    Just saved me big bucks, thanks! Excellent idea and cheap mount that will probably be better than expensive mounts.

    Nice budget mod! We had my wife’s oooold iPad 2 that hadn’t been used in years laying around. I found a protective case on Amazon for $17 and bought a Ram Mount to clamp on the passenger grab handle. Since this iPad doesn’t have the GPS chip I also bought the Dual GPS puck that is used by many pilots, for $90. I use a free IOS app called Scenic Map that has the entire western US loaded. Overall pretty happy with the setup. 👍😎

    so essentially as long as I have a device with a GPS chip i'm good? I was going to hotspot to one of my old tablets but I didn't want to kill my phone battery either.

    Love the video/idea, but as an engineer, I suppose I am obligated to point out that you put your lock washers on wrong. Should have been flat washer->lock washer->nut.

    Man i'm so confused. i have Gaia, a GPS app installed on my tablet, mounted in my Can Am but the GPS doesn't work when you don't have cell or data service? What good are these devices if they can't be used out in the sticks? what am i missing? even with maps pre-downloaded and can see them offline the app doesn't know where i am. thanks

      I was researching this myself and apparently the tablet mush have a GPS locater inside and not all models do. I was looking at this to use with an old iPad and it has to be one that has cellular capabilities. I use the Gaia with my phone right now and it works really well, I would just like a larger screen.

    Have you tried the polaris ride command app?

    • @DerangedOffRoad
      @DerangedOffRoad  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The hardware I had wasn’t supported (old tablet) but I used it on my ride the other day with my phone and it was solid. Wish it had turn by turn though.
      I have an extra iPhone now so I’ll be switching my mount/case for it. I’ll be giving ride command a shot on the next few rides and we’ll see how it performs over multiple trips.
      Thanks for watching,
      -Joe

      @@DerangedOffRoad I just ordered a samsung Tab E Lite to use as my gps unit in my rig based on your cool ideas. I'm hoping that I can use The ride command app on it as it's a new model tablet but if not I had no idea google maps was as good as it is as a stand alone gps for trails. thank you for the cool video and tips. I'll be mashing that Subscribe button. In hopes ya post up more cool stuff.

      Awesome, you should be good. The tablet I had was 7 years old. Polaris stopped supporting that version of android. Glad you liked the video, we like making em!

      For sure. If you’re on an android device, Back Country Navigator is a great app. My only issue with my setup has been my tablet. It’s old and slow so I’ll likely upgrade to a new tablet so it’s snappier when I’m out using it. -Joe
