My 91 year old dad.. who is still living independently loves steam and has a wonderful great Western model railway in his barn... he also volunteered on a full-size old railway until he was in his early 80's laying rail and alsorts ..he's amazing ...so I have grown up appreciating steam engines having visited many and seen the flying Scotsmen on many occasions.. near where we live now in Cumbria we get the steam trains on the Carlisle to Settle railway too 💜
My husband was an engine driver/fireman and he would have been apoplectic at the black smoke coming from that engine. Oh how I remember the steam trains passing our house and me rushing out to wave to him when we were courting. Thank you for the memories Sean.🎄🎄
There is no Welsh Steam coal being mined anymore. The imported coal is not the same quality and it causes a lot of problems on preserved steam railways.
You can keep those bread rolls that you need to cook, in an ordinary cupboard Sean. No need to chill or freeze. The sell by date is always months ahead as they have a very long shelf life.
He and the other man the conductor were informative and very nice. I enjoyed this so much. It made me think of my mom she loved trains. Thank you so much. It was a lovely day out. The Christmas lights I loved it. This whole video warmed my heart .
Cheers. The blue loco is my favourite one so even tho I'm used to it I still got childlike excitement as it blew out steam to leave - where I tapped Sean on the arm and said come on let's go up to it (& I'm in my 50's ha ha). So glad to hear u enjoyed this, that was the hope. We will b returning to capture more for u. Merry Christmas.
The best thing ever is 'The Train of Lights'. (Torbay. ) It is a steam train covered in coloured lights. Which is absolute genius because when all that steam comes billowing out it takes on the colour from the lights & it looks amazing! Turner would have loved it.
Thanks so much for showing us the wonderful old trains! As a child when we were out at night and stopped for a passing passenger train it seemed so magical. i remember seeing people dressed up inside and wondering what was going on in their lives. It was, to me, like watching a short movie.
I live near Avon Valley Railway and it is a wonderful place - we often visit in the summer months for a cup of tea and a wander round. I remember going to a jumble sale there well over forty years ago when they were fund-raising to get the railway up and running. It was the most bizarre jumble sale I have ever been to as it was held in one of the locomotive sheds with one of the steam engines in the background and everything smelt really strongly of coal when we got it home. Got some excellent bargains there and it's a jumble sale forever etched in my memory.
We live near the Bluebell Railway in Sussex which operates throughout the year. In the last year it has been visited by the Flying Scotsman and the A4 Pacific Sir Nigel Gresley. My husband and I- aged 82 and 75- play at being the Railway Children waving to the trains from the line side. The children and grandchildren often visit there too. I love hearing the steam trains from our garden.
Sean, thank you for this video ,it was a blessing. It kept my spirits up. My mother died in 09 my dad in 16, my younger brother 2021 and his wife 4 months earlier. I'm alone , 58 years old.
I’m so sorry for your losses. Christmas can be a lonely time for so many. Treat yourself to something special, a glass of your favourite tipple, cake etc & watch a good film( if any on the TV.) Don’t do any housework etc- be kind to yourself. This video was very uplifting- watch some old videos from Sean too!Hope you don’t mind my commenting.
My grandad would only drink Camp coffee, and I still do too, we have a bottle in the cupboard now. I love it but my wife hates it, it’s another Marmite thing, you either love it or hate it.
I am 68 years young, and I can remember going with my brother, as children, to the bridge above the railway in Pinner, Middlesex - where we lived at the time - and watching the steam train coming, going under the bridge, and emerging the other side with all the steam coming up to us. Wonderful sight, and noise. Long way to go to get your camera, but what a grand day out you had in the end! Blessings to you, from Jilly & Madge. xxx
What an absolute joy your videos are! I myself have relocated this year, and I am an avid watcher of your daily journey. Truly inspirational and uplifting. Wishing you the best of Christmas and I look forward to seeing many more of your adventures xx
Thank you for the visit to Bristol with you. The tree you planted at the homestead is the same kind of Sweet Gum that grows wild in my area! They do turn beautiful autumn colors! Don't forget to hang some ornaments on the Christmas tree you planted in your friend's memory. Have any birds shown up at your bird feeder? I have lots of birds and right now they are SO very hungry! I also had a flock of wild turkeys in my yard! I would share a picture of them if I could. Til next time.
What an interesting time you had today. Hubby would have loved it he use to be a shunter at Tinsley yard at Sheffield. It was his job to make sure the steel was secure and to get the trains ready. 😊. The bread you bake can stop in your cupboard or even your store under the stairs. It's just kept in the aisles in the supermarket. Mum use to make her own bread. She packed in making it in her 80's when her hands couldn't knead the bread . 😊
They held Santa's Specials on the steam train from my town, when l was a teenager, l worked in a bakery, it was my job to make all the mince pies from October onwards. I had an old flame heated iron stamper for the bases in either shallow or deep dish aluminium foil. I remember towards the end (5 years later), l was thumping out 30,000 mince pies for Santa alone!🍮
Gosh I live steam trains, they were still operating when I was a young girl, live the smell and the slow pace, when they stopped to fill up with water I recall how much slower life was then and no one carried on we just waited… great video Sean thanks
Helps me to put hat and gloves in most used jacket pockets so they are always there. One less thing. Loved the music and your quick food delivery. All good
Your wonderful. Say hello to the kitty cats from the elderly lady in Upstate NY in the cold Hudson Valley. I look forward to your videos. You brighten my day .
One of my favourite things is to travel on the Dart Valley Railway. It goes from Paignton to Dartmouth. No need to book in advance, just pay like you would normally for the next train. Not cheep though.
One good thing Sean, you never get lonely. You are always doing something which is very good because this time of year, a lot of people get very melancholy.😊

Great David - as we r going back in early 2025. They do fish and chip train rides which I'd quite like, so hopefully u will see more of the lovely locos etc. Merry Christmas.
Thank you Sean, appreciate all you do to make those vlogs so varied and interesting. You certainly won't starve at Christmas going by all the lovely food you have had delivered. Look forward to seeing those old videos that you are going to put up.
So enjoyed this day with you. Steam trains are such a beautiful reminder of by gone travel. Thank you to all the volunteers who keep history alive. You always seem to meet such interesting people who have stories or info to share. So enjoy these segments. Enjoy playing with your new camera and looking forward to a visit tomorrow. 👍🏻❤️🎄
Thank you Sean, that was so interesting. My dad used to be a train spotter, collecting train numbers when he was a kid. A much simpler and gentle life I think.
Thank you so much for coming along to visit Sean, we loved showing you around!
Hopefully we’ll see you again in the future! 🚂
Great day out, see you in the Spring.
As a viewer, I enjoyed this so much!

No worries about missing two trains. 😂 When you were getting dressed in the kitchen, I swear I heard some Barry White start playing. 👀🎄
The best things happen in life when you least expect them. Happy Christmas everyone.
You could put bottles in a box in the garden in the winter you might then have more room in your fridge x
Our conservatory makes a very good fridge in the winter! 🥶
Your bread rolls look like they are part baked long life ones, that are vacuum sealed and are fine in the cupboard.
Be careful of the ingredients though, packed with a lot of salt and preservatives. From memory nearly 1g per roll…Not long life otherwise 😢
@@Jenniejones60 A lot of packaged processed 'messed with' food there but that has been the trend in the UK for quite some time. M&S started all that.
