    For my small UK ceiling, I roughly worked it out at around £4000 for the materials. That's about £3800 more than I want to spend.

    incredibly expensive product. You can hire out a pro to do this using MDF for the same cost as just this and save yourself the labor and do something more productive with your time. Cut the cost of this foam by 75% and you may have a viable DIY alternative.
