Loved your vlog! I’m really curious: 1. Did it take you a while to settle into this routine? 2. Have you ever had burnouts and just wanted to stop for a while? 3. What keeps you motivated to keep learning? Have you hit any plateaus?
Hi my friend, thanks for your questions. 1.I did take some time to finally find this routine. Finally I don't feel so stressed when I feel I'm not progressing because I just focus on the daily study then let time speak, it's very important psychologically. 2.Of course I do, that's why I prefer to do it less but regularly, for some languages I will just maintain the level and focus on others at a certain period. 3. The source of motivation is self-confidence, like I have a clear plan and I know how long it will take me to achieve the result I want if I study like this. It is very hard to feel progress after an intermediate level and it is always frustrating. Sometimes I change my routine or method to boost my interest. So it's important to have a toolbox of methods to be able to change and reboot your motivation. I like your questions, feel free if you have more, I could do a video to talk about it.
@@zoe.languages Will follow your journey on TH-cam and ask if I have more! English and Chinese are my main languages. I know a very basic French (learned for fun years ago when boredom striked), and now I'm picking up Japanese. Really inspiring to see how each person picks up a new language
@@zoe.languages I think you have a beautiful comfortable apartment, with lots of books and well decorated. That helps a lot, to have a nice home ambience. It's not the case for everybody. I prioritize reading 3 books a month, one in English, one in French, one in Spanish. That's more or less, all I have time to do. But I've been doing it for years. If I can put a movie on in the original language, that's also helpful. And as I am cooking and cleaning, I listen to documentaries in those languages too. This girl puts in a lot of hours. Very impressive indeed. I would like to learn russian, but it's a question of finding the time
When reading this comment, it felt like it was written by me 😄 somehow I do exactly the same things with learning french and Spanish unless that with Russian I need only huge amounts of motivation and will as my boyfriend is native, but I have only learnt simple phrases.
I think when you have a full time job working 40-50 hours a week and have family obligations, this would be a difficult schedule-I have to realize that it’s going to take me a lot longer
For those that interested to learn a new language, I would like to suggest a 15/30/15 method. So basically, 15mins review of yesterday lesson (in the morning), 30mins new lesson (after lunch), and 15 mins review of today lesson (in the evening). I had done this at least 3 days a week. Most important thing is consistency. You don't want to start on full spirit and then stop learning halfway. Change your learning material between TH-cam, podcasts and books(change ur method everytime u feels boring or unmotivativated). Best wishes from me. Happy Learning !
Actually that is veryyy true.I will use my example; I am learning german for 5 years now.I had to pick it bcs of my school(in Poland apart from english we have to pick another one) I am not saying I dont enjoy learning this but I am not super passionate/there are no many reasons I would like to speak it.On the other hand I am self-studying korean.Oh my!!!That was the best decision I have ever made.I love absolutely everything about Korea and Korean. That is why even after studying for ar 9 months my korean is much better than my german and I feel more comfortable speaking it.Why?Because I trurly enjoy studying it and coming back from school only thing I have on my mind is "I CAN FINALLY STUDY KOREAN" Remember guys, enjoy the PROCESS,be GENTLE and PATIENT.Progress will come, slowly even if you dont feel like progressing:)화이팅!❤❤❤❤
Whoa 4h languages per day - I totally get now how you can become so good/fluent so fast, it's really impressive and motivating to see how much work you put into studying these languages!
You are a great inspiration 10 years ago I had begun to study French, Korean, German and Arabic. I thought I did pretty well, but then into my life came depression and all results turned into dust, now I'm battling my depression and trying to remember everything I knew and learn more. I wrote a schedule and decided to take international exams in 6 languages next October-December. I think your tips will help me a lot, I'll try to incorporate language learning in my daily life as succesful as you did. Hello from Ukraine
Dear Christina, I don't think all the languages you learned have turned to dust, they are still in your brain! I think you will pick them up quickly if you study regularly. I wish you good luck with those exams. I'm glad my video gives you energy ;) Bon courage❤️
i agree, you will not have lost everything, not at all. I studied spanish at school (I am a french arab) without ever going to spain as a kid and then, as an adult, i realise I could understand and communicate in spanish without problems. It is like biking, you can't lose everything, it is just a question of practice. Good luck!
Yo she took my beaniee !! Learning 4 languages at the same time is hard and also rewarding if u can keep up the routine. Imagine seeing your futureself talking as fluently as native speaker u can only be proud of urself. Just keep up the good vibes, be grateful for every step u ve processed! Spending times isnt for everyone if they have their own priorities, same applies to me. I dunno its kinda complex in my case. Whatever just keep up spending ur time preciously :) cheers!
