Hey Fred! Just wanted to say that I saw the Business Insider article on you and your wife today! Great story!! Filled in so many bits of your story and the adventure you guys are having now. So happy to see that your story is getting out. It will help a lot of people.
Love this video and to know my wife Jessica and i could travel and see such a beautiful country and not kill your wallet is awesome! Next year we are going a european cruise and visiting 12 european countries. Your area is coming after for sure. Tell your wife hi for us and keep living that balanced life my friend!
You were walking in my neck of the woods. I’ve been traveling to Chiang Mai since 2005 and mostly stayed at the Duangtawan Hotel which became Centara and reverted back to Duangtawan. I now stay at the Marriott. I stay about 4 nights in Chiang Mai and the rest of my time is spent in bamboo huts in Ethnic Minority villages in the mountains for Northern Thailand. Talk about contrast in sleeping accommodations. 🤣 Can’t wait to return.
@@jnsa9454 I work on projects involving Hill Tribe children with parents, orphans and refugees. For the children with parents, I would help build housing in larger mountain cities that had public schools. Children would live in the housing during the school year so they could receive an education. Orphan projects were primarily construction related. We build a security wall around one in OmKoi to protect the children from human traffickers. The refugee orphans were the toughest. Fifty orphans who watched their parents raped, murdered or enslaved by the Burmese (Myanmar) Army. Most of those we served were from the Karen (pronounced “Car-wren”) State in Myanmar.
Well done, great video. Thank you for these economical suggestion! It’s always good to know about the hidden gems that are vetted. All of your suggestions have been noted for our upcoming travel.
I was just there yesterday riding around. Some of the most flooded areas have completely subsided. I think the rainy season is coming to an end. The city center was buzzing with activity.
I remember having a great Indian meal with the wife and kids at the Taj Mahal restaurant that you mentioned in the video. If its only 870 baht to stay in your featured hotel, well heck, next time we go there I think we will stay in town for the night rather than returning home to San Phi Seua district, just north of the old city.
It is definitely worth it! And I will try the Indian Restaurant next time. Thanks Robert! I have a Michelin Star Restaurant video coming out in a couple of weeks as well😎
@ yes, I am following your suggestion, and planned for Nov 24-Dec1. I will be in town proper, for the first 6 days, Then off to the forest retreat,. I will be in touch.
Thanks for the tips and recommendations Fred. How are you and your wife doing after the bad flooding in Chang Mai? I hope you and everyone else are doing ok and better. Take care and stay safe.
Thank you. Fortunately out here in Doi Saket we were not hit as hard. We had a muddy driveway that we had to navigate and some flooding on the 118 that we take into the city. But we were very very fortunate unlike many. Thanks for checking in.

I personally think that October - December is the best weather.

How the naives treat black people
I've had zero problems any and everywhere I've gone. They are very welcoming.
Same here no problems when I visit!
Locals care more about your manners than your color!
