Illinois Defense backs were excellent it’s the much hyped front 7 who had a bad game in my opinion. I hope they aren’t reading the press about how good they are supposed to be. They need to play better
Toledo is good. No shame here. But we made too many mistakes that kept them in the game. Impressed with Altmeyer and his ability to make a play when he knows he's gonna get hit.
Toledo's offensive line was very solid, have to give them credit they are a better team than I gave them credit for. Toledo is going to win a lot of games this year. I knew this was going to be a big test for the Illini and it was, great eye opener. They should be able to build on this win for the next one vs. Kansas.
I like Illinois as a Top 3 Dark Horse in the Big Ten and making it to a nice Bowl Game. I like the style of how the QB Plays. 2 good receivers and the running game can get better but it's fair but then Illinoi's Defense was good. Don't forget Toledo was the Champ of the MAC. Let's not sleep on teams. You saw Colorado. Team Coach Prime. Love it. I'm routing for a couple dark horses and a couple of top schools: Illinois, Texas, Oklahoma and ill keep the 4th dark horse if y'all like to ask. Lol

They always schedule @ least ONE team on their Non Con schedule, that punches ABOVE their weight. Fifth longest win streak in NCAA History, achieved in the late 60s (38-39 ?) games. They have a winning Bowl record. Both Gary Pinkel, & Nick Saban have Head Coached there. While I would have preferred they win Sat. night, they FOUGHT HARD, and didn't disappoint. As Illinois fan I’m going to say we got lucky. We could have easily loss this game. Illinois came out flat not ready to play Defensive and Offensive line got pushed around. The front 7 of Illinois was mediocre at best. Need more toughness and pressure if we are going to win against Big 10 teams. Running game needs to improve offensive line needs major improvement. Running backs are mediocre at best. Luke was good receivers were good Defensive Backs and safety were good. Special teams were excellent Everyone else needs work
I agree the defensive line did not play well. I will in their defense say I thought the new D coordinator was way way too passive. Saw way to many 3 man rushes that put no pressure on Finn he just sat back there and waited for receivers to get open or took off running and was 5 yards down field before another defender could get to him.
Keep in mind that a Big 10 program that’s expecting to take a serious step forward and be competitive in the conference shouldn’t have much trouble beating a MAC team at home
I wish they showed the roughing the passer that gave Toledo a free set of down on the goal line. I was at the game and no replay was played at all. Great way to start the season with a W but I hope we improve over the next few game. ILL

I thought Illinois' decision in the third quarter to go for 2 was a bad decision (I am not saying that because it failed as I thought it was a bad decision before they ran the play). They are lucky Toledo's failed at its 2-point attempt in the third quarter. Had Toledo made it, then Illinois would have needed more than a field goal to win the game. At least through the first three quarters, go for the 1 point.
