    For people worried about power: A few months ago I was in the same boat as you. I wanted the Crosstrek but kept on looking at other options because of the lack of power. I didn’t find anything I liked as much as the Subaru, so I went to the dealership and drove it and it wasn’t bad at all, better then the HRV, plus it handles great and the CVT feels like an automatic. I decided to go through with it and bought a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek Premium w Eyesight with the CVT. Now after having the car for two months and putting around 3000 miles on it I can say it has plenty of power and the power does open up after break in. Don’t let the power stop you from buying this car, unless you want a sports car then this is an excellent little crossover. If I listened to some of the comments on these TH-cam videos then I wouldn’t have gotten the Crosstrek, and I can say after 3,000 miles with the Crosstrek that I wouldn’t have been as happy with any other car.

      J.D. Turner Yeah it’s still a slow car but all the cars in this segment are slow as well. Actually it is one of the faster cars in the segment according to Motor Trend. www.motortrend.com/cars/subaru/crosstrek/2018/no-mans-land/ Congratulations on reserving a Crosstrek though.

      Most commenters (or car enthusiasts) don't actually buy the cars they're commenting on. They probably just regurgitate out what they read online from other commenters are saying.
      I test drove an Impreza a week ago, and it was nothing like they say regarding the power. It has plenty of power, for passing on freeway, going uphill from a stop,... Crosstrek is similar, I figure.

      I test drove the BMW X 1, X 2 and X, 3, Mercedes GLA loaded, Toyota rav 4 and CHR (non all wheel drive) Honda HRV- which was nice just not high enough clearance ! Nissan sport rogue, rogue all trim levels, and Hyundai all wheel drives, and than Subaru crosstrek limited and WITHOUT reservation bought it the same day! The only difference was it was HIGH off the ground all the way around, felt like a Mercedes, drove like a BMW (handling) fit and finish were better than honda and toyota or about the same, The all wheel drive with X dirve (BEAST MODE) was extremely good (yes they let me test that feature out when i asked) and did NOT scrape going over a surface with about a 8 inch raised curb! I understand this is not a JEEP wrangler or a Range Rover (which i drove both:) the POWER output is LESS by FAR, HOWEVER, with the EXCELLENT gas mileage, EXCELLENT and BEST crash testing as expected by subaru and FULL suite of safety i sight tech (cannot even explain- it beats out TOYOTA safety package 2.0! (maybe the same) the street signs show up in the dash! SOLD!
      P.S. my brother and his wife just bought a Subaru crosstrek also:) They only have driven jaguars in the past!
      I did weigh in the up keep (maintenance) which was VERY low for the subaru if you do he basic maintenance and do NOT 4x4 seriously with it. The engine bay was the only one where you can easily reach everything in plain sight to include the oil filter on top of the engine:) WOW:)
      I did like the MERCEDES star that was lighted on front- BUT EVENTUALLY i would NOT like the 300 oil changes etc-haha (of course, if your well to do thats great for you)

      It’s power is just right and yields very high mileage with 4WD and drives beautifully! Did a highway only test last week using cruise control set at 80mph and got over 40 MPG highway consistently.

    I bought a 2019 Jeep Cherokee for my wife because we have had a few in the past and liked them and after a few months driving with the total lack of power and some computer issues that scared my wife to the point that she was afraid to drive it I started to shop for a replacement (for my peace of mind) What originally attracted me to Subaru was the Outback. but after going through every model they had we kept coming back to the Crosstrek. So we picked the one we were interested in and test drove it. My main concern was power to pull out in traffic without the doggyness of the jeep. When we were done I was impressed with anything from the responsiveness to the creature comforts and handling. We have had it for over a month now and my wife loves it. I don't get to drive it much but I do like it myself. I think it is the best bang for the buck out there.

    I just bought a 2019 Crosstrek and I love it. It handles beautifully the power is not a problem. In fact I was surprised I've how much power it had for a small motor. Passing other vehicles is not an issue and I would recommend this car to anybody.

      Can you tell me if the EyeSight can do stop and go traffic for the adaptive cruise control? I know the Honda and Toyota new sensors can do stop and go traffic for the cruise control. The car for these will hold the brake and you just have to hit the accelerator or a button on the steering wheel.

