Roxas is my favorite character because his backstory raises a very interesting moral debate. This might be an oversimplification, but it essentially boils down to this. If you had cut off a limb, and it suddenly gained its own sentience, is it ethical to reabsorb that lost limb? The fact that Roxas was reabsorbed into Sora makes his character all the more tragic
It reminds me of the plot of nier gestalt/replicant. Humanity is plagued by a terrible disease so they split the bodies (replicants) and souls (gestalts) of everyone to wait for the disease to die off. Problem is by the time the disease dies the bodies gained sentience of their own. The replicants are just trying to defend themselves since they see the gestalts as horrific monsters while the gestalts just want their bodies back.
What I love is the different ways both of them fight’ sora is confused and is fighting defensively. Roxas on the other hand is feeling so much anger and sadness that he is just fighting like a blood thirsty savage.

PythonDelta That actually happen to me as well but that was due to the fact I heard of the ds game and decided to play that before finishing the game. Don't like to be left off without knowing what going on and that game had a real good part of the story.
Even playing this as a kid, with no context beyond what we knew from the game, I got the feeling that this confrontation had much more pain and sadness behind it than what we could know.
Roxas was surprised because he thought of Sora as unworthy of having the keyblade and that he himself more worthy. So when Sora warped the keyblade Roxas' belief of Sora being of worthy was proven wrong and made him pause, which gave Sora the opening to finish the fight.
Devon Brown sora would've beaten him regardless. Roxas is stronger but he's the nobody of sora so he can't beat sora. And can't roxas warp his key blade?
True I was just explaining how it ended in this instance, and yea Roxas can but he didn't think Sora could like I said he thought he was unworthy and as such wouldn't have the ability. Secondly I mean Roxas never met another keyblader (not including xion because she was forgotten) so he wasn't aware of keyblader's abilities only his own so he could not have realized it.
He was caught off guard, it’s really his second time fighting another Keyblade Wielder, aside from Xion unless he still forgotten that at this point He himself didn’t realize the full capabilities of the Keyblade himself Sure he can summon it in battle but he never thought he can do that too if it leaves his hands He was sure he had Sora beat and let down his guard which is how Sora won Roxas’ fighting style is aggressive compared to Sora, while Sora is more defensive and countering, so he had more of a mindset to think of a way to counter against a superior opponent
Easily one of the most emotional scenes in the series. Up there with Xion and Axel in front of the mansion, Riku and Sora's duel, and the entire ending of BBS
I just beat it after about 12-15 attempts. I stopped playing for a few months when I got to Roxas ha ha. Tbh all the KH games have a fair share of easy and ridiculous boss fights, I hate and love it ha ha.
Roxas in the end got fucked over badly. He wasn't supposed to exist, he had to kill his best friend, he was kidnapped by Riku and DiZ, he had to fight his best friend and then had to return to Sora. In Re:Coded he wanted Data-Sora to feel the agonizing pain that he felt. Roxas is probably the saddest character I have seen in a video game, and it tugs at my heartstrings when I hear his themes.
The moment when Sora takes back Oathkeeper and Oblivion is the moment where we really won. He proved himself to have the stronger will, and that his determination to save others would not lose to Roxas' desire to exist
Ok made it to this fight and the reaction command triggered twice in all of my attempts. I only won once I learned literally everything Roxas does. It's honestly not worth taking the keyblades since you can't block the sheer amount of bu- lasers he throws at you
@@jstar3382I will admit, Sora's desire to save others is indeed very admirable, but Roxas fighting to assert his personhood and right to exist is far in a way more heroic from a certain perspective, because he is literally saying "If my existence makes you uncomfortable, then fuck you!"
@Webidiolchiu94 actually in the original version of Kingdom Hearts 2 you don't get to fight him at all it's only a cutscene and that's how it ended off. Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix is where you get to fight Roxas + the new cutscenes. Fighting Roxas was never available on the PS2 version of Kingdom Hearts 2 unless you have the Final Mix version which was only in Japanese.
Silent Protagonist That might explain why there isn't a save point near where the battle takes place. It was so tedious having to walk to the battle over and over again after getting wrecked by Roxas.
I can't wait for the scene when Roxas meets back up with Riku. Sora: So Roxas said he defeated you. Riku: Really? Because that's not quite what I remember. Roxas: well you see, I defeated you and then you turned into the Heartless of Xehanort and then I lost. So technically I lost to Xehanort's Heartless not you. And technically that was your mind, Terra's Darkness and Master Xehanort's Heart so it was like 3 Keyblade users vs 1.
Not quite. Roxas is a part of Sora. But that doesn't mean Ventus and Sora are a part of Roxas. Confusingly enough, Ventus and Roxas are a part of Sora's heart.

