How To Fix Your OBS Ford's Window Motor For Only $2

- This video is to prove that if I can do it you can too. You don't even need to remove the door speaker. After you drill the 1/2" holes in the door panel it gives you plenty of access for a 8mm screwdriver. You don't need to buy a whole new window motor or even a replacement gear. All you need is (3) 3/8" ball bearings, and you can fix the problem for less than $2!!! THANKS FOR WATCHING!!!

Thank you so much I just bought a replacement motor and now I can return it and save 50$
@@raydon3682 glad the video was able to save ya a few bucks!😀👍
Just done the door, works great thanks. 1 hour & 3 balls.
@@rewoodii that’s great to hear! glad the video was helpful!
Really appreciate the information. Before doing any research I just removed my motor, checked the teeth, and assumed it jumped off the gear or something. Didn’t even think about looking inside the thing.
Glad you found it helpful Derek. I ended up finding out Ford window motors are pretty tough. I’m glad it was just a few plastic pieces that needed replacement at the end of the day.👍
Great video but if you're going to go through the trouble of fixing the motor, DO NOT use the ball bearings. First of all 3/8 bearings are too small. They leave lots of play for the gear that goes in the center of the box which causes the window to skip and fall when rolling it down. Second, the original nylon spacers were intentional. If the window if frozen shut or gets stuck the nylon spacers are designed to break so you avoid stripping gears or bending the arm guide the window sits on inside the door. The Dorman Replacement pack is like $8 from most auto stores. They install super tight which causes the window glide up and down just like it did originally. The ball bearings are just a temp fix in my opinion. Good video but use the right parts if you can.
That’s all really great advice I appreciate your insight. Take care and welcome to the channel😀👍
Returning both regulator and motors I bought and getting ball bearings thanks my guy
@@rizo916 might save ya a few bucks🤣
I know the video is old but It will help me with my OBS 1994 windows. Also, I think you are the only one who show how to do this on "electric" windows.
I’m glad the video was helpful! A lot cheaper than having to buy a whole new window motor
Great vid! Just had my son do the repairs on my '95 - I had purchased just the plastic "ball bearing" parts for $3 at O'Ri's but they didn't fit so we ended up using a glue stick - it was just a bit smaller around and he cut them to same height. Works great now!
I’m glad that the video was helpful! Using a glue stick is a really neat idea, and I’m happy to hear that it works again for you. Thanks for watching😀👍
Update - well that was a dumb idea!! Ok, it lasted 2 years but still .... took a pick to get all the gummy junk out of the worm gear ... I stupidly purchased *another* set of the plastic parts (I forgot I had done that) and they still didn't fit - go figure! trying another idea. I am resistant to the ball bearing because of the safety issue ... but I'll see how my 'new' fix works tomorrow ... as I reinstall the motor ... again ... 🙄
Glad I found this video as my 1995 OBS has a window that bounces as it tries to up. Weird thing is is PartsGeek has the kit for the repairs but the years listed skip over 1995. Goes from 81-92 and then 96-98. Can’t even select 95. Not sure what would have changed for one year. But I also have a lathe and can turn down some Delrin rod to make the 3 pieces needed. 🤔
Glad you found this video to be helpfu👍! Interesting🤔, I’ve never heard of that problem before. To my knowledge they’re all the same. I would go ahead and try to fix it yourself. Thanks for watching and welcome to the channel😀👍
Thanks, I'll try it out. My window stopped working yesterday.on 95 F-250 .
Great! I’m glad the video was helpful to you😀👍
Thanks for the video man I was just fixing to do more than I needed to to fix my window motor but I bet this is all it is thank you
I’m glad the video was helpful to you. Takes a little work but it’s a huge pay off in the end👍
Great info, That's a forever fix right there.
Steve Stoltz Thanks Steve! It should last forever now. Good to hear from ya!🤙
1994 Ford Explorer, still have to bore one 1/2" hole in the sheet metal's "dimple". I used 7/16" wooden dowel pieces, quiet, strong, free. We'll see how long those last?. Tip: put a small square of paper towel into your nut-driver; the screw stays in tight. DON'T tighten all three until you're sure the gear teeth are meshed with the regulator gear teeth.
Those are all great tips! Using a wooden dowel is really smart and I hope it holds up well for you. Thanks so much for taking the time to watch and comment I sure do appreciate it.😀👍
I have a intake manifold gasket set coming Tuesday for my truck. Gonna replace the plentum gasket and intake gaskets. And see if it helps.
Old Croney's Garage right on man!🤙 Props for taking on the job yourself. I had to replace mine as well about a year ago, but had a mechanic do it. Hopefully that fixes a lot of problems.👍
Bro Thank you so much. I just bought a 1992 F-250 XLT a few months ago, and this is one of my problems with it on the passenger window, and i couldn't find a fix for it without buying a bunch of new parts! Thank you so much for the help. I'm gonna do this to my truck tomorrow!!!
I’m glad you found this video helpful! Good luck working on the truck tomorrow😀👍.
Great video
Thank you!
Nice fix!
357magdad Thanks Magdad!

