This is what a comparison video should be! In my opinion the Fender sounds really good, but the Sadowsky sounds great. I prefer the clarity of the Sadowsky, especially for the more lyrical lines you played. To me the Fender, especially the neck pickup, sounds muddy. I’d be more than happy with the Fender, but I would prefer the Sadowsky.
Sadowsky with better tone blend spectrum and while it sounds a little tame, I find the Fender a little untameable. Maybe thats what others mean by "more character" but for me sits less nice in the mix and sometimes sounds less precise even though you play perfectly on point. On the other hand, I find the percussive sounds with plek and slap way better from the Fender. The extra attack puts him in place! Thanks for doing these. Great as always!
Nice video. Both sound good in your hands. The Fender held it's own well against a bass that sells for more then double the price. As a Sadowsky and Fender Deluxe player, there in no better preamp than the Sadowsky. For me the nod goes to Sadowsky for fit n finish, finger feel, and the mellow, clear tone.
I think if you like Fender tones(I do) Fender wins. But I love a warmer tone as opposed to the Sadowsky which has a more sterile sound, not bad by any means just not my preference. The price deference is astronomical though.
Great comparison, Excellent playing and choice of tunes. When I play Jazz Basses I prefer the 70s location. But on the P/J I like the 60s position better. The pickup blend is less nasal to my ears. I have a 70s location P/J with EMGs and a BTC EQ.I never liked using the J pickup In the blend and even soloed. Way too quiet by itself in comparison to the p bass pickup. I just installed a EMG Musicman pickup. Moved it as far forward as possible without having to cut into the pick guard. At first I was a bit underwhelmed. I suppose I was expecting more of a musicman sound out of the pickup. That did not happen. So I angled the pickup so that the front section of the pickup was much closer to the strings than the bridge section and that is a huge improvement over the P/J combo. The two pickups are now equal volume, and by itself the MM pickups sounds like a fat J pickup with a sheen and clarity but it doesn't overpower the front part of the pickup. It is a really great sound. I still don't really like the blend of the P and the MM pickups. It's more like one or the other for me. But on either end if I mix in a tiny bit of the other pickup it's not bad.
@@ObraBass yeah because the Febder sounds like a Febder and very traditional and what we are all used too. The Sadowsky just a modern take on the same sound.
The mids on the Fender are so much nicer. They pop out and give you the definition you expect. I prefer the bridge-pickup-only tones on the Sadowski, but I own a PJ bass and have never used the bridge pickup alone on any gig or recording.
Nice, I think the Fender is just a bit more aggressive sounding and not quite as warm..But that all goes out the window in a band mix situation probably a plus.
And that's how you do a comparison ! Great playing not too flashy but very musical. Thks man ! Fender lack a little of "suaviness" (?) in melodic register, whatever the Sadowsky is more in the price range of American Ultra Precision and The Yamaha BB ( 2024 or BP34 ), 2 greats contenders
Both look great. My personal opinion for looks/color scheme goes to Fender. However, the Sadowsky is built by people who actually care about the product & the end user. That's not to say that if the Fender is setup properly, it's pretty sweet. If I had to pick one, I'd settle for a good setup on the Fender. But the Sadowsky destroys it.
Both nice PJ's but being a Fender man with a hot rodded Fender PJ Jaguar with Epic Custom 10K 1/4" polepiece PJ pickups, ebony fretboard, brass nut, brass Guyger saddles, 100 % rewired, CTS 8% 250K Linear pots, Fender cloth wire with Greasebucket tone control set-up, polypropylene caps 5% & a 1% 4K7 resister, new scratchplate as mounted D & G half of P pickup on the neck side..keeps that P bass growl but with a little deeper bass tone on the D & G strings, more balanced across the strings, my fave bass ,the now....PJ's are great as versatile 1 bass does all types/genres of music....nicely demo'd
The Fender has more character than the Sadowsky. This second one is maybe more precise. The location of the bridge pickup get a noticeable difference. I wonder if the active pickups configured in passive mode, sounds as best as a really passive ones. Thank you for this really great comparison !
Sadowsky very even and polite, a little characterless compared to the Fender for me; with the active it's maybe more versatile; thanks for the comparison, really well done: you looked like you were enjoying the Fender more yourself
Great video, I recently got two play metrolines and I was really impressed by the sound, playability and craftmanship. They are definitely crafter better and with more detail. However, a fender sounds like Fender. If that is the sound you want, I would still go for a fender. It's more rough around the edges, les polished in every aspect, but it's still THE sound.