I went in this blind since 2 was the first one I played but never finished it until a couple of years ago, I got 358/2 later on. Looking back now the stuff with Roxas (especially at the start of the game) is depressing as fuck.
The first time I saw that scene with Roxas and Axel talking, my cat (also named Axel) ran away. He came back the next day, but seeing the scene with this Axel, and losing my own Axel left me inconsolable.
I remember the amount of chills this battle sent down my spine. You see an organization member appear before you and you see the 2 Keyblades with you know who’s theme playing in the background my jaw dropped and stayed dropped the whole fight
My guess is that Nomura wanted to add the fight between Sora and Roxas in the original, but ran out of time. So he just used the Final Mix as an excuse to add it back in.
See, that makes me wonder, IF Sora ever goes home other than the short stints in between games, to see family and whatnot would Roxas go with since they are basically brothers at this point
they do but not a real one....sorta ( dream drop explains it ) its sad roxas axel and xion were lied too about not having hearts just so the 13 seekers of darkness to be made
This is truly art. The music being sad and somewhat toned down to reflect Roxas’ painful, desperate struggle. On top of just that, everything is perfect. The fact this fight happens on Sora’s window, the fact that Roxas uses the same voice effects as when you play as him, the difficulty is just right imo. The best boss battle in all of Kingdom Hearts for me

And that fight and scene after a fight, ladies and gentelmen, are my favourite from all of this series. Gets me into tears every single time, no matter if I play or just watch.
This is honestly one of the best boss fights I've ever experienced mostly for the music lol. I always get goosebumps when the track starts to amp up, it's done SOOOOO well. It really defines Roxas as a character just through a song. God, this game is a masterpiece. 💜
The FM scene with Roxas & Axel sure does get a lot of people talking and gets them confused too. What are your theories to what the scene might be? I would love to hear them and other people can see too. (:
The roxas and Xemnas scene was when Sora became a heartless in KH1, and the Axel and Roxas scene took place after roxas returned to sora. This is confirmed by the final mix scene after roxas returns to him where Riku, Namine and Axel are all talking and Axel says he wants to go see someone, then he opens a portal, and the Roxas and Axel scene happens
I believe that scene is suppose to show what happens to Nobodies before they vanish and or join their original selves, hence the fading. However Roxas went back to Sora, also probably the reason why you get the Keyblade "two become one". Maybe Axel and Roxas wanted to talk before they parted ways. It was also there to show that Nobodies could grow hearts, and that's why Axel cries. Not sure, just guessing but it is a fantastic scene.
Nobodies do have hearts. They all have them in time, Xemnas just lied to them and make them think they didn't all along. All along Kingdom Hearts was just a trick to share Xemnas's original heart with the hearts of the original members of Organization XIII, however he knew there were some who weren't fit for the task so he let them get eliminated one by one. Xehanort is a cruel tactician.
This fight has been kicking my ass the past couple days and after watching this i've realized that there's so much i just haven't done, mainly leveling my drive forms to get movement abilities.
9:37 Never noticed before, but it sounds like Axel is fighting to hold it together and not cry. Looks away and mentions the ice cream to distract from his emotions.
That happens more frequently than you think considering I'm KH2 the only way to end the fight is with a move considered as a "finisher" and Sora only says those lines on finishers, I've ended fights myself with Sora landing the final blow saying "this is it!" Lol
Something i love about this fight is how if you block one of roxas' attacks, he loses balance and almost falls backwards. Like other bosses might recoil when an attack is blocked but Roxas straight up almost falls on his ass lol. It's a small detail but shows that as strong as roxas is, he still isn't as experienced as the other organization members.

