Great point. It's like how they say that bravery isn't about not being scared, but about pushing through it. George is terrified of standing up to Biff, but he goes through with it, anyways. Too often, especially nowadays, characters in film and TV seemingly magically overcome their fears before they even face them. They'll then stand up to the bad guy already transformed, with total confidence and eagerness, which isn't realistic. Crispin doesn't do that. You can tell that his character really doesn't want this encounter and is wrestling with "fight or flight." Even after he knocks out Biff, he isn't fully transformed because he starts to walk away when that other kid steals Lorraine for a dance. It takes him a while to gain confidence and do the right thing and Crispin plays it very well.

After hearing this, it's clear how much Tom Wilson really disliked Eric Stoltz's method acting approach. Actors need to be able to flip the switch back to their real personalities, and Stoltz was unable or unwilling to do that while making BTTF. Also, it's a shame that Crispin Glover got so upset at the ending of the movie, and I feel he totally missed the point. He thought that the McFlys were now happy because they were rich, but really it was because George had a burst of confidence at a pivotal time in his life that he was able to be more successful/happy in the new present. We don't even know if they even had any more money (since they were in the same house) but they sure were all happier.

Tom is absolutely right about the importance of that scene. The stakes get so much higher as it's not just about preventing Marty & his brother & sister from being erased and getting him home, but now it's about saving Lorraine from a truly traumatic experience that could have ruined her life. I mean she certainly would not have felt like dating anybody after being raped so she most likely would never have gotten together with George and, given the views about women who got raped back in that time period (that sadly still impact women today), she probably would have faced a lot of harsh judgement and could very well have gone downhill (even more than just alcoholism that she had in the OG timeline). He's also right about it being difficult to play a character that so against who you are in real life. I once played a women in a play that, after tragically losing her child, lashes out at other parents and kills their children so that they know how it feels. I love kids and getting into the mindset of the grief of losing one and then the desire to harm other childen through a need for vengence was deeply disturbing. To combat it I would listen to happy songs or watch comedies at home after a performance. Anyway, he did a great job in the movie and it's nice to know that he's such a good guy.
I always thought the subtext there is that Biff did actually do that to Lorraine in the original timeline. Not that night (but maybe even that night), but at some point, and that was a big part of why she was so adamant about girls not being in parked cars with boys. It wasn't just that she was a hypocrite about her own youth, but that she had been traumatized and had internalized that it was her own fault for getting in the car. Then she married George because she knew he would never hurt her, and because she thought he was weak. Maybe that's reading too much into it, but I always thought there was more to her in the original timeline than just a woman disappointed her life didn't turn out better.
@@jawbone78You make some good points. Now that you mention it, at that dinner when Lorraine is talking to Marty & saying she doesn't like Jennifer for calling Marty on the phone & starts going on about how she never did that or parked in a car with a boy, her anger about that does seem very specific & a bit of an overreaction. As good as he and Crispin were in that scene Tom is right here, it really is her that sells the danger and makes that scene real. She comes across as completely genuine in that moment.

Christopher Lloyd and Lea had worked together prior to BTTF, but their characters never spoke to each other onscreen until Lorraine tracks down Marty to ask him to the Enchantment Under the Sea Dance. And then all they did was say hi to each other.
This was so awesome thanks so much for sharing this awesome video with us, I got to me all three of these wonderful actors a few years back at wizard world, look forward to checking out your other videos just subbed.

But I am thinking of making one or two videos sometime this year.....just to show my new room full of BTTF items.
Then again I actually knew a Biff back in my first year of college. He looked just like Biff Tannen but in reality was the complete opposite of Mr. Tannen.
It's kind of odd that in a movie that had such lightheartedness, Biff wasn't an otherwise likeable bad guy who Marty could befriend later. That would be the usual formula for such a movie. The guy was a f'ng psycho, and he committed felonies.
Oh that Biff has personality plus. Every single thing in BTTF is beyond great. Like Salieri said in "Amadeus" = "Take away one note, and the structure will fall."
As a kid I didn't understand the gravity of just how bad of what Biff was planning to do to her. Seeing as all I thought couples did was suck face lol.
That would be hard, because Biff really was presented as irredeemable, except in the improved future where he was completely neutered and uninteresting.