    Hey there Car Confections,
    Great review with clear descriptions of the various features on the car, especially as you discuss the different models that are available!
    I have a deep blue 2019 edition Limited XV 2.0iS (Australian) model now 12 months old and it's great to drive, especially with plenty of space for driver and passengers, together with its inbuilt safety features, all-wheel drive, neat interior trim, comfortable ride quality, and fuel economy. It's a great package!
    People are unnecessarily concerned about its lack of power, particularly with the CVT (which is the only transmission available in Australian XVs). While it is not a rocketship, that is not Subaru's intention. It is great as a daily driver with enough grunt and torque for highway and limited offroad ability which is Subaru's forte.
    I have previously owned a 1985 DL Wagon and a 2000 Forester among other cars and this is the best car I have owned and driven.
    Cheers from Down Under (Australia)

    I have this car, which I bought after getting rear ended and totalling my 09 camry hybrid.
    Way more goodies in this, even though I had every option in the camry.
    Less miles per gallon, not as comfy, possibly more expensive services (although, dealerships have tons of coupons), and less power, but is WAY more capable in new england weather.
    I don't find it super weak in the power department though.
    You have to adjust your driving, no matter what you're in, so it's just a matter of adjusting, getting to know the capabilities of the vehicle, and enjoying it.
    Thanks for sharing.

    A couple of weeks ago I bought a 2019 2.0i Premium Crosstrek. I love it. I still have my 2013 2.5i Premium Outback, which I bought new. It has been ‘the best’ vehicle I’ve ever owned. Really happy with the new Subie as well. The Outback has about 20 more horsepower than the Crosstrek. I’ve ‘never’ felt underpowered with it. The cars are engineered very well, and they utilize the power that they do have effectively and efficiently.

    Nice review. I love the Crosstrek but I drive a 2011 STI and the lack of power keeps me from buying. However, I did test drive a 2017 Crosstrek for a day and loved how much you can wind up that little motor for some fun below 45mph. I feel the Crosstrek may not be the most powerful car but it seems like a "happy" car.

      No, the 4hp does not make a difference. It's the new 6 speed transmission, and gearing that makes the difference. The upgraded chassis and suspension also helps. 4 hp is unnoticeable at every level.

    I bought a 2019 Crosstrek Limited in 2019. To date, 2/1/2024 and 10, 600 miles, I have not experienced any of the issues described in this video with my Crosstrek. My only complaints about my 2019 Crostrek, and I was aware of these 2 issues before I bought the Crostrek, is it is grossly underpowered which has since been corrected in the upper trim level Crosstrek, and the front seats don't fit my size. I'm 6'0" 180 lbs. and after 2+ hours of driving I'm really uncomfortable. I believe a seat bolster would correct this issue for me. All in all, for an around town grocery getter vehicle, as long as I'm not in the vehicle for longer than 2 hours at a stretch, I'm very happy with my 2019 Crosstrek. MPG has well exceeded EPA expectations. I've been driving since 1964 and I've yet to discover the perfect vehicle.

    I had a 2018 50th Anniversary Limited 2.0i Crosstrek. I got rid of it because it was just too slow for my needs. I went from a 2015 Subaru WRX STi to the Crosstrek to help save gas and on insurance money. I really thought I would have kept the car but the pain point I had with trying to pick up speed for the highway and even lanes that are around 50MPH and higher annoyed me. I will say that the ground clearance for this vehicle, along with AWD, was well worth it. I decided to go for speed and gas saving, and I don't have regrets with my 2019 Honda Accord Hybrid. The Crosstrek is definitely a great car to have if you want safety features, AWD, and higher ground clearance. The best part about the Crosstrek? The value for the price. Don't do what I did though as I went for the 50th Anniversary trim (I made a mistake doing that).

    I ordered a 2019 Manual Premium Crosstrek. Fosgate audio upgrade and couple other options. I drive a 2006 6-speed A3 sport wagon I purchased new. It’s at 120k miles. My son said to let him know when I’m letting it go so he can continue rowing it’s gears. Lives in S.F. So it’s an excellent small yet quick daily driver. As I’m a pro musician & live in Detroit Mi it’s time for an awd gear hauler to get me to shows on time. This is the bestbuy, most fun to drive manual of all the competition Ive driven recently. Mine coming get in the end of Dec.