Still don't understand how Roxas didn't know Sora can warp the keyblade in his hands when he's done it like a million times with the Organization 13
Roxas believed he was now in possession of the Keyblade since Sora got disarmed with it. He was shocked when Sora still managed to warp the Key back.
He was caught off guard, it’s really his second time fighting another Keyblade Wielder, aside from Xion unless he still forgotten that at this point
He himself didn’t realize the full capabilities of the Keyblade himself
Sure he can summon it in battle but he never thought he can do that too if it leaves his hands
He was sure he had Sora beat and let down his guard which is how Sora won
Roxas’ fighting style is aggressive compared to Sora, while Sora is more defensive and countering, so he had more of a mindset to think of a way to counter against a superior opponent
1:12 God I love it when a ramp up in musical scores matches with increased intensity of a battle.

The music in this fight is some of the best in the series, and with kingdom hearts, that's a huge compliment.
Just came here to say that this is one of the greatest scenes in all of gaming.
May your heart be your guiding key.
Easily one of the most emotional scenes in the series. Up there with Xion and Axel in front of the mansion, Riku and Sora's duel, and the entire ending of BBS
I've gotta be honest. This fight was the harshest difficulty spike I've seen all-time.
;_; Dammit Sora stop getting combo'd

dillon chennault even though how hard he is you have to admit this is the best boss fight in KH2
Gabriel Jacques And now... Roxas will be given a life. I think.
But his should exist as just much as sora he felt the pain and agony he no they deserve they're existence they're lives
Aqua. Thats all I'm gonna say
skaionex at least she's alive.
@@gratiaseia technically roxas isn't "dead" per say. He still obviously lives through sora in a way.
It's honestly not worth taking the keyblades since you can't block the sheer amount of bu- lasers he throws at you
In a way, it's sad that Sora won. Even though Sora's desire to save people did pave the way to give Roxas his own body
Imagine what Roxas was thinking when Sora stole his keyblades.
"I can't believe you… even my keyblades!? You take everything from me!"
@@jstar3382I will admit, Sora's desire to save others is indeed very admirable, but Roxas fighting to assert his personhood and right to exist is far in a way more heroic from a certain perspective, because he is literally saying "If my existence makes you uncomfortable, then fuck you!"
he was trying end Dora existence to do so
I will never understand why this was never in the original kh2
The developers don't understand that either. That's probably why they added it. :P

+Bale-e I know how you feel, buddy :'c
I can't wait for the scene when Roxas meets back up with Riku.
Sora: So Roxas said he defeated you.
Riku: Really? Because that's not quite what I remember.
Roxas: well you see, I defeated you and then you turned into the Heartless of Xehanort and then I lost. So technically I lost to Xehanort's Heartless not you. And technically that was your mind, Terra's Darkness and Master Xehanort's Heart so it was like 3 Keyblade users vs 1.
Riku said Roxas beat him tho
+orangeapples but there are Ventus's and Sora's heart in Roxas's mind,so that was 3 vs 3 wasn't it?
Not quite. Roxas is a part of Sora. But that doesn't mean Ventus and Sora are a part of Roxas. Confusingly enough, Ventus and Roxas are a part of Sora's heart.

idk maybe it was a flashback from roxas and sora :P
Heribert Padilla well it kinda doesnt make sense cuz they faded but whatever square enix has his reasons
When you touch hearts with others without protection this happens
Quite literally.
All of 358/2 days is worth it, just for letting that after battle scene exist.

the power of waking?
9:37 Never noticed before, but it sounds like Axel is fighting to hold it together and not cry. Looks away and mentions the ice cream to distract from his emotions.
We just boughta sleep on how for once sora says "it's over!" Then the fight actually ends? 3:40
That happens more frequently than you think considering I'm KH2 the only way to end the fight is with a move considered as a "finisher" and Sora only says those lines on finishers, I've ended fights myself with Sora landing the final blow saying "this is it!" Lol
And the perfect song timing as well...
This boss fight is so notorious for catching everyone off guard with its huge difficulty spike. At least for first time players.
