Rip Leon. He was very gracious and humble in defeat here. He was tweener. Not really a heavyweight , not light heavy. He struggled here to make 190. Anyway thanks Leon for what you did. Gold medal Olympics. Beat Ali. He struggled with life after boxing and passed. Qwai interesting fighter. Short and stocky. Respected his fighting style.
Leon was in incredible shape when he beat Ali. At anything less than that level of stamina, his terrible defense and inflexible brawling tactics made him a mark for any skillful opponent. I always loved Qawi. He s a tank. Nothing hurts him. That jab shows that a short guy can be an effective jabber…and that shark-like smile is both comical and menacing.
One thing Leon was doing right early on was moving laterally and using the ring. When he stood his ground, Dwight was all over him, and you're not going to win that exchange. Qwai was a tough as nails puncher-brawler, but one attribute he did not have was mobility. Dwight was like a tank on tracks. But he excelled with a stationary target.
Clearly, he took a lot from Frazier. But not so much bobbing and weaving. Qawi used the shoulder roll more. Plus, Qawi had an excellent jab and cross whereas Frazier was almost exclusively a hook puncher.
@@wheelinthesky300honestly that could be why on paper, his record is better than Frazier, simply because he used more punches instead of just using his Sunday punch
Braxton with that sneer/scowl was borderline Great as a light heavyweight , when he made the decision to move up in weight , thats when he lost that Aura of invincibility about him....
Feel sorry for Leon -good but not that great-Qawi is outstanding....wiki says Spinks became a wrestling champ in 92-a hardcore deal where they use barb wire and fire
I don't know how anyone can fight Qwai. He gives you no where to hit. He covers his head and body at the same time. Where can you hit him? You have to jab and keep the distance and get some points.
I think he was a potentially great fighter but not at Heavyweight. He was a very talented amateur but his dedication was lacking after he won the title. Also beating Ali so early on was way too much too soon. All that money and fame after so few fights was what wrecked him!!!
Too small for a heavy...too big for cruiser...shame. If they had extended cruiser up to 200 lbs, many small heavyweights could drop down there instead of taking on 240 lb heavies.
Love these classic fights

Very Well Said !
Qawi was a frightening force to be reckoned with.. powerful

No wonder Spinks had brain damage. This fight should've been stopped by the 2nd or 3rd round.
wow! great stuff. thank you, coach
I have to post: 'Leon Spunks' on every one of his fights
One thing Leon was doing
right early on was moving laterally and using the ring.
When he stood his ground, Dwight was all over him,
and you're not going to win that exchange.
Qwai was a tough as nails puncher-brawler,
but one attribute he did not have was mobility.
Dwight was like a tank on tracks.
But he excelled with a stationary target.
18:04 listen and tell me do you see and hear Qawi saying " SHIT " every time he hit Leon 🤣
Uh, no...

Man that dancin kiwi guy sure beat the neon out of that Leon fella.
Qawi always looked like he put serious hurt on his opponents
THIS FIGHT SHOULD VE BEEN STOPPED IN THE 2ND OR 3RD RD
RIP James Shuler RIP Spinks
holyfield during the post fight interview with leon
20:04 Qawi was in the zone
I don't know that Qawi had a lot of punching power, but he was rugged and durable, and could wear an opponent down.
Leon was a super cool boxer! U.S. Marine, Olympian, Heavyweight Champion, he beat The Greatest Ali! So friendly and real! He's missed.
Humble best boxer
Ref stopped the Foreman Frazier fight too soon.
Qawi - Holyfield is the greatest cruiser weight fight ever
Qawi had the Joe Frazier style.
Clearly, he took a lot from Frazier.
But not so much bobbing and weaving.
Qawi used the shoulder roll more.
Plus, Qawi had an excellent jab and cross
whereas Frazier was almost exclusively a hook puncher.

I heard Leon's fighting cancer now Hope he's doing good

For the Junior Light Less Heavy Semi-heavyweight title...
Why is Leon spinks in the hall
Of fame?
😂 when leon spink speaks.. ..especially when waking up from bed ... ask him who won congress seat for new mexico
Feel sorry for Leon -good but not that great-Qawi is outstanding....wiki says Spinks became a wrestling champ in 92-a hardcore deal where they use barb wire and fire

Spinks was never a great fighter but he certainly had heart. Just not enough skill.
I think he was a potentially great fighter but not at Heavyweight. He was a very talented amateur but his dedication was lacking after he won the title. Also beating Ali so early on was way too much too soon. All that money and fame after so few fights was what wrecked him!!!
Funny thing to say about an Olympic Gold Medalist and Heavyweight Champ that he was "never" great. He just squandered it real quick.
Too small for a heavy...too big for cruiser...shame. If they had extended cruiser up to 200 lbs, many small heavyweights could drop down there instead of taking on 240 lb heavies.
I'm a fan of both but this is not prime Spinks. He was 13lbs heavier vs Ali but looked in better shape.
2 situações nessa luta Leon apanhava a outra tomava porrada...🤣 o arbitro agiu certo Preservando a vida de Leon
Dwight Hakakakawi was good.
Dwight Hakawi was good.
Db was a bad little dude
PRE STEROID Holyfield was there
Dwight WhereTheHeckawi was good.
Mills Lane did a horrible job. Leon had trouble making weight and Lane let Qawi bang him with low blows. It took Leon's legs and dropped his hands.
QAWI my fav fighter
SPINKS WAS NOTHING!