HODGE_PODGE_DODGE_GARAGE 🤣🤣🤣🤣 That made me crack up Zane!😂 Thanks man I appreciate it!🤙
Can you show us how too change the speakers 🔊
Sorry, but I already sold the truck. However I’m sure it wouldn’t be hard to find someone replacing the speakers in one of these obs fords. Thanks for watching😀👍
Great videos Cody! Luv ya! Miss ya!
Thanks Micah😀! Miss and love you too!🤙

Hey there YDOC,
Where have you been?
The inbox from you
Has been mighty thin.
That old Ford
Is looking good.
The window is workin'
Just like it should.
Nice job Mr. Y. Thanks for the fun! :-)
Mark Randall It’s good to get another awesome poem from ya Mr. R!😀👍
Man your door panel is in good shape. Where did you find them or they original? I seen the aftermarket ones but they don't look like the original ones. I'm in the hunt for some.
degar1877 Thank you. These door panels are actually the original ones to the truck. Besides a small crack on the drivers side panel they are all in fantastic shape. If you’re looking for some I’d highly recommend goin to your local junkyard. You never know what kinda deals you’ll come across. Thanks for watching!👍
Great video 👍
Mountain View Turning Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it😀👍!
Great vid!
Thanks Adam I appreciate it!👍
What a simple low buck fix Cody. Are those balls supposed to act as a clutch?
Sparks Fire and Baling Wire I think so? The only thing that makes sense to me on why they designed it this way was so that the inner plastic pieces would wear out and take the force of the motor first. That way the plastic teeth that interact with the worm gear wouldn’t wear out, but it’s only a theory. It could be as simple as the geniuses at Ford making a terrible design.🤣 Good to hear from ya Jason hope everything’s goin well over in Iowa!
@Philip Murphy I didn’t know that. That’s a pretty smart design. Thanks for watching!😀👍
Nice fix. I'd do that to my Ford as preventive maintenance but there's no window mechanism motor. :-)
;-
murphymb Thanks! Ya you got off easy with your manual windows🤣
@@ydocproductions5593 Sadly, the windows are also my only source of air conditioning.
murphymb I’m in the same boat
Don't be cheap and do this fix. Did it years ago and with no give in the ball bearings they gouge out the metal gear piece and the nylon outer gear ring so the window movement is choppy and noisy. Works for a little while but buy the proper replacement slugs from LMR or other source.
That’s interesting. I guess in order to do the job right the first time, replacing the little plastic pieces is the right way to go. However if ball bearing is all you had on hand at least it would get you down the road for a few more miles I suppose. Thanks for watching and for the great feedback😀👍
How can I clean the carpet in my 99 dodge ram? It's the original carpet with the factory floor mats. But something was sitting on the floor and kinda made it a will nasty. And it having factory floor mats is rare
Old Croney's Garage Well when I went to clean the suburbans carpet I went to my local hardware store to rent a carpet cleaner (cost me some $20-$40) and if you go look at that video it did an EXTREMELY GOOD JOB, but if it’s stained there’s not a whole lot you can do about that. If you want to spend the 12hrs or so it would take to clean it by hand get a soft bristle brush and carpet cleaner soap and a shop vac to suck up the water. Hope that helps🤙
@@ydocproductions5593 thanks man. it means allot to me
Old Croney's Garage Good luck man!👍
Thank you @UCaLVnxkd0cb3eO3M2B26l0A this is what my 95 F150 is doing didnt know about the ball bearing trick thanks for the heads up.
Glad the video was helpful! Ya a few ball bearings is all it takes to get it working again😀👍
Nice! Just saved me a buncha money! Gonna go buy some balls
I’m glad the video could lend a hand! Thanks for watching and welcome to the channel
MY MISTAKE: the wooden dowels cut to the proper height lasted a few months... until the moisture from the grease softened them, and the plastic gears CHEWED them into shreds. Lesson learned! I went back into three motors and used 7/16" zinc ball bearings.
Thanks for posting an update. Sorry to hear the dowels didn’t last too long. I think the ball bearings will sever you better in the long run, and should last the life of the truck👍.
That's a funny sounding window motor
Old Croney's Garage Ya it literally disintegrated🤣
What you guys are not understanding is the nylon pieces are not for a stuck window, or just Ford being cheap, They are for safety in case a child rolls his/her head or body part up into the window, The nylon pieces will shear off and hopefully not kill the child. So DO NOT CHEAP OUT this way
Thanks for the advice! take care
You da man. Great video. You could use some chicks in bikinis tho. Nice outtakes.
Glad the video could be helpful for ya👍
wouldn't get burned if you DISCONNECT BATTERY b4 work
You never know what you can fry
I found out how to tell if the window motor has been replaced if I buy a obs ford lol
Haha I know right!?🤣
Need a different driver for each screw xD
🤣
I just found out I'm the only TH-camr in the HPDG group (I guess you could call it) that doesn't show my face in videos. Or I think I am
Old Croney's Garage That’s true!🤣
@@ydocproductions5593 I need to get a better camera. And maybe I can start editing my videos. And I need to stop stumpling over my words. Well I'm gonna go practice lol
Old Croney's Garage There’s always room for improvement (and for any channel for that matter), but don’t beat yourself up man you have over 200 subs for a reason.🤙
