You know a fight was really, really good when 40 years later, as you're watching the video replay of it, that you not only don't want to fast forward any of it, but you don't even want to pause it to get yourself a beverage.

I was at this fight and thought it would be another Qawi wipeout but Davis was tough as nails and picked himself up and made it a competitive fight. The undercard was strong with Mustafa Hamsho beating Bobby Czyz everyway possible. Czyz was totally outclassed by the veteran.

Of course Pacheco couldn't shut his mouth during the ENTIRE second round after calling it wrong about stopping it in the first. That said, Davis corner should not have let him go back out for the 11th as he was clearly tapped out at the end of the 10th and had NO chance of anything but being hurt in the next round (of course he was then stopped). Ref stopped it at the right time. Davis won 11 of his next 14 fights, losing only to Spinks, Marvin Johnson and Donnny Lalonde (in his prime would have beaten Lalonde). Excellent fighter who came along in his division's best era and wasn't quite at the level of the champs. Sort of a Jerry Quarry guy...

What in the H was Davis doing from 11:00 until he got dropped (in the 1st); he starts getting shellacked but just leaves his feet planted and leans down into the shorter guys shots. Of course he got dropped! Heaven forbid he would have beck-pedaled or moved lateral and jabbed. Then in the latter half of the 10th he stayed in the corner and turned sideways to Qawi with his left arm at his waist giving him the side of a barn to hit. The fight should have been stopped then as made so painfully obvious by the instant stoppage in the 11th.
