      +chobbler gobbler cobber it's a 4g63, it's just a 2.0T that came in quite a lot of cars. While it is a good motor, this video was focusing more on the oddball engines that have weird layouts.

      That's not an MX-3 instrument cluster. The real thing has simple white-on-black dials and the tacho is red-lined at 7,000 rpm.

    Nice video VisioRacer! Here goes one curiosity: in Brazil, Fiat has taken the Coupé 2.0T engine and created a turbo version of the Fiat Marea! That's right, we've got Marea Turbo down here - and I've had 2 of them. My current Marea is a 2004 modified to run on ethanol (yeah we do that here too) and 350+ hp. Great ride!

    EPIC VIDEO +VisioRacer !!!
    If I could make *one tiny suggestion*, you should try *leaving the NAMES/engines of the vehicles up on screen for longer (maybe the entire clip)*, because every now and then I like to move to the next vehicle, and it's hard to tell sometimes.
    (Not a complaint WHATSOEVER, just a constructive criticism =D. Love your vids.)

  • @vulcanproject

    5 cylinder engines always sound fantastic. Every SI 5 cylinder ever made sounds wonderful. Volvo and Audi built a lot, and they all sounded brilliant. They are slightly off beat and fruity. They are also now nearly dead, mainly because the quest for efficiency everything is downsized. So enjoy them while you can.

    • @joostinatortje
      @joostinatortje 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +vulcanproject I know, thats the main reason I bought a 2003 Golf mk4 V5 170hp as my first car! Just so I can remember the beautifull sound of the V5 the rest of my life and so that I can tell my grandchildren that i once drove a V5 engine :'). If you want to see a soundcheck video with stock exhaust, look at my channel. Video with supersprint exhaust will be coming soon ;)!

    • @vulcanproject
      @vulcanproject 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Joost Giesbers I bought a car 7 or 8 years ago just because I loved the sound of the engine :p haha Ford Focus ST which was fitted with a 2.5L 5 cylinder turbocharged Volvo engine. The engine sound sold me over all the other 4 cylinder alternatives, but it certainly cost you in fuel consumption. A price worth paying :p

    • @heros2110
      @heros2110 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +vulcanproject So is the MX-3 V6. Too much friction regarding that displacement because of more moving parts than an i-4. Does my i-4 1.8 liter N/A drives as fast as this? Sure. Does it sound as good as the V6? Hmm... :D

      yeah, I have the C70 T5, if you compare specs of a 1980's ferrari they are pretty close, front wheel drive though until they introduced the R AWD models. but even the 94 850 T5 that was raced in the BTCC showed how fierce it was :)

    I recently purchased a 99 Saab 9-3 SE HOT and it is surprisingly fast (Turned the boost up a bit haha) for a turbo 4 from back then. I found out after the purchase that it's got one of Saab's best engines in it. Feature it on one of your future 'Ordinary Cars With Extraordinary Engines' Videos, because it does not look fast, but it sure can be!

  • @BlueXonar
    @BlueXonar 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I think the Corolla T-Sport should have been included personally. :)
    The pre facelift in particular was an unsuspecting looking Corolla hatchback, no bodykit, no anything, and it had a 190BHP 1.8L L4 which revved to nearly 8300RPM with a cam change/lift at 6200RPM. It could outstrip a Civic Type R in a straight line, and looked like something that would be driven by a pensioner.
    A production sleeper... And yes I have one! Though in my case a facelift, because I couldn't handle the pensioner look.

  • @YensR
    @YensR 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice! Glad to see two inline fives in there. Audi built inline fives way back from the second generation Audi 100 (C2 / Type 43). And I just love the sound of them, great stuff again!

    • @YensR
      @YensR 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +zeroyon223 No we didn't - it seems the Rafaga with the inline 5 was only sold in Japan and Honda did use the engine in some other cars, none of which (I think) came to Europe. Very interesting, I had no idea this engine existed!
      Forgot to mention, Mercedes also had some inline 5 diesel engines for rather patient movement: OM602 and OM617 in the 70s/80s.

