree. I made this way back when the Gizzverse craze was very prevalent in the band’s community but I more agree with this standpoint now.
Do women like King Gizz?
i don't know, you would have to ask them all, you can't just dump all women in one box :D
Very much so
Marisa speak for yourself marisa, goddamn
not quite, only us, ethereal beings from Orion residing in female human bodies on Earth
Wtf kinda question is that
I can't really blame my friend for not getting into them because everything blends together.
Well yeah that what happens if you spread yourself over 5 albums in one year. You play the same stuff over and over
They haven't even done 4 albums in one year. They haven't even released the third album tf u talkin about Boi?
And the past riffs don't dominate the new songs. All of the new songs feel new in nature. They just put, as some one else mentioned, little musical winks.
