I'm so excited for you learning Norwegian! I fell in love with Scandinavian languages long ago and for next year one of my language goals is to finally get back to the Danish level I was when I first studied it, and then to hopefully extend it. I wish you luck and all the best in the coming year (even if it may be too soon for that haha)! One thing is for sure, you will continue to inspire me!

@Anna Aww, thank you! Your comment made me so happy. (: I think Danish is the most interesting of the 3 bigger Scandinavian languages, and I never regretted choosing it over Norwegian or Swedish. I think it deserves more credit or at least attention, I feel like it's really underrated. So I will keep trying to convert more people to it haha.

I loved seeing your thought process as you crafted your plan! You’ve given me lots of ideas. One thing I’ve been doing is jotting down things I’ve noticed are weaknesses in my languages so I can target them next year. I really want to work on numbers in Spanish because I am not comfortable with dates, time etc. I told someone I was born in 1776 🤣🤣🤣

For 2022, my main goal was to get somewhere around a B2 level in Swedish. That didn't happen, but I'm happy with the progress I've been making, as well as enjoying the journey. I dabbled in several other languages this year and spent some time with Zulu, Bulgarian, and Arabic. Definitely going to be working on them more in 2023, although since I'll be moving to Bulgaria next year, shouldI really be focusing on Bulgarian. It's so hard to stick with just one or two languages! 😁

    My goals are:
    > Japanese : Finish my other N4 textbook and get half-way through N3 (maybe attend JLPT N4)
    > Vietnamese: Reach a confident A2 level
    > Korean: Reach A1 level

  • @corinna007

My goal is to put more effort into my language studies. According to Finnishpod101 my Finnish is at B2, and I think my German is around the same (maybe a bit lower), but I still struggle with holding a conversation and thinking of words when I try speaking them. So I want to improve my confidence and really get better at actually speaking.

Thank you for this video, it inspired me to try my own quarterly language plan in 2023. I went from learning 4-5 languages actively aside from my native and english to 0 for close to 2 years ago because life can get so unpredictable. But it has been a while and I am ready to face my fears of forgetting all the basics! Time to get back into something that truly gave me joy (: Best of luck and have fun everyone

As a Hungarian, I'm so happy that you're learning my language! It's one of the hardest languages to learn, that's why very few people want to learn it. I'm glad that you're one of them :) Judging from your latest video in Hungarian, your speaking skills are already incredible! I could totally imagine you having fluent conversations with native speakers. I hope you will reach all of your language goals, and I'm hoping to see another Hungarian video from you in the future!❤️

Jej! Lykke til med norsk! I learned to B1 level while living in Norway during the pandemic, it is very easy to get started in for speakers of Germanic languages because a lot of the vocab is the same, but some of the grammar threw me for a loop (like there being no definite article, but rather it is demonstrated with a suffix on the noun). Things also get a little messy with different dialects in terms of understanding the spoken word (and written word for the areas that use the Nynorsk spelling system). I'm not a particularly advanced language learner though so I'm sure you will be just fine with all those quirks!.

I am still trying to figure out how to plan my goals for my languages next year. Currently I have a 6 days a week approach. Monday - Spanish. Tuesday - Irish. Wednesday - French. Thursday- Japanese. Friday - Indonesian. Saturday- German. I have literature and TH-camrs for my other three languages that I always keep up with when they update (Latin. ASL. Esperanto.) My only goals right now are to get through my text books for each language, read my fiction books, do my job, and maybe keep conversations going with friends in these languages.

Next year I really want to focus on improving my Korean and preparing for the Topik 1 exam. I plan to take the exam in October. I will have study actively on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. On Tuesday and Thursday I will have classes on italki. On Monday and Wednesday I will ready Korean short stories and watch podcasts in Korean. I also want to try to engage in one language exchange each week to become more comfortable speaking with native speakers.

