I think part of why people burn out on smash ultimate is; Every character is just trying to more or less cheese you. The game becomes turn based, players positioning to get their bread butter and cheese off to gain a lead. And I feel like it's only an issue BECAUSE Sakurai tried to make the game more competitive. "Give everyone some little combo thingy, or invincible move."
I've yet to hit burnout due to starting Ultimate a long time after everyone else (didn't own a switch at the time), never having the confidence to play quickplay much or jump into arenas on top of no one to vs offline (so didn't play it as much as you'd expect) and mostly ignore the meta because I like playing random and have a lot of time on Ganondorf. A friend of mine on the other hand is being majorly burnt out and I personally believe its because of the habit of playing quickplay even after he tells us he wants to play the game less, it ends up with him wanting to play with the group we have less often because he's already felt he's played too much already. Doesn't help that the people in the group are the type that aren't pro's but refuse to play with items on and treat modes like stamina as if its a crime against humanity (even though I like it).
I really good at not getting burnt out (because I’m autistic hahaha). Because I art as a job it’s very important to cycle around your hobbies. I only play 1-2 hrs of smash a day and attend a local. And if I feeling unwell I don’t play any at all.
Imo smash ult is just boring as fuck. Patiently waiting for Rivals 2. It feels like smash is a boring chess game sometimes instead of a fast paced platform fighter filled with creativity and hype play. Also doesn't help that the dlc characters are WAY overtuned. Some characters are just bad for no reason and got left in the dust.

I haven’t played this game for 6 months and now when I try to play, I can’t play for more than 30 minutes at a time
