I never knew I had to check this, but now I almost always have this issue :( I believe it's a problem with my rims! Want another maintenance video? Glad it helped! What rims do you have? Since I've made this video, I've tried another tyre on and have had to do it for that too - I think my basic Syncros rims are the problem here; if my tyres get fully flat for whatever reason, 8 times out of 10, I'd have to do this to get them correctly seated.

      @@TheIndianCyclist I have triban rims... I had a puncture while riding a week ago, changed the tube in very poor light. Rode the bike all bouncy for 1 km and then the tire went flat, tried pumping her up... No go. Had to call my family to come pick me up since walking wearing spd cleats is a serious no no.
      Struggled to get the seating right till I stumbled upon your video.

    • @TheIndianCyclist
      @TheIndianCyclist  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I seldom puncture on the road - mostly they are overnight, slow punctures that I discover before going out for a ride. A few weeks ago I did have to change a tube on the road and as expected, the tyre didn't seat properly. Ride home was definitely irritating, especially since it was the front wheel and I could "see" (and feel) the bump. Not something you can even attempt to redo when you're using a hand pump :D

    Both my front and back tyres are doing this (Trek Domane with the stock Bontrager tyres). Notable “bounce” or spongey feeling when cycling, and on close inspection I have the same issue (tyres appear to dip in and back out when spinning, bead not seated evenly all the way around). Only done 300 miles on it but had flats in both, thinking it’s user error putting the tyres on so I’ll try these tonight.

    • @TheIndianCyclist
      @TheIndianCyclist  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Did you get it fixed? I did not even know to look for this problem earlier. Now unfortunately 4 times out of 5, I run into this - everytime I have to fill the tyre up from flat, there's a good chance it won't seat and I need to bring out the soap. In my case, I think my rims are to blame.

    Pretty much worked like a charm for a bead that dipped into the TL rim. Through a combination of just soap (not soapy water), massaging the tire from the valve to the rest and overinflating, i finally got that PONG sound (i was after the tire was going to blow up at that point)

    • @TheIndianCyclist

      Gotcha - be a bit careful with that because we want to minimize reaction with the tyre, which is why you dilute it. A lot of variables in the mix like type of soap used, tyre compound, amount of soap etc. of course, so it might not have any effect at all, but something to keep in mind.

    I always had the same problem with my bike, a Sprint Whisper, I believe I tried 4 or 5 different types of tires along the years, sometimes I think I had luck, the tire seats properly after the first or second inflate..but now, with my new pair of tires (Maxxis Detonator 700x23C), the problem persist and it is absolutelly annoying..:/...I tried soap, pressure, massage...nothing seems to work...or maybe I am not quite patient? I'm thinking of inflating the tires to arround 150 PSI, wich is much more than the admissible limit. Great video anyway!

    • @TheIndianCyclist
      @TheIndianCyclist  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What a co-incidence, I'm using exactly that tyre on my front wheel - Maxxis Detonator 700x23c. I would still blame the rim and not the tyre, though I guess some really may be harder than others. Sometimes I get lucky with soap - it's a one shot thing. But very recently, I had a pretty hard time and I had to apply the soap 3-4 times before it finally seated right. Make sure the soap solution is not too dilute, is one tip I can share, and otherwise, be ready to deflate just enough to brush soap into the offending area and then pump it up from there. I must say 150 PSI is crazy! I start getting worried at 110 :D Good luck!

      @@TheIndianCyclist Thanks for the good wishes and advices. Last type of tyres I used was Continental Ultra 700x23, I had not so many problems like with the Maxxis, wich makes me think that is not the rim the problem.