    I liked your video, but I have two suggestions for your future videos. One: when you point at something, don't block it from the viewer (e.g., Android Play description). Two: when reviewing a product, don't allow rival product placement (e.g., wearing an Audi hat during a Subaru review). I think you did a good job. I offer these suggestions with respect and to help you to make your future videos even better.

That being said one issue I have is that the doors don’t lock when put into drive or after reaching a certain speed, such as 5 MPH. I consider this to be a lack in their safety features. Great review, but the one thing I missed was visibility. I want to know about seeing what is behind me. What is coming up along side me on the freeway? How well do the side mirrors tell me what's going on around me? So many new cars have awful visibility. That's a main reason I stick with a 20-year-old Grand Cherokee. Also, what is it like to parallel park?

    • @CarConfections
      @CarConfections  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      While we didn't do any parallel parking, the viability is quite good compared to most rivals. The front quarter window is beneficial and the back window is pretty wide, in my opinion.

      I just bought a 2019 Limited Crosstrek with all the options. Visibility is supurb. The forward beams along the windshield are angled perfectly and they aren't as chunky as the are on other models in this class. The side mirrors are smaller than I expected, but still provide exceptional viewing. I'm have the bezeless review mirror with homelink and it's amazing. I opted for all dimming mirrors which makes for great night driving. The backup camera is very crisp and provides just the right amount of information for safely backing up. All windows provide great visibility.

    Doesn't the premium trim also come with heated seats? Also, did they correct the issue where if you left the volume on high, and you start the car, it's takes a while for the head unit to load... and you have the previous volume blasting on high as you wait for the head unit to be ready so that you can turn down the volume ?

      I use to own a 2014 Crossterk, CVT premium, no power (specially when loaded), noisy nothing but trouble after 60K miles rear wheel bearings, front axle shafts, AC compressor and condenser, idler pulleys, break switch, burned oil (1 qt every 5K miles) the CVT was a nightmare, shuddering and bucking since 12K miles got worse with age. By 85 K the CVT was unbearable and another axle was clicking, stereo system blows, Symmetrical AWD is over rated because VDC (programming) cuts throttle when slipping in snow, leaving the drive no control .. Sold It and bought the wife a 2019 Tucson Sport... so far no issues (the Subaru had 3 dealer visits in the first year), plenty of power and space, solid, 100K warranty, smooth ride, quiet interior and nice stereo information system... pleasure to drive. AWD is good enough in auto and can be 50/50 locked by the driver when needed. 27 MPG's is only 2 less then the overstated Crosstrek. Good Luck

    I have a Subaru Crosstrek Limited it's a 2018 model. I like everything about it concluding the power. Don't understand the complaints about power. If you want more power buy a a sports car, so then go and buy something else. But then you will lose out on a great vehicle that does everything well. So stop the stupid comments about lack of power

      Umm I'm not really sure, I'd have to have them back to back. What I do know is that neither have a great deal of power. Sorry, I know that's not real helpful

    • @mtncguy85
      @mtncguy85 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I drove both. The crosstrek feels a little faster. Hrv has a 1.8L and the Crosstrek has a 2.0L. I currently drive a 17 wrx so I know the HRV and Crosstrek is not made for speed but I actually had fun driving both cars. It's for different purposes you know. Crosstrek will have the extra pep of acceleration while the HRV sometimes when you floor it from a stop your like oh ok. It's slow. It has low end torque but once it accelerates it goes. I merged on the highway fine actually and the motor is quieter than I thought.

    • @sjhart2464
      @sjhart2464 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have driven both the 2018 HRV and the 2019 Crosstrek, and I prefer the Crosstrek. The HRV had quite a bit of play in the gas pedal before it gave any get-up-and-go to the engine, and it felt cheap - doors did not feel solid and interior was not very well-made, rear seat was just a bench; I understand that it has great cargo capacity, but my impression was that that space comes at a cost of materials.. I had read reports that the Crosstrek was 'slow', but that was not my experience, and spec-wise, it has slightly more power than the HRV and Mazda CX3 at 6000 rpm. I drove (and briefly owned) the 2019 Mazda CX-3, (which was totaled in a MVC) and am most impressed by the Crosstrek, which I didn't even look at when I bought the CX-3 due to lukewarm reviews. The Crosstrek is fun to drive, and the amount of power it has surprised me. I wanted to like the HRV more, but I simply did not.