@@theevilascotcompany9255 That’s why it would be considered a parody. We know that Biff is a real a$$hole, so doing a real spin-off would be pointless, but it’s in the spirit of shows and movie spin-off from iconic villains that have been done recently

@@jawbone78 No. Loraine was just a hypocrite. George did what he did in both timelines. It's pretty much physically impossible for him to rape her in that car.
That's so cool of Tony Stark to host.
Lmao!
I was thinking the exact same thing!!!
Well this was at The Stark Expo.
I thought it was the "Cinema Snob" Brad Jones. :O
@@Egobyte83 OMG! It is. I've watched this video before but didn't recognize him. This was back when he had hair!
When Tom was having problems doing the scene, Lea should have knocked on his head and said "Hello? Anybody home? It's just acting, THINK, Tom, THINK!"
Love it!
Wow! The quintessential bully, and it was so much against nature he wasn't sure he could do it.
Usually its these such actors that do the best job.
@@futurefinds3459 Yup! Anthony Hopkins as Dr. Hannibal Lector comes to mind...
Rachel McAdams as Regina George, too. She’s the opposite of that character.
So he really had to dig down and call on the memories of all the bullies in his life, and rolled them into one hilariously awful, over-the-top, memorable character. He did a fantastic job!
I've always thought it's brilliant that he can do the voice and be genuinely intimidating, then in interviews you see how gentle and kind he is. That's real acting.
Tom, I just stumbled across your question song. I know…so late to the party! I think it is hilarious so I googled you and actually am very pleased to read about your faith. Thanks for sharing yourself with us!
Even though it is sad to think Tom was bullied as a child, it's those experiences he was able to reflect on and recreate through acting.
Don't know why but these past few days I wanna just watch the whole back to the future trilogy.
I know why. They're great films. I tend to alternate watching the BTTF trilogy and the Star Wars trilogy every 6 months.
What a great detail about his personality. I often think about how the whole trilogy worked, because his performance was so consistently maniacal.
THANK YOU for posting this! I am so glad I got to see this extra measure of how wonderfully human Tom is. Until I seen his TH-cam channel I kinda thought he played the role of Biff too well, and had to be a jerk. Was I ever wrong! And so glad I was wrong! He's a damn good actor for sure. Again - thank you for posting this 👍
Thank you for watching and commenting. Yes he is a very good natured man, very nice. Soon I will be meeting him for the 3rd time
Seen a few vids of Tom Wilson now, he comes across as a lovely man..
He really is a great guy
KEEP THE CAMERA STEADY, there, Federico Fellini.
It makes me smile so much every time I see an interview or clip with Thomas F Wilson, he's such a big teddy bear sweetheart in real life oh my gosh. What a great guy! :)
Very nice guy. I saw him this past weekend, and he has not lost his charm and personality. Same can be said with Lea.
@@futurefinds3459 That's awesome! Glad to hear he's doing well. I've seen too many stories of people like this who have a huge role in something and were very famous for a few years but then the fame goes away and their lives go to crap and they turn to drugs and stuff, very very sad. Usually its younger people but still. Glad Thomas is living a happy, healthy life. :)
@@futurefinds3459how nice is she do they have email
Great video! It's always great to find more details about this timeless materpiece called "Back To The Future".
Leah calling herself out. That’s hilarious.
Playing a really bad guy just proves what a great actor Tom is.
I agree
Good to hear the behind the scene stuff as always and REALLY great to see that they are decent people!
Yes they are great to chat with in person
AAAAAAAYYYYY Great video! Love seeing them out of character. Tom Wilson should of gotten more roles. He's a really funny guy.
Absolutely fantastic! Must've been wonderful seeing Lea Thompson aswell. Thank you for posting, really enjoyed it.
Thank you for your reply! Yes it was great seeing Lea and all of them in person. Lea is very sweet and will actually take a moment to chat with you when you come to her table. Same with Tom he is very polite and funny. Michael and Chris......because of Chris' age and Michael's condition, their handlers wont allow "chit-chat" at their tables. I hope you have the chance to see them one day!
@@futurefinds3459 Thanks for this video. How is Michael getting n these days?
@@Dreamskater100 I was supposed to see him in Seattle for comic con earlier this year but the pandemic cancelled everything. There is a video floating around that is a "get together" streaming video with him and other cats members. They looked and sounded great!