Thank you for the supportive comment. I really hope I can reach native speaker level in these four languages and I don't plan to learn new language at the moment. I know everyone's situation is different, sometimes I feel like I should be grateful that I can spend time learning things like this and there is no reason not to work harder. I hope you can get some positive vibes from here Cheers!
I figured I'd share my study routine to maybe inspire someone like me to study a language by themselves - I am a teen in highschool, very busy (school is exausting) and besides that I have very limited time because of other activities. I study English (it's not my native language) and German in school and Korean, Spanish and Mandarin Chinese by myself. For polishing my English I don't do much honestly; almost all I watch I watch in English or with English subtitles, so that's one way of learning, I read books in English (and always highlight, translate and explain the meaning of a word I don't know) and I repeat a lot of words to polish my accent. The best thing to study English for me was to buy a Dictionary of Contemporary English and learn new words from there from time to time. I have a hard time learning German so I don't really do that out of school, but one thing I found helpful is flash cards. For Korean, Spanish and Mandarin Chinese it's kind of the same deal. I try to study each of these languages at least once a week from 0,5 to around 2 hrs. I always start by going on apps like Duolingo and doing some lessons there. When I do that, I write every single word, even if I know it already. I memorize and learn a lot by writing and re-writing stuff, so that's helpful, especially with Chinese, because I don't know many characters - I started learning it at the beginning of this year. Then I go one to watch some TH-cam videos in the language I'm studying (if channels I follow didn't post anything new I just type "[language] youtubers with english subtitles" and find something suitable lol). After that I watch a show in that language on Netflix. I always watch the same episode twice, once with subtitles in English and once in subtitles in the language I'm studying. When I know I don't have time to study one (or sometimes even all) of the languages in a week, in my spare time (15 minutes should be enough) I write myself notes in that language. It can be full out essay (English), basic sentences (German, Korean & Spanish) or random words I know (Chinese). Then I go on and try to speak out loud stuff I recently learned to recap. I also listen to A LOT of music in the languages I wanna learn. At this point I'm not even listening to music in my native language lol Thanks for coming to my TEDtalk, I hope I inspired someone, sorry for any mistakes - English isn't my first language. Also remember, learning a language takes a lot of time, is a constant effort, so be patient with yourself. I'm a living example that even if you don't have much time you can still find time to study what you want a bit. Keep fighting
Your Arabic accent is really good and I was super impressed by the fact that you’re able to ready those articles, since they’re pretty advanced. Keep on going, this was really motivating for me !!
Zoe, you are one of my absolute FAVOURITE Polyglots. I know you prefer not that term but I think you are a true polyglot, you do not delve into 20 or 30 languages at surface level you take it seriously and enjoy the process. I really appreciate and admire that. And you've inspired me so much, omg your Arabic and Persian!! OUT of this world!! I feel like giving up on Arabic. I live in iraq and plan to study in jordan for about a week long programme. But it's just too hard =( anyway, it makes German look easy!
I find your method very interesting, I have been struggling with french, even though I can read and understand most of it but I struggle a lot with speaking and writing but now I'm motivated to try your techniques because they seem very simple and easy and not so overwhelming. I will try to apply them in my daily routine and I will definitely give you my feedback. Also your Arabic is very good and cute 👌. You gained a New subscriber.
Hi, this is a really helpful video. My native language is Spanish, and my second language is English, but as you've said you never stop learning, so I practice my English everyday, however, I've been studying Japanese, and French for a few months, the problem is that I didn't know how to fit them on my schedule because I'm at college as well, and I suffer depression, so I had had really low periods of time when I barely practiced my English, and anything else. So this video is perfect for me because I'm gonna be able to focus on my learning journey on French, and Japanese, and at the same time make an equal balance between them, in that way I keep it up, and advance through it little by little without overwhelming my mind, I kind of do the same practice routine of English as the one that you do with podcasts, and articles related to the news in the language. Besides now I just have to apply them into the other two languages, you've given me the idea, Thank you so much. I aspire to be like you soon.
I also learn three languages together (English, Spanish and Korean) but I couldn't manage my time to study all in one day. Now, I'm going to try your methods. Thank you dear Zoe ❤
Love your videos! I'm picked up some useful tips and I hope I can use it to improve my 3rd language (Japanese) after years of slow progress. I really appreciate that you're honest to show that it takes a lot of hard work (3-4 hrs of study every day!) and passion to be fluent in many languages. It's really heartwarming how much you also really really love learning languages!
