  • Defunct Games reviews Horror Tales: The Wine, available July 30 on PlayStation 4, Switch, Xbox One and PC.
The first of several Horror Tales, The Wine is an intoxicating mix of social commentary and survival horror. The disease-ravaged Mediterranean island is the perfect setting for a story filled with fear and paranoia. The first-person adventure is at its best when our desperate hero explores the eerily empty capital city and pieces the story together, but the fun is threatened by repetitive puzzles and overused chase scenes. The Wine is worth drinking for the topical story, masterful level designs and the fun platforming puzzles, but a few frustrating missteps will leave you with an annoying hangover in the morning.

Not sure why, but the setting reminds me of MYST. When you have a combat system you ask yourself if you go into the fight or not. This helps a lot in a horror game.

Did you take a deep dive into the accessibility options? In his previous game Infernium there was an option to slow down (or entirely remove) the enemies if you just wanted to explore the world and solve puzzles. There might be a similar feature in The Wine.

I can't find the option to remove the enemy

Yeah seems like if you're going to do walking sim or chase sim you have to commit to one. Going back and forth would throw me off.
    QOTD, water.

Looks interesting, and price on Steam, not too bad. May have to strongly consider this one. As for the question, I'm normally very focused on the game, but those few times either between games, or have to pause long enough to drink, guess soda would be it.

Looks kinda interesting, might pick it up in a sale one day. I usually drink a beer or two during game sessions.

I'm kinda tired of horror games where you just need to run from the enemies. In PS2 era we got few games where you don't have gun,but instead you have dog or something to distract the enemies. I find it way more scary when I don't know to run or fight the monster, but when only option is running it starts to get repetitive very fast. QOTD I drink juice or something like that when I play games, nothing fancy.

This game starts off interesting, then slopes fast into annoyance, where you just want it to be over with, and fast.

Damn, the setting, looks and story are all up my alley, but running away from an unbeatable enemy is the most boring game mechanic ever made. It was scary in Amnesia, but everything ever since is just frustrating. QOTD: Just boring old water. Good for the kidneys, tho!
