So excited. My mother is African American and my father is Nigerian. Growing up I was always taught about AA building Liberia 🇱🇷. I am so optimistic about the future of Africa, especially Liberia

Why don't we African do our own documentary to tell our part of the story to the world
There are many historical documentaries created by African Americans. Why don't other people do it? Because they don't have the money nor access to the sources. Much of historical records are keep by western government, the big prestigious universities, churches, etc and regular people don't have access to these records which are scattered all over the world.
Because we have to create a stronger community and proud patriotic population.
Once people are truly proud, everything comes on its own. People like maya make us proud. The spirits need to be inspired and uplifted. Africans are very spiritual.
When we are truly happy and focused we create the best things in the world.
@@nkwakutoure Definitely. There are places around the world but people are aware. For example Sengal has the museum of Black civilization. South Africa has Freedom Park which has a Pan African section and memorials to numerous people. The UK has the Black Cultural archives which deals with the history of black people in the UK. Panama has Africa- Panama month. Barbados has African heritage month as well. I think there needs to be a way these groups can work together to tell our history on a grand scale.

African Americans have more global reach due to America being a superpower. Also this channel is promoting African countries so I presume most people watching are interested in more than just their own country.

It's a shame that stories such as this are not being told in schools throughout Africa and many people don't know that in Africa we had the world's oldest universities and the Europeans came into Africa to learn and these are the things that they need to teach the youth in schools throughout Africa but they are not doing it instead they are teaching the youth that the Europeans created everything and everything good came from the Europeans and that is a disaster because it teaches Africans to not be proud of themselves and our reach culture.

I'm so proud to be Liberian. The story is exactly truth. I wish one day Americo's Liberians and Native Liberians will get together and stop hate for one another.
The issue is not Americo Liberian and native liberian hating one another the problem is neither hate Racism/White Supremacy enough to focus on eliminating it and to be constructive with one another. Both are Afrikans whether they like it or not and other non Afrikans show that to Blacks worldwide by their disdain and hatred towards Blacks regardless how Blacks/Afrikans define themselves.

@@Obsermeneh There are European names all over Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya etc. Nigerian, Ghana, Kenya have the same system of government as Liberia, except Liberia has more Native control, where as the others are linked to England. Just look at the blond wigs worn by Nigerian lawyers. Their legal system's final say is British law.
Liberia is the only country in West Africa that had so many white presidents. Presently now based on the Liberian Constitution you have to be black to be called Liberian. Another race can't be a citizen of Liberia. Either one of your parents is black Liberian therefore you can be a Liberian. like for example if your parents bone you in Liberia and you are full-white that means you are not Liberian citizen. The Liberian Constitution grant any Liberian child born abroad a free citizenship in Liberia. As long as your parents are Liberians are either one of them is Liberian, that's up to you to be a Liberian citizen at the age of 21. At the same time it comes with some rules, you cannot take part in Liberians politics, neither run for government in Liberians.. but you can own properties in Liberia, that is your full right. I wish every part of Africa can have that Constitution, exclude the North side 🤫👉🏿💪🏼 because I don't think they're Africans.

Wow! Africans have been self determined for centuries Liberia is the evidence.. Just wow. 1700 - 1800 must have been a tumultuous time in the Continent .A lot was happening as the shackles of slavery were being fought to be removed , these same White People were redesigning a new grip, by living on the Continent and controlling the resources administrative through colonisation and the story continues. I guess they copied it, from the African American Liberia model. It's the same manner the Portuguese merchants started selling us as commodity from using our system of skavery and switching it around to somthing else .History really gives you the perspective of why things are the way they are.

That British governor Charles McCarthy of Sierra Leon he mentioned ended up going to Ghana. While in Ghana he led an army to attack the Ashanti kingdom but was killed in a battle with the Ashanti. His skull was used as a drinking cup by our royals for years after. 😂

The history of The American Colonization Society (ACS) role in the establishment of a Freed Black Country called Liberia in West Africa was intentionally left out of the high school history books in the U.S.
I was surprised to find a small chapter on The ACS in my American History book in college.
College students who are majoring in African American Studies or doing courses in AA studies are privileged with such vast information on the role African Americans have in the establishment of Liberia.
Up till now it baffles me why this important African American history is not taught in American High School?
The White Man divide and conquer of the black race continues unabated!
The struggle for African Unity must continue unabated.

This settlement story sounds eerily similar to the African Americans that first settled in Haiti via Philadelphia. They landed in Haiti but were not comfortable living there so they migrated to Samana in the Dominican republic. To this day the American surnames still exist largely in that community.

On a serious note. There are lot of factors, just like most African countries of West Africa, I think colonialism affected us so badly because we had assimilate to the British Psych so we struggled to form our National Identity we became more confused. And you have to go back to the history of the remnants of slavery transitioning into colonialism. So as the Freed settlers are integrated with the indigeneous people there is an underling fault.
This division played a major role in the political tussles, cope detas, and instabilities in these Nation. Liberia just had the worst end on the stick! And the civil war in Liberia was no joke! I almost lost my sister to that war. That's story for another day. Plus a lot of Liberians next for the USA. We have big thriving Liberians communities in Philadelphia PA , Princeton NJ, Boston MA .When a generation leaves a country. The void is what you see in present day Liberia.

Ida Mbye Nope, those were the recaptives, enslaved ppl taken from places like present day Nigeria. After British abolished slavery, then used to intercept the slave ships and instead of sending them back. They took them to Sierra Leone, Gambia, Fernando Po, the Caribbean.
This is why some Krio ppl in Freetown have Igbo and Yoruba names. Some Krio ppl were taken to Gambia.
Been studying this history for over 2 decades.
They speak krio a (Creole) not pidgin English, nigeria has pidgin. Try to know the difference.