I'm glad to see your video in my recommendation I'm also learning languages at the same time yours is 4 while mine is 2 (Japanese and Malaysian). There are times I gave up due to my laziness and lack of motivation but I still try my best to go back to my routine. It is rewarding when you finally learn even just a simple sentence.
Thank you for letting us into your life Zoe. I find your videos very inspiring. I am currently working on Romanian. It is enjoyable to plan your schedule around how to learn a language most effectively.
Bravo zoe! You are really inspiring, i love languages so much and being a polyglot is one of my main goals. I am Egyptian so i speak Arabic. I also speak english fluently and learned some basics of different languages but almost forgot. Now i study dutch since i live in netherlands. I will do mandarin and french one day.
Good luck for french, the grammar is hard but it's a beautiful language, when your level will be good, I recommand you to watch videos from the youtube channel "Ina société". It's the archives of french television, there are so many report and interview of french people in different epoch and different subjects, so it's really good to understand the evolution of french mentality and culture.
Thank you, Ms.. I have been thinking of my own learning style as the only thing in the world. But now I started knowing that I am not alone after watching your video. Your training programmes are more intensive than what I am doing. Thank you again for your demonstrated informative video.
you're incredible ! Thank you for sharing, I talk Arabic, French and I'm learning English. I live in an english country, it's not easy though, especially because of the pandemic. I'm speachless but lookig at your perseverance and routines, it makes me more confident and i'll keep going. Thanks a lot !
Hey!! zoe I discovered your channel in these days and ı loved so much and ı wanna share my memory with you so I heard something about learning different languages from my friends, they said 'ooh so you want improve your english it's easy go find yourself a native english speaker as a friend'. And ı was like 'how can ı find bla bla'. But your tactis so better than my friends said. and your turkish is very good ı really like that as a turkish, thank you for inspiring mee xoxo
Hey Zoe, I can't get enough of your videos! Thank you for breaking down your learning routine it's really super helpful. Can you please advise on a routine for beginner language learners, so, for example, I'm learning French and when I try to read a short article to learn new vocabulary everything is too new and confusing and I find that my recall is not really good, and I followed your advice in terms of having a plan, and I have some activities for speaking, listening and writing but I find reading to be super challenging. Thanks! Keep up the great work
Hello dear. You'd better try to find content that suits your level (make sure you understand at least 50%), don't burn out at first. If you are a beginner, begin with some basic grammar and vocabulary. Hope it will be helpful ❤️
Hey Zoe, I hope you are doing well. I have recently picked up an interest in learning a new language and decided to learn Arabic. After coming across your channel, I feel really inspired to go on this journey which will not be easy but rewarding 😊 Please keep up the videos as I’m looking forward to them, especially the vlogs! Thank you for the tips you’ve given on Languages 🙏🏼
Hello form Colombia, i am Fanny and i can speak advanced japanese ans basic chineses, now i am learning Korean and your videos are so amazing, i have been learning a lot this time with you, thank yoy very much.
I am a Chinese, you are brilliant! You can learn so many languages at the same time. I only learn English and I'm not good at learning. My first time watching your vlog, I actually understood a lot of it. It's amazing me. I will learn from you.you are my role model
Thank you for this video!! You have truly inspired me. I am currently attending college learning American Sign Language 🤟 and I have recently decided to learn French.
Hi Zoe. I'm Lucy. I'm Italian. I study English every day and I study Spanish twice a week. Your study routine is so useful. You are an excellent student. Thanks for this vlog . I'm sorry for my mistakes. Bye
That's a very interesting approach! I actually used to do the similar with three languages - improving English in the morning, German in the afternoon, and French before sleep. But now with all these moving things I must learn Czech asap, and I really don't want to stop with Japanese, so I'm gonna try your routine with some adaptations. Thank you ^^
As an English student myself I only read in English, the same with movies and series in order to work on my listening. I think that learning English or any other language is a neverending process.I am an Spanish and Catalan native speaker. Took me years of nerdy isolation to achieve the level I have, because my job is becoming more universal everyday. Have a nice weekend. Subscribed by the way, very nice video.
Hi Zoe you supporting me to start in a learn new languages I am in my college start to learn Turkish and I think I'm in a good situation this language now I'm also speak English and Arabic is mother tongue but you support me to learn another languages so I'm now trying to learn Spanish and this is I think cuz I'm seeing you moving between the languages and I think this is phenomenal so thank you very much

