I have planted 3 blue spruce trees and that is not enough space from the wall. Plant it triple of what you have given it. Love what you have done so far in the garden.
Agreed. Unless its a dwarf or something. I was going to make the same comment. My neighbor's blue spruce takes uo half her front yard and is about 50 feet tall. Google says: "Blue spruce has a slow to medium growth rate, and it grows 30 to 60 feet tall, spreading 10 to 20 feet wide. Allow 12 to 24 feet between individuals when planting."
I think I’ve got about 55 relatives and a couple of friends, and each Christmas I’d be lucky if I get 5 cards, Sean, how do you do it? Don’t talk to me about birthday cards, for my 70th. I got two! 😝 maybe it’s the cost of living or they don’t give a toss, who knows?
Hi Sean, Living in the mountains and having planted pine and fir trees, at the rate they grow, your tree will eventually push out into the fence and could compromise it. Each tree you need to check against the average rate of growth and calculate the diameter to know what range of space around the tree you need.before planting.
I wish I could send you our 60 ft tall sweet gum tree. It is pretty in fall but nothing but ivy will grow on that side of the yard now. I have always gone barefoot in the summer but stepping on sweet gum balls can be quite painful and cleaning them up is no fun either.
Nice to see trees being planted! Here's hoping my two pear trees and one peach tree really take hold next year. (One red, one Anjou, and a hardy peach.) Living in a house built in 1952, with the insulation of a wet noodle, I can sympathize on the gas bill. I put in a smart thermostat to help regulate things but it's often quite high.
Also I have a similar stonepaper notebook, the feel of the paper is a bit different. They're made of compressed stone dust glued together. No trees needed for the pages at least.
I have a Liquidambar in the corner of my front garden, colours are spectacular in Autumn, did cause some damage to my plumbing but got that sorted.. it’s been in around 20 years I believe is about 40ft, I have a claret ash too which is stunning and two others whose name I dont know,I also have a very large pine in front paddock in front of my house, smells like Xmas all the time 😂… love the fact you are planting trees
I think if you’d simply cut the 3 plastic ties around the cardboard, the box would have opened easily and you wouldn’t have had to tear through the cardboard. Let’s hope it can still be recycled (our bin-women and men here won’t take damp or wet paper and cardboard, nor if it’s not cut up to fit in the recycling bag).
Is there any way you can put some of us followers out of our misery and remove that awful broken down green netting off the back fence - it will take 5 seconds and make us stop shouting at the screen 🙏🙏
Is this a variety with no sweet gum balls?? We used to have a sweet gum. Raked up 15 big bags of spiky balls every spring. 😫We finally found a way to not have to deal with them any more- move to another house!! 🍁
Neighbor removed an old one this summer that was bordering my yard. So glad it's gone! First fall without those gum balls covering my back yard. It was a task getting those things up.
Looks like you're going to have to put some strings up for the cards like mum did. I stick mine on the doors with blue tak . The cushion covers look just like my cat Milo , i thought they looked great 😊. Glad to see my card arrived safely, be strange when the vlogs go back to what they were. Seems ages since you were on your hols x .
Yes you have spoilt us with all those daily vlogs, we will all have withdrawal symptoms in the New Year. Thanks for sharing all those lovely cards and gifts that you have been sent.
So called 'stone paper' is basically plastic with a bit of stone dust mixed in. Makes me wonder how well it'll hold up over time, as plastics tend to degrade, especially under circumstances like that. Not great for the environment, in any case.
How big do the roots get On this. Tree. On the sidewalks in New York, the trees break up the cement and start pulling out of the ground. Because the roots get so big. They have no Where else to go?
They roots grow quite big. I dealt with them in my job. Yes had to have them removed from sidewalks where they have lifted the paving and even distorted the street. The seed pods are quite messy and a bit spikey. They are beautiful trees that I would recommend for larger areas such as parks
Hi my lovely 😊 I think the tree you planted in the flower bed will eventually block out some sunlight to all the lovely flowers and veggies you’ll plant there. Maybe change the spot while you can❤. Loving seeing the homestead slowly coming back to life ❤❤ xxx
Lovely video as always Sean. Thank you for all the work that goes into making them for our enjoyment. Please get some scissors and cut away that horrible bit of bright tatty green plastic netting by the stream. It would only take you about 10 minutes maximum! Then we can feel part of the stream and woodland and it would look so much better. Bet you won’t do it!!
Hi Sean, I'm curious as to how you obtained your homestead. Do you rent it or buy it? Is it possible to ask a landowner if they would let a. piece of land for growing? Is it expensive? Apologies for being nosy, I'm inspired to think about the possibility of a similar project myself. Regards, Jill
I have pines of all sorts on my property and I would recommend a minimum of at least 2mtrs as the bottom branches can easily grow to 3 metres but maybe you can prune them a fraction as it grows So so jealous of the soil
I read Deep Country last winter...a good read for nature lovers. Personally would have liked more homely bits, but not all folks are domestic godesses! Susan
What a lovely video. So kind, all the cards and gifts you received. I just had TKR surgery and find comfort and joy in your videos. Will you be singing Christmas songs to us again? Lovely voice. The Most Wonderful Time of the Year is my favorite. It would be interesting to see what your viewers like. Merry Christmas Sean. Thanks for all your hard work and sharing with us.
I love what you are doing to your homestead, it's taking shape. I'm on Instagram, but anyway, I'm 58 and how do you make your money you are always buying stuff, is it from u tube? How would I get that started? But I'm not a people person.
Really intrigued with that Amber tree. Never heard of it but looks amazing. Beautiful cards Sean. Wish I could have sent you one but Canada post has been on strike. No parcels or cards in the post this year. They just went back to work two days ago. Nice to see you planting your friend’s memory tree. Love a Blue Spruce tree. Enjoy that beautiful new sweater and heater. The kitties will love all that heat.
Hi Sean, glad you received those cushion covers okay. Yep they were the same, I just meant that they weren't exactly like Rusty. I thought they'd go nicely in your Summer House. Glad they were okay anyway. 🙂 Before that I sent you a Christmas card too, so I hope that hasn't gone missing - that would have arrived when you were on your hols. 🙂 Loved that Christmas jumper, that will really suit you Sean. I really liked that tree, that will look lovely as you say next Autumn. 🙂 Nice Barbara's Christmas Tree is in too. See you for the next one. 👍🏻
Enjoyed your video. Love your Christmas jumper, also I have just bought myself a halogen heater. Really throws out the heat, my cats love it. Keep warm.
Thanks, Sean...love the two trees you planted on the homestead....they are both going to be specimen show stoppers...We dont have boxing day in the U.S. Could you tell us a childhood story about a boxing day, and what it is, and what it means to you. ❤
I've just had the energy suppliers trying to up my monthly payments..... I know exactly how much I used and try to calculate the costs myself and put the money aside for it... British gas can go sing to the moon if they think I'm going to let my credit sit in their coffers for the summer months... and the electric was trying to increase their payment by £18 + my income hasn't increased so they can sing too I have been in £5 credit for the last two months .... I will drip feed what I have put aside to both of them as I see fit! It's all a bl**dy racket. It was an eye test that raised the concern over glaucoma and undiagnosed diabetes... I know if my eyes are fuzzy it's my blood sugars up the creek... Prioritise getting checked and getting specs if they are needed .. it's important... please...
Last year I had all my bills changed from paying a fixed monthly amount to only paying exactly what I owe, no more, no less. Give your providers a call & do the same, it’s the only way you won’t be over charged & be in control. I hope this helps 🙋🏻♀️🇬🇧
I guess what I've sent you must have gotten lost somewhere along the way. Was sent on the 4th ( tracked) marked as delivered by the 9th. Oh well... Nevermind. Was a spoon, cat treats and a card. Anyways nice cards everyone sent. Love the different designs.
@seanjamescameron I'm relieved to hear that it has arrived after all and glad that you love what I've sent. Do your cats like the treats? They are my cats favourite.
Very jealous - all those lovely Christmas cards!! I've only received a handful back, no one seems to send them anymore, such a shame x However, I now don't really expect anyone to pay the astronomical cost of a stamp - shocking!
I love the way you garden! My stuffy old head gardener teachers, from being a trainee gardener, would be all full of self importance and opinions. I have kept the same style as you all these years later 🥰
Don’t want to think of these coming to an end. What lovely cards and presents you’ve received, what kind people who follow your vlogs. Shame you don’t like coffee was going to suggest a coffee advent calendar next year. Your curtains do look lovely. See you tomorrow.🐞
Hi Sean, been watching your videos for a while now, only just realised i hadn`t subscribed, i`ve done it now, keep making the videos mate, love them...
Sean I am worried the plastic bags blowing around the plot will end up in the river.
Same here. The first one blew off toward the river.
The plot is really taking shape! Looks great. I can just imagine it all filled up and blooming. 😊