      I too had a stock Fiat 20VT Coupe for around 3 years. No issues for me at all, except that it was designed as a Grand Tourer and so the suspension wasn't set up for twisty English B roads. Very, quick car in a straight line and easily did 155mph on a German Autobahn, and could cruise all day at 120mph! Think they were all built at the Pininfarina factory and not Fiat's factory. I found the build quality and reliability very good. Even for a 20 year old car it sounded awesome, and looked awesome (admittedly needing larger wheels, lower profile tyres/tires, and adjustable dampers to make the most of the awesome engine). Always really wanted a Delta Integrale, so this was the closest I could get in a right habd drive car for my money!

      Paul Vallanace. Yup, had one for 5 years. Handling as you mentioned. Don't forget the retro dash! They didn't sell well either, people found the shape a bit odd. Mine was yellow as well and mates used to tease me about driving about in a banana. I got very little money for it. Should have kept it.

      +The stang And there is your problem right there. Americans think that if you have 700 bhp makes a car "better". So having less power, but lighter, able to put down the traction and having superb handling are all none essential aspects. Just so long as you get can get from one traffic light to the next.

    Always nice to see people keeping older performance cars from less popular brands alive. Besides Audi S-series there are some very interesting cars that make every car enthusiast glad to see, in streets filled with dreary family saloons and 2wd SUV´s it´s nice to see a different car that is kept in good condition.

  • @maddoctor99

    I'm not going to say "you missed this" because there are hundreds of extraordinary engines out there from across the decades. I liked your selection for sure. Another that I always liked was the Japanese March Super Turbo from 1988. A 1.0 litre Nissan Micra (aka March) with not just a Turbocharger but a supercharger ALSO bolted on for shits and giggles. 7.7 seconds to 60mph (102kph) in stock trim which - back in the late '80s was almost unheard of. The supercharger was incredibly sophisticated for the time too. Massive respect to Nissan for that gem.

    I really like you just didn't go for the obvious choices and mixed it up. I love the fact most people would laugh looking at most of these cars and then they would still cream most things on the road today

    I actually missed his speaking and intro music just as long as we get motor sounds alone by them selves during those parts, otherwise nice sounds during this video, thank you, love your videos and channel, definitely one of my favorites 😁👍

    The majority of Volvos from 1994-2014 had either turbocharged inline-5s or N/A inline-5s. The halo 'performance cars' from Volvo's 5 cyl era were the S60R (2.5L dual VVT turbocharged) and the 850 T-5R (2.3L turbocharged). Both came with an option for manual and the S60R (and it's estate twin, the V70R) both came with a Haldex powered 4WD system as standard.

    Nice. Well put together, really good choices and some good info there man. Enjoyed it. How about on your next one covering the engine noise with tinny eurotechno? No? Only joking! Shit i hate those.....👍🏿

    Love your videos, but the Safrane Biturbo is anything but "ordinary"! Same for the Omega Lotus! xD
    Anyway, if you do another of these, maybe a Xantia V6 would fit in this category?
    Keep up the good work on this channel. I saw in the comments that you sometimes hesitate between text and voiceovers. I would say, it depends on what you want to say! If your topic is nice engine sounds, then text. But if you want to explain the history of a car, or of a race, or of an engineer, etc... then you need details and the voice would be more comfortable.
    It's your channel after all : do what you like! Cheers from France! :D

    I think the Passat W8 of the early 2000s qualifies as an ordinary car with an engine more extraordinary than most of those here. The 4.0L W8 is a unique arrangement that was never used in any other production car. It was increased in cylinder count for some Audi, VW, Bentley, and Bugatti cars, but the W8 was never repeated.

    If I could make one tiny suggestion, you should try leaving the NAMES/engines of the vehicles up on screen for longer (maybe the entire clip), because every now and then I like to move to the next vehicle, and it's hard to tell sometimes.
    (Not a complaint WHATSOEVER, just a constructive criticism =D. Love your vids.)

    At 7:54 you mention that the Lotus Omega/Carlton was made in only one colour. While that is correct, it is not called "British Racing Green" (non metallic colour), it's "Imperial Green" (metallic), which looks black, in all but direct sunlight
    .

    interesting lil fact: the mazda v6 k series was co-designed with people that worked with porsche. along with the fact that some porsche designers helped with the design of the 323f (astina-which had the 2.0 variant of the k series v6......i really miss mine, but unfortunately i liked to hear her sing too often which probably killed her)