After seeing this, I now feel sorry for Biff. He was raised by his Grandmother so we don’t know what was the reason why his parents weren’t around. For all we know his parents both or one bullied and criticized him as a kid.
Very observant. I think this is explained in the comics
Well consider this. His great great grandfather was mad dog Tanen.
Sure he probably had a rough childhood, but don't forget this is the same guy who was sexually abusing loraine and actually killed George McFly in the alternate 1985. I don't feel bad for that character, love the actor tho lol
up until the scene in the car, you think Biff is a mostly harmless bully, push people around, that sort of thing. Its not until the scene in the car that you realize Biff is capable of much more harm and George is in real trouble if his punch doesn't knock Biff out.
Its starts off small
As good as he and Crispin were in that scene Tom is right here, it really is her that sells the danger and makes that scene real. She comes across as completely genuine in that moment.
"George! Help me! Please!"
And now I'm envisioning Tom sitting around before and between takes, angsting like Marty in the car with his mom.
Tom Wilson played the best on screen bully ever
He was a good one thats for sure.
Lea Thompson may be difficult - but she sure still looks great in her 50s.
Butthead looks amazing what a soft amazing guy he is he was probably a little traumatized playing a loud violent bully like Biff Tannen
He is a great guy to chat with....all of them are. Hope you get to meet them one day
What a great guy he is that he apologized to Lea that way. It’s amazing.
Both Christopher Lloyd and Tom Wilson guest starred on NCIS.
"Hey you, get your damn hands off her!"
actually I was looking forward to seeing the secret audience character to be gary busey listening to tom sing the classic song in front of him
Wow was it just 5 years ago where a youtube video could put the word "rape" in a description? Don't know why I'm bothering to note this, no one will ever see it.
Hope you enjoyed the context of the video though, rather than focusing on just the title of a video
When they fired Stoltz do you think Zemekis said, "So make like a tree, and get outta here!"?
Top three villians imo. Evil Ash, the metal head man from Mr. Nanny, and Biff
Hey a zanitos shout out! Cromedome
That was a great video! Thanks for sharing! I was wondering how they were Tom actually felt with doing that scene.
Welcome! Thanks for the comment, glad you enjoyed it!
I'm sure he doesn't like talking or thinking about that scene even after all these years. It's like he's still apologizing to Lea. Btw ... is that Lea from the past? She doesn't look a day over 40 here (or is this an old video just recently uploaded?), seriously. So beautiful!
Thanks for the comment! This is from Boston Comic Con in 2018
Maybe she went to a rejuvination clinic back in 2015
Tom Wilson reminds me of Clancy Brown…both great actors known for playing villains but in real life they’re both gentle giants
Margaret Hamilton owned her role, and was a sweetheart in real life
A hero's a hero, but everyone loves a great villain
No future without Biff. He was perfect just like rest of the cast why this trilogy is so special.
This was awesome thank you for posting
Welcome! Glad you enjoyed the video!
Wow! The nostalgia I’m feeling right now! I was serving my first tour in the U.S. Navy when the first Back To The Future came out! Thanks for bringing back great memories!
Glad I could bring back good memories! Thank you for your military service!
Yes, it's almost like you know where you were when you first saw it, like when JFK died.
My favorite trilogy of all time! Thanks for sharing.
Welcome!
Old man biff was great, probably my favourite. A widened character that could see his own errors, not necessarily wanting to change for the better, but you could tell he was met with a realisation at some point.
Oh my god... Tom Wilson is a terrific actor and a great human. And there are people in comments who say that they were talking to him in person - guys, you are soooo lucky...
I wish Tom to live long and happy life full of joy. Who's with me?
Thank you for your comment! Yes Tom is a very great person to talk with, and does not have the common attitude of blowing off people. I have seen him a few times and have a photo with him. I really hope you get the same chance to meet him one day soon!
@@futurefinds3459 Great, now you made me cry :D
Thank you for responding, as I said - you are *very* lucky ;)
@Brian Dahlen People, Oh my god, you all are so lucky... Thanks for such a great story ;)
Deep. One of the greatest film scenes of all time
I would love to see him in a bit part in a movie where he knocks out the bully and says the line " I really hate bullies."
Lea Thompson has aged like a fine wine...
Tom looks like he's welling up speaking about it
Its sad that George mcfly didn't showed up lmao he was still upset with the directors
Christopher Lloyd and Lea had worked together prior to BTTF, but their characters never spoke to each other onscreen until Lorraine tracks down Marty to ask him to the Enchantment Under the Sea Dance. And then all they did was say hi to each other.
