Fred, I really enjoy your videos! Similar mindset, 32 years protection work, over saw many details of active duty LAPD as well as LASO officers. Great job, keep up the great work! Still working most likely another 3 years. Would love to meet you one day. Take care!👍
Thanks David! Those three years will be here before you know it. I'm so glad that you can see the finish line. Please stay in touch! I would love to meet up one day for coffee or to ' break bread' . Stay safe out there!
Fred, glad to see you made the move to Thailand. Thailand seems to have this effect on people. I visited last year for a month and can't wait to go back. My wife and myself are slow traveling through SE Asia for 6 months next year. Plan on being a part time expat from there on out 6 months out of the year. Keep up the good content. The politics back home are getting crazier then ever. Your Florida neighbor in Volusia county, Joe.
Thanks for dropping in. I think the slow travel route is a great way to do it. My neighbors are 6 months here and 6 back in Maine. Fun fact, I also lived in DeLand for a few years as well. Yes life over here in Thailand has been a blessing.
One day I will visit you in Thailand 🇹🇭. I’m currently a Trauma / Addiction/ PTSD Nurse in Ocala , Florida. Like you I was a Deputy Sheriff in Houston, TX and departed after 13 yrs. Due to having SI after seeing multiple Suicides and Deaths of fellow deputies. Your content on this video hit home for me . Thanks for the awareness. Your soul is on its path.
Thank you so much. I'm sorry that you've experienced those losses, I can relate to your pain. I think it's so honorable that you continue to serve your community in a different capacity.I hope you are able to make over one day. Maybe we can grab a coffee and have a chat.
I always enjoy your vlogs, Fred. I love how you speak from the heart and share what you’ve learned in life. It’s been two years, nine months since I focused intently on my health. Within 10 months, I got off 7 medications I had been on for 20+ years. I’ve learned the choices we make with what we eat has significant long term impact on how we will live out our senior years. I’m caring for a 91 year old 2nd cousin now but will make my way back to Chiang Mai eventually. Been there 30 times since 2005 and now that I’m retired, it will be a longer term destination once my responsibilities change.
Thank you for sharing your story. I've learned that we have to be intentional about both our physical and mental health. I'm glad you have a long-term plan and hope to meet you one day. Thanks for the kind words
We're planning to return to Thailand, and I hope to look you up. Lots of wisdom here. Thanks for giving Jim Croce some love (good job!). I know that song by heart, too.
Nice episode. Your last comment reminded me of something that happened to me in Thailand recently. While having a beer at a cafe, a guy crosses the street coming towards, stops, and asks me if I knew the song Staying Alive by Robin Gibb. I said yes. He smiled at me and started singing it and walked away. It dawned on me then and there that staying alive is perhaps the most important desire anyone can have. No need for bucket lists.
I agree with you about the bucket list concept, never entertained that way of thinking! I will be 57 years young in December, retired just over a year now. Staying fit and excersing at least 3 times a week, eating a whole food diet, along with having a spiritual connection and relationship with God that keeps me grounded with joy and peace are my top priorities. You enjoy life to where you forget what day it because everyday is the weekend! Monday Monday (song) never enters my mind unless I have something planned for that day. It's all about the simple things in life that money can't buy and the pleasure they bring. I wouldn't mind moving abroad if that's in the plans but I would definitely like to visit Thailand for sure! Not during the 🌧️ season though. Thanks for the video.
Great video, looks like you are attaining some Thai Buddhist enlightenment. Sansai municipal park is a great park for the local community. Pass by it almost every day. If you walk the other way, there is a nice coffee shop at the end of the path. Or you can enter the Ptt gas station from the back and visit the shops. You should check out the park during Loy krathong, it’s decorated nicely and really has a very local feel.
@@glum75 , Thank you for checking out the video, and yes, there is a different level of peace I've discovered. I appreciate the tip on the coffee shop, taking my wife to the park this week. I will definitely check it out on the holiday!!
