This is a pocketable emulation station. We have WiFi and Bluetooth as well as HDMI!, you can easily connect 4 Bluetooth controllers and play any game, even on 16:9. I don't understand why not one of the big retro emulation TH-camrs have gone through this angle. You can have retroachievements, you can play any 16:9 game from the PSP or dreamcast with buddies. The unique value proposition of this... instead of buying retropi setups, just buy this and you have a console that has EVERYTHING you need. No need for a case, as it's clamshell. It's small enough to be pocketable, bit enough once opened. Has close-lid suspend mode! This is a DREAM.

So far, the best DS-like device for emulating is the Surface Duo. I had the first model, and it was good for ds, but not for 3ds. Some games worked, but most didn't.
Imo its best to use controller+phone in vertical mode to emulate that. Or just buy a 2ds xl or something used. So rg35xxsomething + 2ds xl + rog ally for everything newer (like ps2 or switch) would be a complete package. Not that i have that much time to play lol. I'll just stick to 35xxsp, at least it's cheap lol.

Dropping a random piece of copper or aluminum in there is simply gonna spread out the heat underneath the battery and make it bulge more evenly. You need to move the heat away from the battery not distributed evenly underneath the battery.
Only issue I see with that is you’re going to have that heat laying more directly on battery and even less of an air gap. Even if it does disperse it better. I’d like to see tests on it with and without before I made that change myself.

My wife needs rain sounds so I ripped a 10 hour rain track off a you tube video and play that every night, BUT... my wife has excellent night time hearing so even the clicking from the start button or shoulder buttons on my OG RG350 can disturb her, naturally I try to just play games that primarily use the A B X Y buttons as they use a rubber membrane.
I feel like the "analog sticks" will have to sit pretty flush with the screen because of the clamshell design and not have much range of movement. That along with it being vertical and assuming that it keeps similar dimensions to the sp I just can't picture being very comfortable or practical to use and will just give it a more cluttered look overall. I think anbernic picked the smarter way to do it. It keeps the simplicity and nostalgia of the old SP. I won't be heartbroken if I can't use it to play "Ape Escape". I'll stick to what the form factor works best for. 8 and 16 bit systems, with a smattering of those higher end ones.
@@ben66562 yep and the Miyoo A30 can barely run those systems anyways. If i wanna play a game that requires analog sticks I'll use actual nice analog sticks on a nice screen. For me extra processing power just means you can go crazy with shaders
fingers crossed the hinge is as robust as the Official SP. Got mine on release day, had it in my pocket(as a kid, way rougher than now!) for years and besides being a little loose it is still going strong!
in my country it gets very hot and in this design with the battery right against the cpu/gpu with no heat shield or anything im afraid if i go on a train trip and take out the rg35xxsp the battery will go boom after a while
you should try to replace the tactile button pads with original gba tactile button pads and see if it makes the d pad and buttons feel more natural. personally i would love to know if that works, because i hate clicky, stiff buttons, but i really like this handheld design.

Yes, a copper plate that is insulated from eelectricity on both sides - would be a nice modification. Also need analogs, I understand that it will break the athenticity, but the functionality is more important.
Its quite funny to me hearing the disappointment at dome switches because im the opposite, rubber conductive buttons would have been a deal breaker. Those switches look very similar to the sp's which is one of my favorite dpads. In fact the original gba has in my opinion one of the worst dpads ever while the sp ranks pretty high for me. Both tops the vita dpad though
I bought from anbernic direct and amazon, the one from amazon came with little felt pads on the triggers, volume, and power buttons. The one from anbernic didnt. I added felt padding on the other sp also did the dpad and buttons on both, quieter and shorter travel. The amazon one came with 2 screen protectors and a sticker. I'm using modded stock os, it has more apps and themes, random boot logo is nice.
i definitely need one with a little thumb stick, even an OG PSP style sliding thumbstick would have been acceptable. Specifically for PSP and n64 games. Some of the PSP games i play require the thumb stick so that's just a deal breaker. Shame too, since i really like the fold up formfactor. I can stuff it in my purse without having to worry about the screen.