I'm learning english and japanese. I read books in english and manga in japanese. I hear songs in both languages I write sentences and compositions with slangs, expressions, and words I see for the very first time. I watch dramas, movies, anime, and interviews of actors and singers because I need to practice the hearing in both languages. when I watch your videos sometimes I don't get you very well D; so I repeat it and turn on the subtitles in english. In japanese, I'm trying to read kanji no furigana I copy lyrics songs by hand to practice my writing as well. I prefer tategaki and read japanese from the right to the left I use furigana only with the words I can't read if it appears twice or more I just write kanji. To write my vocabulary I use drawing, synonyms, and antonyms to avoid translating in my language or english in the case I'm going over japanese. By the way, I'd like to learn more languages as you I'm interested in korean, chinese, russian, arabic, hindi, hebrew, and germany. 😃

I was learning Dutch before I wanted to pick up Norwegian, but hand to put Dutch back on the self because I kept using ik (Dutch) for jeg (Norwegian). 😅 But Norwegian is beautiful for sure, hoping to get something under my belt before I visit possibly this summer. Thanks for making this! I really like the "ideal week" idea, especially if you're juggling multiple languages at once. It motivated me to make a plan for 2023 as well. The video is in Spanish, but it's an imitation/application of your method. ขอบคุณมากครับ

I really enjoyed this video Lindie! I know now how to better approach my language learning journey for next year. I've been alternating each month with my preferred language, but I like the quarterly idea better. This way, I can really focus on that one particular language whilst working on two other language with less of an intensity. I just recently discovered you and absolutely LOVE your whole idea of learning languages for FUN. I do it because I love languages firstly but also because it truely is a gateway into learning about other people's cultures and worlds. Everything can't come from a book - we have to learn to reach out to people who live and speak differently then we do to REALLY get an understanding of who they are!! Thank you so much!! 🙂 and I hope you're having a nice week!!

I love this approach. It has a nice organization and strategy to be spontaneous as you said. I will follow up some of these tips for sure. Thanks Lindie!

Looks great! Inspires me to be more structured and organized with my language learning goals for this year. Mainly going to focus on Japanese, Korean, Thai, and maybe Spanish, as well as maintaining Mandarin.

Ngl I was shocked and happy to hear u mention Malay in your lists! xD I'm a native speaker and yes I do agree that Malay and Indonesian have alot of similar words, so u shouldn't feel all that bad about mixing those two up.

Hi Lindie, do you understand Dutch since you speak Afrikaans? I’m just curious since they are pretty similar. When you started counting I thought you spoke Dutch, then I was like oh Afrikaans sound similar to Dutch.

Loved the video lindie! Next year my main languages will continue being Italian and Korean with my sub languages being Japanese and Chinese. Super baby steps with those last two as I really want to focus on my main two 👍. I so enjoy your language journal videos!! I’m excited to plan mine now too!!

You use the Taiwanese Mandarin book? Me too! Super rare.
    Good luck with your year.
I start my year on my birthday, December 15. So I have already started my language plan. New languages are Taiwanese Hokkien and Thai. As I only need Taiwanese as a backup for Mandarin, I am not too focused on it. I just want to get a solid base. For Thai, I want to be comfortable enough to watch TV and read books. So high B1, low B2 at the minimum.
I live in Japan and I swore off JLPT in 2014. Already have N2, but I am extremely tempted to go for N1 in the next year. I have B1 certification in TOCFL, the Taiwanese Mandarin test. Will be polishing up my Mandarin after Taiwanese and Thai settle down a bit. Plan to make a TH-cam channel to keep up my old languages, mainly French and Spanish, which I have a degree in, but never use. I should probably do something about my Korean. I have been at basic communication level for years. My Japan bestie is Korean and I always feel guilty that he has to speak Japanese with me.

A célom 7 nyelv, az első hat már megvan, 7.-nek valami cirill betűset szeretnék, de még várok pár évet, valószínüleg a bolgár lesz majd. Ha mégsem, akkor alkotok egy saját conlang-ot. 😁