In the US, a sweet gum tree drops prickly pods that hurt if you step on them.

Sean get yourself some reading glasses 🤓, life changing ❤
Perhaps an Eye test would help you too Sean. Failing eyesight happens to all of us as we get older 😎

It’s going in the compost.
Merry Christmas Sean..... I look forward to planting (following) along this spring and summer....
Love the tin tea time sign. I recently purchased different ones to hang by the mailbox for the different holidays. They add a nice nostalgic touch!
To grow the Bird of Paradise. Plant one seed per small pot. Well draining soil. Cover with a small plastic bag. Park out of the way.
Sean you brighten this elderly lady’s day. Thank you for all you do .🎄🎄☃️⛄️ I am the the lady from Upstate NY in the cold snowy Hudson Valley ⛄️⛄️☃️❄️
That is a perfect tea time sign. I love it.
I'll add my concerns about the blue spruce, here in NC USA, they get really large...Love the jumper!

I think it could be a hazard for little birds. I'm hoping Sean will cut it down.
Nice to see the trees going in Sean and what a lovely postbag you have had too...
Sean I planted my Liquid Amber about 14 years ago it’s at least 30 ft high turns a beautiful shades of gold yellow red in Autumn
Deep Country is a nice read. It can be a bit heavy on the bird-watching front but if you enjoy that then you'll love it 🙂
We had 3 x beautiful liquid ambers at our house when I was growing up. Our neighbour hated them because they drop leaves, so he poisoned them all!
We have a black sweet gum, and it's huge. Tall and slender.

You should get 2 big ribbons. Hang them on either side of the fireplace and take the cards to the ribbons. It looks beautiful.
Lovely suggestion 🎀 I agree
Renovation of a cottage in Treherbert featured on todays Homes Under The Hammer
Programme, interesting to see.
The presenter of that show, Martyn only lives around the corner from me, in fact he’s in a video of mine next week.
Just watching it, yes I've seen this episode before. I keep trying to teach Martyn how to correctly pronounce the local names.
You'll have to get yourself a box cutter for your homestead. 😁
I have a few different liquidambars, a good one for an allotment size area would be slender silhouette.