So enlightening thank u! It is so hard balancing languages. I try but it gets overwhelming at times. I feel so much pressure to read, speak, listen and write as best I can, but also make sure I know about certain nuances about culture too. I love Easy Italian🇮🇹❤️After 2 years of not practicing rigorously, I’m taking up Mandarin again. Hopefully with the new tests coming out I can pass level 5 加油😊 Your language ability is very impressive! This video helped me form a new language plan that I can work with without sacrificing too much. 多谢谢🙏

❤️❤️wish you good luck!
ما تقدمينه يعطيني الطاقة ويجعلني أكثر تركيزاً،
حقاً أنتي رائعه!
I appreciate your enthusiasm of learning languages!
I think the main motivation for Zoe for all that is her passion .. she seems happy while learning langauges 😊
zoe hayallerimde olmak istediğim kadınsın gerçekten birçok kişiye ilham oluyorsun
Freut mich, dass du mit solchem Elan Deutsch lernst! Weiter so/加油!

انت ملهمة حقًا❤
انا عربية من مصر وأحب تعلمك للغة العربية ونطقك الجميل بها🤩
I'm Turkish who is in France and trying to learn French at the same time with Arabic :) and I know English :) Liked ur page . Ty
Thank you, Ms..
I have been thinking of my own learning style as the only thing in the world. But now I started knowing that I am not alone after watching your video. Your training programmes are more intensive than what I am doing.
Thank you again for your demonstrated informative video.
Zoe, you are such an inspiration to so many people, thank you for Sharing your learning experience and wishing you all the best in life!
Aferin gız sana!
If you can understand this senatance, you are already intermediate in Turkish :)

I'm speachless but lookig at your perseverance and routines, it makes me more confident and i'll keep going. Thanks a lot !
Keep going ❤️💪👍
Stunningly so productive, hopefully you will do more vlogs 'cause it's so motivation
Girl i just found you! Thank you for existing ❤🔥✨✨
The most important thing in learning a language is that you enjoy it instead of getting migrane thinking about learning it in 6 months

Hey!! zoe I discovered your channel in these days and ı loved so much and ı wanna share my memory with you so I heard something about learning different languages from my friends, they said 'ooh so you want improve your english it's easy go find yourself a native english speaker as a friend'.
You are my motivation ❤ I was frustrated because I always tought you should learn one language after another
As a turkish speaker I must say you're quite good!!! 😄
Love your channel and tips. Also its great to see a non-western, female polyglot!
Bye
Thanks Zoe!! You have encouraged me to continue on practicing and learning french and dutch!
Bon courage ❤️

多谢谢🙏

Great video really helpful. I'm learning ASL and Spanish, I know a little bit of Italian and a little bit of my native language Cherokee. but I been focusing more on Spanish and ASL because of where I live Spanish is everywhere and there's people of the hoh and deaf communities around. Like you mentioned you love languages and I definitely have a passion for languages I just remind myself to always make learning fun so who I do my learning routine I stay motivated I always want to feel happy in my language learning. You are amazing. You mentioned Arabic years go I was a Muslim for a while and I had to learn some Arabic because as a Muslim then the Quran is in Arabic and we had to pray in Arabic. English is my first tongue but I always wanted to get away from English and it's nice to be able to. Keep up the good work and language learners like you are very inspiring
