    Thanks for this. I have a door that has failed, handle floppy on the upturn and will not go past horizontal on the downturn, and am considering whether there is anything I can do myself (I don't think there is) so a short like this helps immensely in getting a grasp of the nature of the problem.

    Thanks for this explanation, my friend's door broke the other night, cylinder working completely fine, however latch will not retract. Looking forward to opening it up and carrying out repair.

    My front door has automatic multi point hooks spring loaded that spring out into frame don't lift handle up as it's automatic and resets upon handle being pushed downwards

    So hard to find a specific issue with locks online but your vid is exactly what I have (even to the same sized broken piece) so thank you. Question is, can I reattach/get a replacement part?

    Anyone know how to adjust the handle please. There seems to be a lot of range when I press the handle down, it almost bangs into the keys it goes that far. This is a brand new door fitted 2 weeks ago.
    Thanks

    What would be wrong with a mechanism if the door handle, when lifting to lock, won't spring back down to its normal position? Yet if pressed down, to open, it springs back up?

    Thanks for the explanation of the lock. In my case the jammed part is the DEADBOLT. The deadbolt is not parallel with the floor, rather it is jammed at an angle towards the floor. It won't retract or move, as a result the frame latch locks won't retract either. What would you suggest I do to get the door open to replace the gear box? It is a 1-3/4" thick door, 32" wide, inswing, with three hinges.

    Hi. Thanks for the video. I had the exact same thing break and jam on my door. I managed to push the latch back with a piece on metal to get the door open and then took the mechanism off. I got the broken piece out of the back of the mechanism that was jamming the latch and put it back in the door (without the broken off bit). Now it all works fine again. Is there any reason not to carry on using it with out the little bit? Thanks.

    Hi. My Euro cylinder lock has jammed, the key is stuck and I can't turn it or pull it out. I want to take the whole locking mechanism out of the door but can't because I can't take the Euro cylinder out of the door. I also don't want to snap it out because it's a brand new ABS lock. Do you have any suggestions? The metal strip up the door is riveted to the gearbox, and I'm considering drilling the rivets out, but not sure if that will even work.

      Fuck off Google Plus
      Best advice I can give you is to call a locksmith... We can come and take a look if you are in the West Yorkshire area or if not, I recommend you try and book a Master Locksmith Association locksmith who is local to you.
      In the mean time, I certainly would not drill the mechanism or do anything until a locksmith gets there as quite often, when people are unsuccessful in repairing a lock or mechanism, they end up spending more money when it's repaired.

    hi there you mentioned in the video a part had snapped and stopped the latch retracting how did you manage to retract the latch while the door was shut as I think this has happened and need to get the latch to retract so I can open the door and then fix the problem

    • @Helplocks
      @Helplocks  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      This particular door was prized open with specialist locksmith tools. If you are in the West Yorkshire area, we would be happy to come and take a look for you but would recommend you call a local locksmith to fix your door. You will need to open the door causing minimal damage & then find the correct parts to repair it, by the time you have done all that yourself, you will probably regret not getting someone else to do it in a fraction of the time.

    • @johnl6564

      I had the same problem. The latch was held into place by a screw which had come loose but they're quite brittle & a good shove on the door broke the latch off with no other damage. I did replace the entire centre case gearbox for £16.50 & remedied some shocking workmanship done by whoever fitted the door in our new-build house.
      I also had to remedy another French door that jammed every time the weather temperature changed. Thirty minutes adjusting the flange hinges correctly & it hasn't jammed since.

    • @sirwalterkissmecrack

      Possibly the springs inside the handle. Take the handles off and you will easily see if the springs are damaged.

    Thanks for showing the insides of the handle mechanism. My problem is trying to get the mechanism out. Although I've previously replaced the cylinder, I can no longer get it out. The screws and cylinder bolt are no problem, but the cylinder seems to be lodged in place by something and even a good tap won't dislodge it. It rattles, but won't move in either direction. I'm stumped. Not in the UK so I cannot seek your help.

    • @Helplocks
      @Helplocks  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      R Ali it sounds like the spring in the latch has gone. I would change the gearbox asap before a broken part gets logged into something that stops the mechanism working completely

      R Ali we are in West Yorkshire & would charge £170 for a gearbox change... I expect it would be higher in London... best advice would be to get 3 quotes from local companies & avoid the nationals.

    This is the problem now with you tube , you posted this video to be helpful and gain some customers , I have no problem with that , but as a locksmith myself with over 30 years in the trade I am getting called more and more to rectify problems with alignment / locks etc because someone came on you tube , watched a video and thought they could do it themselves. Most of the time they end up needing a entire new locking system etc because they fucked it up/lost a spring etc, costing them more money in the long run. ADVICE TO NON LOCKSMITHS WATCHING THIS. CALL A QUALIFIED LOCKSMITH most of us are genuine and honest tradesman who will not rip you off. Rant over.

      Well I think 2nd that. I thought I was saving myself some money, especially before Christmas, so I took the side panel off my door to see what was going on, 1st thing was 2 spindles fell out onto the floor - no idea where they came from! Then, as I couldn't see what was going on inside the Lockmaster centre casing gearbox (I know it's called that because I spent about hours in the phone to various companies to seeing anyone could help me, but they couldn't), I thought it would be a great idea tonopen it & half the contents sprung out at me! No idea how they went back in. 6 hours later I've been able to get some of the bits back in my door, & a lot of the casing contents in the right places (I think) BUT I'm left with a U shaped piece & a long thin part that has the number C029F on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I can't even close my front door until the locksmith comes tomorrow afternoon. I had to use sellotape to close it over so my dog wouldn't escape & we're going to have to put our shoe benches in front of it for tonight & I'm having 2 sleep downstairs - nightmare!