Hi Fred! My husband and I retired early (he was law enforcement too). We sold everything and are traveling the world one month at a time. We just started in July and we also started a TH-cam channel. We will be in Chiang Mai in January and would love to connect if possible. I love your videos and perspective. 😊
@@farawayfred802 Retired Nomad Adventures 😊 I really will reach out when we get to Chiang Mai, if that’s okay. In the meantime, we’ll keep watching your videos!
We’re considering 6/6 Thailand and Perth Australia where our son and his wife are based. The Aged Parent visa for AU is now a 14 year wait, so we think the 50/50 approach for 5 years might work best for us. We’re coming to Thailand in February for a one month recce and back again in November after that.
That's a great plan. Our next door neighbors and friends do the same. They are here six months and back in the U. S for six to spend time with the kids and grandkids. There are a lot of options, good luck!
I'm so glad you said pickle ball. My husband was wondering if there was pickle ball in Chiang Mai!! He's one of those that you were talking about. 65 years old and still plays basketball, softball, pickle ball, works out every day. He's a beast!
YAY! I play pickleball with Fred, and we have a great group of players who enjoy each other's company, being active, and playing the game more than we enjoy winning. No trash talking and no egos, just a bunch of people in their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s who like to have fun. 👍 Send you husband to come play with us!
@@farawayfred802 Tha'ts great! I was a bit concerned because he's so well known in the DC/MD area for his sports abilities (as a senior), I was scared he was going to miss it once we move, but as long as there's sports there, he'll be just fine.
Thanks Fred . I agree with you about the aging thing especially in the US. We tend to put our elderly not all but, a lot in nursing homes and very much separated from and by society. No one wants to be looked down upon and we do that with the elderly. I dont want that for my self so I am actually thinking about moving to Thailand especially after my daughter gets into college. I also want to do it for the weather I personally hate the cold and it is so much more affordable as well. Health care is or at least seems to be so much better as well in other countries without the hopefully huge price tag.
Hi Rebecca. I was caring for my mother at home for 7 years until she left the house at 2 am “looking for the children.” She suffers from Alzheimer’s and I knew that night her needs had exceeded my ability to care for her at home. I had her in memory care the following week. She turns 90 next month. The monthly cost for her care is $8,500. Fortunately, she and Dad took out long-term care insurance which covers $5,600 per month. She’s entering her final months 😢. You will love Thailand. I’ve been there 30 times since 2005. The people and culture are such a pleasure. I’m also caring for my 91 year old second cousin. Once my responsibilities change, my first task is to book a flight to Chiang Mai. Wish you the best. P.s. check out Fred’s vlog on long-term care options in Chiang Mai. It seem so superior to what is available in the US and it’s a third less.
Thank you, I have visited a few of the care facilities over here and the level of care and respect from the caregivers is amazing. If needed my wife and I in our later years hope that we can stay at home and hire care to help us. It is a game changer over here.
Fred.....what is the name of the wellness/ torture/massage place. I am in super need, sounds like it may be able to help me. I am in CM also (Nieman). Thanks in advance.
I really appreciate this video. It's very profound, especially your last comment... Keep kicking that bucket as long as you can...😀
Absolutely! 😎.
I appreciate you dropping in.

See you soon my friend!
Are you playing pickelball indoors or outdoors? Seems too hot to play outside.
I'm playing indoors at BYC Pickleball. We start at 9 am, by 11am it is a little hot. However the cooler weather is on the way.

Experiences over things, that’s what I’ve learned with age.
I agree 100%, and there is so much to experience over here that doesn't tug at the purse strings.
I would take that money and buy dividend paying stocks.
I am able to save and invest due to relocating.
I'm leaving Spain next year, I'm tired of the Politics, the high cost of living, and the crazy taxes. Life is too short.
Life is too short indeed, nothing wrong with traveling until you find what fits you.
