Found this after watching dead and comp play this..it was never supposed to be the same or compared..the music never stops. John didn't take Jerry's place.. Bob moved to make room for John..keep the music going
Saw them do it in Old Boston Gahden with My late Brother Michael. When I hear this tune I try to imagine My Brother Michael, Jerry and Robert Hunter just Hanging around talking. Throw in Brent Mydland and it’s like , what more could you ask for. God Bless em all. 🙏
The music never stops. Love this song. Blessed to see the Dead a dozen or so times in the mid to late 80's. One show at Laguna Seca Raceway with Los Lobos and David Lindley and El-Rayo X, along with silver, blue and gold camo blotter remains cherished in my memory, but they were all memorable in one way or another. RIP Jerry, Brent, Pigpen, and all the others. What a long, strange trip it's been.
These were the Grateful Dead years I loved - after they got rid of Donna Godchaux. Every show they did at the UpTown Theater in Chicago from '80 to '83, I was at.
If you don’t listen to 72-78 because of Donna, you’re missing the best the Dead ever played. 75-78 Donna sounds fantastic. Listen to basically any show from May 77 and tell me she isn’t the best singer in the band. She wasn’t given proper equipment by the band in 72-74 so she couldn’t hear herself. Still think she sounded good in the majority of songs even during that time. Sure the Playin screams were rough but the feminine energy really balanced the band out. Fall/winter 1973 she was out bc she was pregnant. You can find some gems in that time without Donna. 12/19/73 for example
Nice early Mydland era rendering. Never cared for the patch that Brent used on BEW. And not Jerry's best solo. However, it's still the GD, and there was no one like them and never will be.
@@caleb5035 My take is he doesn't like to watch Jerry Garcia singing because he knows JG will die in 1995 of a heart attack after years of ill health from diabetes and addiction.
This may be my favorite version ... or, at least, my favorite version right now
Saw 4 times in 70's. Don't remember much..