Yes. It also has a Mini HDMI port so you can plug it into a TV and use it as a mini console. Honestly, because of HDMI and Bluetooth controller support , I don't even care that this doesn't have analog sticks. It's simple and sleek for on the go gaming while being full featured when I'm at home. It's perfect.
use the white foam cutout that came with the device when opening it up, also use with other devices. I'm pretty sure thats what its for. I was able to play my favorite psp game, fight night round 3 using the dpad. I just used L2+dpad for dpad control because main control is the stick.
Another channel did a weight test on the buttons, comparing it to the GBA and other handhelds. These buttons are heavier, requiring more force. If they fix the buttons and Dpad, they'll have my money.
I'd love a small heat sink mod and like a thin piece of heat resistant material right under the battery to go in-between the two. I'll prolly figure something out too haha

@@gustavovm491 Thermal pads might be too thick but they are elastic. Thin copper plates (1mm) are available on amazon, not that cheap but ok pricing. But I cant take measurements atm, obsviously

Dual SD slot, HDMI out, software on/off button, nice, but mono speaker, no analogue and only one USB-C port It's a great looking device, really has an upgraded V90 feel to it BUT... I don't understand the deal with designing a device that can emulate PS1, N64, Dreamcast and PSP but NOT have analogue sticks, didn't we just get a clamshell device smaller than this WITH dual analogue sticks?? Granted my black V90 could do around 100 PS1 games (though i use my OG RG350 for everything up to PS1 and with a 512GB card in it i can carry around a LOT of PS1 games) I use my V90 and 128GB card for everything up to SNES, TG-CD and Sega CD. Granted the V90 has issues with Star Fox, F-Zero and Yoshi's Island, I don't think the RG35XXSP will replace my V90. I'm waiting for a Linux device with all the buttons and Ports of the RG350P with the power of the Retro Pocket 4 pro. That will be my 3rd and final device as I've always wanted a portable device that can play the 6th gen of gaming consoles for nearly a quarter century even since I discovered emulation and devices like the GP32.
Yup, that was me when I bought the OG RG350 late after it's unveiling... only to see a leaked grainy video 3 hours later announcing the METAL RG350M. =( Thank god these things are relatively inexpensive.
Feel all the complaints about form factor mention can be used against the original device. For me and probably most people, this will be my definitive retro console for Gameboy and 16 bit home system games

Got my RG35XX SP yesterday and was super excited for it to replace my Miyoo Mini Plus, but there's been one glaring issue that ruins the entire device for me! The screen is SUPER smudgey looking! It could be the fault of the included screen protector that I installed before booting the device, but now I'm too scared to remove it for fear of damaging the screen or it not being the actual issue. I've used both the Stock OS and muOS and the blurriness is present in both despite disabling all Shaders and Overlays. I'm fairly certain it's a hardware issue at this point. Incrediblely disappointed since I actually really like how the RG35XX SP fits in my hand more than the Miyoo Mini Plus. I can play Crash Bandicoot 2 much more efficiently on this device than a vertical on. 3D games certainly hide the almost textured screen much more, but SNES games like Earthbound with large single color zones on the screen make it incredibly noticable at all times. I'm probably gonna return this if AliExpress allows it. Anbernic has really lost my trust on this one; I'm going to wait for the Miyoo Mini Flip to get shown off. Hopefully it has a better chipset that will make more use out of the Analog sticks.
prolly gonna be a large flat aluminum or brass plate, Retro Game Corps reported there is space between the battery and CPU, the battery does not touch the CPU so a heat sink mod is very possible. =D
ETA did make the video. Unfortunately it wasn't considered a successful mod and he set it to private not long afterwards. The discussion about the heat sink mod is still up over on the SBC subreddit.

SP was by far the best for the gameboy series. IMO.

Same. There's a Miyoo Mini Flip floating around somewhere that has joysticks on it but we'll see if it ever materializes.
The SP will sell like hotcakes. It will be their most successful device.

Maybe a thin aluminum or copper plate like on low powered laptops can fit in. Or one of those stickers for NVME drives.

If you use MuOS v11 you have the flycast extreme core. This will give you max. Speed for DC emulation.

The screen is SUPER smudgey looking! It could be the fault of the included screen protector that I installed before booting the device, but now I'm too scared to remove it for fear of damaging the screen or it not being the actual issue.
I've used both the Stock OS and muOS and the blurriness is present in both despite disabling all Shaders and Overlays. I'm fairly certain it's a hardware issue at this point.
Incrediblely disappointed since I actually really like how the RG35XX SP fits in my hand more than the Miyoo Mini Plus. I can play Crash Bandicoot 2 much more efficiently on this device than a vertical on.
3D games certainly hide the almost textured screen much more, but SNES games like Earthbound with large single color zones on the screen make it incredibly noticable at all times.
I'm probably gonna return this if AliExpress allows it. Anbernic has really lost my trust on this one; I'm going to wait for the Miyoo Mini Flip to get shown off. Hopefully it has a better chipset that will make more use out of the Analog sticks.
defo want to see the mod on the CPU cooler/battery insulation
prolly gonna be a large flat aluminum or brass plate, Retro Game Corps reported there is space between the battery and CPU, the battery does not touch the CPU so a heat sink mod is very possible. =D

he got flak for it since he basically moded it so the cpu heat goes directly into the battery, it is a safety hazard
So it is not recommended ?

cool design, great price. but, it looks really REALLY cheap and so does the stock OS, definitely would need to flash a cfw immediately.
