Drayton Hall in Charleston, South Carolina

Drayton Hall was built in 1738 and is located on the banks of the Ashley River, less than 15 miles from downtown Charleston, South Carolina. Drayton Hall is the oldest unrestored plantation house in America still open to the public (since 1974).

If visiting Drayton Hall, I recommend taking an official house tour. Tour guides are professional, enthusiastic, and well versed in the history of Drayton Hall and other historic homes. You can also do a self guided tour of the grounds by scanning the QR code in the welcome center brochure. The welcome center includes a gift shop and well maintained restrooms.
