the bottle in the first diy will be very restricting for the plant so if you are recreating it and want the plant to last longer and be happier, I would suggest cutting the bottle lower down so that the plant sits on top instead of inside the bottle, so that it can still benefit from the rest of the soil in the pot. It will not in any way affect the watering system as long as the bottle is cut at a higher point than where the saucer is. Also remember to always soak the soil after a repot, even in a self watering pot :)

You don’t actually want to use a water bottle. You want to use a “wick” a piece of cotton cloth or something like that is more than enough. You put a small hole is the saucer, shove half or the cloth in, and leave the other half in the soil.
      Don’t make a sub-irrigated planter for a succulent though.

Agree !!! They often do diy for plants but dont know much about it....this plastic bottle is a horrible idea, very bad for the plants and now a bunch of people will just copy then assuming they know what they're doing 🙄

Yeah, maybe it would have been different if the soul wasn't continually sitting IN the water and it was just cotton string running from soil to water, then they are able to leach it as they need. However, root rot WILL set in since the soil will never dry out

I apologize guys but so many wrongs in this video. Putting an Aglaonema (Google is wrong) on that small bottle is too constricting , you probably destroyed a bunch of it's roots. :( Also, putting that much Epson salt+ammonia will your plant. It's suppose.to be 1 teaspoon per 1 gallon of water. And please don't add baking soda nor ammonia. :(:( Lastly, don't water at night. Do it as early as you can in the morning. Would you want to go to sleep in a wet , soggy bed?.

You can search online how much any plant should be watered. It’ll tell you to water once the soil has completely dried or if you should keep the soil moist, etc. you can poke a popsicle stick into the dirt to see if the soil is moist or dry so you know if you should water it. also, keeping plants with similar water needs together can help you to remember when to water those plants.

When are (some) people gonna stop complaining about TH-camrs being sponsored? First of all, it's their income, and second of all, they still delivered a nice and interesting video. Plus, for some youtubers, sponsors are their only source of income, given the monetization problems and all. (I know it's not really the case of the Sorry Girls, but a sponsor is still very helpful for them.)

I couldn't figure out what bothered me about this video for a while, but now I know. I don't mind the sponsorship, that's great for you! And the smart home stuff is really informative, I never knew all the options. 😊 although I suppose you could do a lil more explaining about what exactly you need (so smart plugs are a thing?) and how it works.
What makes it feel iffy is that you filmed it in this fake home. Either do it in your space to see how you actually integrate the smart home stuff into your life or present an actual "lab" situation. Either way, not this fake candid set-up, it's off-putting. And I knoooow that they invited you to NY and all, but maybe it's sth to consider next time.😘

Google: Alright, ~water~ my plants every 14 days.

I've had grow lights before it got legalized.... You do know that they can be used for any plant that you want, right? Like I have a North facing window, and in the winter time this far north the sun's not up for very long.... So grow lights.

You can water at night or the day, it literally doesn't matter. It rains anytime in nature and your plants will be perfectly fine as long as you aren't leaving puddles in the crown of the plant (unless its a bromeliad, they like puddles). I usually water my plants at night when I get home from work, and I have about 150 houseplants... so its really ok!

If you have an aquarium you can use your aquarium water when you do water changes to water your plants and give them extra nutrients. The water have nutrients in it from the biological bacteria mix in the water, basicly fertilizing your plants.