I really enjoyed her performances in Back to the Future, but to me, her performance in Red Dawn was my absolute favorite.
She played a great role there. WOLVERINES!!!!!!!!!!!
Talk about actors that never got adequate recognition. All of his characters were amazing.
Weird seeing her with Christopher Lloyd. They didn’t have one second of screen time even though they probably chatted on set.
yes they did have screen time. Go back and watch the film
Oh yes uncle doc. Forgot about that
Tom: I'm so sorry I'm making you cry.
Leah: *_IT'S A MOVIE!_*
This was so awesome thanks so much for sharing this awesome video with us, I got to me all three of these wonderful actors a few years back at wizard world, look forward to checking out your other videos just subbed.
Thanks for the comment! Which Wizard World did you go to? Was it in Philadelphia? Yes please check out my other videos and comment on them. I havent made new videos in a long time because of low subs and viewership (but the subs I notice is over 100 now and it seems like it is growing fast). But I am thinking of making one or two videos sometime this year.....just to show my new room full of BTTF items.
Then again I actually knew a Biff back in my first year of college. He looked just like Biff Tannen but in reality was the complete opposite of Mr. Tannen.
I had a "Biff" in my day too
Marsters talks about how disturbed he was shooting the scene where spike SA's buffy. For the actors, these scenes are no joke.
Now, my friends, make like a tree and _get out of here!_
Ha, ha!
My favorite scene ( who you calling Butt-Head, Butt-Head. Just get in the car tannen, this is your lucky day )"
Tom Wilson looks just like how he was shown in the movie at this age
It's kind of odd that in a movie that had such lightheartedness, Biff wasn't an otherwise likeable bad guy who Marty could befriend later.
That would be the usual formula for such a movie. The guy was a f'ng psycho, and he committed felonies.
As Tom would say "Its a movie".
@@futurefinds3459 I’m actually impressed with that aspect. They didn’t take a formulaic route.
I love how they all ended up looking better than the movie predicted.
Oh that Biff has personality plus. Every single thing in BTTF is beyond great. Like Salieri said in "Amadeus" = "Take away one note, and the structure will fall."
this is so nice, thank you for sharing this!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Just saw this clip thanks for showing it
Welcome! Glad you enjoyed it
He helped make it the masterpiece that it is. Kudos to the casting director… after a significant alteration
I find it funny that Tom and Lea look like they could be a power couple
As a kid I didn't understand the gravity of just how bad of what Biff was planning to do to her. Seeing as all I thought couples did was suck face lol.
Is that Brad Jones aka the Cinema Snob as the Q&A host/moderator?
Not sure who it is
You cannot have a great hero without a great villain. Tom Wilson gave those movies that.
Very true.
Tom Wilson seems like such a wonderful guy. Unfortunately, he was typecasted after Back to the Future and wasn't able to get the roles he deserved.
I agree
Lea Thompson is so beautiful
Tom should do an iconic villain spinoff parody with Biff since they’ve done a Creed movie and a Cobra Kai series.
The spinoff could be of older, powerful, rich Biff running things from his Pleasure Paradise when Marty is in Switzerland.
Biff World.
I just love Tom Wilson, such a nice guy, in complete contrast to Biff 😄 The profound look of shock on Biff's face when Marty jumps the building in BTTF2, that is just one of my favorite cinema moments ever.
Thomas was always one of my favorite villains lol even as a kid he was so horrible and hilarious. And I really Really love how he played Mad Dog Tannen I think he was so great at that character. 🤣😂
When I saw him in person, I told him that I thought of all 3 films, I thought his best performance was Mad Dog. The make-up, the look, mannerisms, and the ability to ride a horse and throw a rope, all make him look like he was born to be in westerns (aside from the comedy lines he said while playing the part)
Thomas is so sweet off screen! ❤❤❤
Ahh... Biff. What a character. Always trying to get away with something.
Tom Wilson was pretty much cast out of nowhere as Biff. Brilliant casting and perfect performances in all 3 movies. I still love Lea Thomson…
4:19 what's that BTTF comic book in the background, that looks like a compelling cover.
MAD magazine #260
Biff, that character makes the movie great. Tom Wilson makes the character so real.
