    I have heard sooo many artists say they want to learn how to make their own sketchbooks since Strathmore discontinued that series. I know I was disappointed when I heard the news and ordered a couple to have on hand. I like the Etchr A5 and A6 but they’re sometimes a bit bulkier than I want. I do take the Stillman & Birn since it’s a bit smaller and I like them, but prefer the Etchr paper for watercolour (cellulose is great for gouache though). I expect I’ll have to resort to getting materials to bind a homemade sketchbook at some point, I just hate to waste painting time on making a sketchbook since my hobby time is limited. Factis is one of my favourite erasers too (with the Tombow for detail erasing). Anyway… LOVE seeing how other artists make up their travel kits… art supplies are so fun to see!

      I’m in the same boat as you, I love the Etchr books for their paper. But I do find them bulky as well. I’m not as crazy about the Stillman & Birn book I’m using now for watercolour but I love the size of it and that it’s soft cover! I was going to check into some different Etchr sketchbook sizes when I return home. I do know of one artist who exclusively makes all her sketchbooks. We had to make one in college and I remember really not liking that project. 🙃 I didn’t consider using my current Stillman & Birn for gouache though, I may have to try that!

    For white, I am testing Derwent inktense white block and Daniel Smith watercolor stick in titanium white. It is a challenge to find the right one. I do love making my own sketchbooks but they do look homemade still. Thanks for sharing.

      I didn't know about those two products, how did you find the Derwent inktense white block? I have two white posca pens that are the same size but have different profile shapes (one is Japanese, one is North American). I've been finding the Japanese one lately hasn't been as horrible to use. 😊 It is such an eternal struggle to find a good 'white paint' solution! 😅

    When you said you wanted a case that opened more like a book take a look at the LihitLab slimline pencil case...you can get an ultra slim one, or the next one up has a flap inside but is still very slim. It holds everything for a small set up like this. And keeps everything neat and held securely.

    I did a test on white pens. Posca and Gelly Roll were the best I tested.

      Thanks for sharing. I did pick up my old Posca recently and it's working better than before. I have two that are the same size nib but the one imported from Japan seems to work better than the one North American version I have. I'm glad to hear those are working for you also. They're definitely the most convenient to use! 😊

    Check out Brian Ashmore’s video on his mini travel kit (he has two videos, the other is a larger kit). He uses Maxpedition Fatty Pocket organizer, which I was able to find on Amazon. I like it, it has just enough compartments for my minimal tools, and it opens “like a book” as you said you are looking for. You can also look at the slightly more expensive Art Toolkit.

      Thanks for the suggestion! The Maxpedition organizer looks like it can hold quite a bit of supplies, that would be perfect. And I really like the size! I'll definitely check it out. 😊

    Have you tried the Uni Posca White Acrylic Paint Marker?

    • @LeanneLandArt
      @LeanneLandArt  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have tried a few! I think I like them best of all. They do seem to lose their intensity as they dry though, but I think that might be because I don’t wait long enough for my paintings to dry. I should actually try them again but try to wait a bit longer before applying them. 🙈

       @LeanneLandArt I see. I'm looking for an alternative to white gouache or ink pens. I just don't feel comfortable carrying those two around. Not only are they too much of a hassle on the go, the possibility of an ink leak is nightmarish lol So far, I'm feeling inclined towards the Uni Posca or the Uni-ball Signo (broad).

      Hi Sue! I ordered the extender plates from the Micro Painter website although they’re also available on the Amazon US website. The unit still closes nicely with the new pans added in, they’re quite nice! 😊

    natural bristles do not hold a point . you need synthetic instead.

    • @LeanneLandArt
      @LeanneLandArt  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh, that might be where I went wrong - I thought they were synthetic. That makes sense. Thank you for letting me know.
