It's a surprise to her fans that there is anyone left who enjoys listening to music who has NOT heard her SING this song. That's a good thing, though, 'cause they can still get to have their first impression of it, which can be fun to watch.
Martina is great. She came out with this right after I left my abusive husband. I lived every word. I love her for this song cause it gives people an in depth look on the dangers and damage of verbal and psychological abuse. The pain is real. When he knew he couldn't physically hurt me cause I fought back he found that he could damage me psychology. I got away from him 7 years ago and I'm doing just fine. To those who read this and are dealing with this now. Stay strong and move forward. It does get better with time. Love and God bless. ❤

Great pick guys! Yes this is definitely real country. Martina McBride got her start to fame when her husband was working on the sound crew for Garth Brooks and Garth gave her an opening spot on his tour in 1990. Just a little info about the verse with the letter and the curtain blowing in the breeze. It was meant to be left open to the interpretation of the listener. You could take it as she left and escaped the abusive relationship or that she jumped out the window committing suicide. It's funny that your initial reaction was that she got outta there and that even when I was a young kid listening to this I thought she jumped out the window. Don't know what that says about me 😜 . But anyways I really love that you guys really listen to the lyrics and try to break them down and make sense of them. As usual you guys are awesome. #freethinkers

Gentlemen.... Mad Respect!!! I realize this video is 9 months old and you may never see this comment. However, I've been running down your list one by one today and it's taken me some time to get to this one. After several thumbs up this is the first comment. I am a middle aged white male that grew up listening to country music but respect and listen to all genres. The very first day I heard this song I was driving down a back road here in Florida and I had to pull over and give it the full listening respect it deserved. The hair on my arms and neck were standing on end. I was so overwhelmed by the song I had to call my buddy Phil Barnhart in Cumberland, TN. to asked if he'd heard it yet....... His reply, "heard it I helped write it".....Now knowing this man (his son and I grew up together) for a long time and him already with 2 #1's as a writer I knew what he was capable of. He has since retired from writing for Sony/Ascap/Tree and moved back to South Florida and is dealing with some health issues. Wow! Most people say country is there least favourite music style, I did when I was a child, as my Dad played the crap out of it :) Now that I'm older, and have had pain, misery and awesome times all together, country music speaks to me.
Still a rock/metal head at heart, but man, I'm a free thinker now too, and appreciate music of all types, as even though it may not connect emotivally with me, it will for someone, and that is the power of music :D

Country and rhythm and blues all come from the heart. No music has more soul, except gospel.
The reason you here so much Blues is because that's where it really comes from. The king of country music is Hank Williams Sr. He was taught by a black blues singer name Rufus Payne at the age of 9 how to play. Go listen to a song by him the Lost Highway or Lovesick Blues. You'll see where it all came from. But if I could suggest a song, probably one of the saddest songs ever written it would be George Jones's He Stopped Loving Her Today. Just a thought for the next time you guys do some more country. Love what y'all do keep up the good work