This is a really tough one... I can't decide which one I prefer. I love the rough edges of the Fender tone, awesome for rock and motown, but the Sadowsky sounds so clean and even, a lot more modern and also deeper. I'd want them both, or a different one that sits right in the middle. With the tone all the way down, I found the Sadowsky a bit too dark and the Fender still a bit too bright. But with flats or older strings, it would be just right I guess. Great playing and song choice, you really highlighted all the differences! I'm still blown away by how different two so similar instruments can sound.
What a great comparison! I was looking for exactly this -- a comparison of a P/J with the J in the 60s position and a P/J with the J in the 70s position, without preamp coloration. This is incredibly thorough. It sounds like the Sadowsky P pickup is a little smoother with less high end. I prefer the Fender when it's just the neck pickup, but I prefer the Sadowsky for both the bridge and the two pickups together.
Both great. For me the Fender edges it on most of these, but you could make either work. Tho obviously the Sadowsky’s active mode takes it somewhere else completely. Biggest takeaway is how versatile these P/J’s are and how well they sit in the track, unlike my previous Jazz-type (won’t mention the manufacturer, but not cheap), which was pretty, beautifully-made, but was always a little bit of a fight to make work, character-wise. I bought the Fender Performer in the end, your video confirms I made a decent choice. Great video, thanks.
I like both. I’m a Fender guy, mostly playing a 73 p-bass, but I think I prefer the Sadowsky. The Fender is nice-sits a bit deeper in the mix-while the Sadowsky has a bit more in the upper mids and so cuts through a bit more. I guess which you prefer depends on where you want to be in the mix. Both are great. Nice playing! And great variety of sounds!
Boogie Wonderland , How Many More Times, London Calling, I Want You Back, Forget Me Nots, It Ain't Over 'til it's Over, Sweet Child Of Mine and the rest are mine improvisations. I have chosen songs in which the bass sound is similar to the one I am presenting.
Sadowsky for first and second position ,tone knob off or on, it has a sweet dark low end while this iteration of the P bass is flabby. However Fender wins for slap bass and it punches thru the rock , the flopping actually sits well in the track, funny that , but it happens frequently that the “best” bass tone isn’t the right “best” for a track
Absolutely nothing wrong with the Fender, but I much prefer the sound of the Sadowsky. For nearly 3000 Euros, I won't be buying one anytime soon. The Fender is 1200 Euros less! Excellent playing bye the way! 👌
Fender is heavier. ''Easier to play'' is subjective, depending on what kind of neck suits you better. I prefer the wider Fender neck, but the Sadowsky neck is faster to play.
I do not like PJs, so in that sense, I would choose the more expensive one and sell it 🙂. On the other hand, if I had to play one of those two, it would be the Fender.
Watching this video reminds of why I never owned a Fender. The harshness, untamed sound, I find very untasteful. If I want a bright sound I just use a Stingray! Sadowsky for the win!
Was sagt der Test aus? Ein Sadowsky metro line wird aktiv gespielt. Kein Bassist würde sich einen Sadowsky Bass wegen des passiven Tones kaufen. Die kurze Sequenz am Schluss ist sinnlos.
I was wondering how the BBP would compare, I can imagine that it would sit right between the two. Very nice instruments! (I started playing bass with a BB 25 years ago, but an entry level model, still a great bass for the price)
These comparison videos are a joy to watch, watched all of them! Please keep them coming 🙏
Thanks...I'll try 🙂
The Sadowsky has those mellower warmer and darker tones whereas the Fender has that familiar punchier tone. Sadowsky for me.
Fender wins. Thanks for the video.
Thank You for watching 👍
Thanks for the video!
Both basses are amazing! But Fender once again did it better, at least for me (:
Great playing!
Thank You 👍
This is what a comparison video should be!

Metroline is $1100, not much different from the Fender. They are both excellent instruments, not even considering the price point.

I really expected more from the Sadowsky... I would have to go with the Fender based on this demo.
I love the sound of Sadowsky instruments
Fender 🎉 ❤

Thank You. You are probably right about the character. And me...I've always been a Fender player 🙂
@@ObraBassIt's the fender mystique, that sadowsky may have higher overall quality but it will never have the mojo of an american music legend
Would love to see a comparison against a Yamaha BB. 734A or 34P
Really helpful comparisom Sadowsky overall sweeter. Fender slightly more aggressive.

Both is great. The Fender has a more vintage sound with a tin sonic taste, while the Sadowsky has a more modern sound. CMIIW

Fender sounds better
It's a close race, - but the Fender wins.
They sound pretty much the same......Which one should you get?The one that suits your fancy.Simple as that, play and have fun.................

Yes
Fender wins, for more controlled highs can use Daddario Nu XL.
Actually prefer the Fender.
Fender will always be Fender ..
Sadowsky. 😉
Fender wins
They should cost the same amount, because they sound exactly alike..
Fender performer P beats almost every bass on my opinion, can get any tone from it.
Watching this video reminds of why I never owned a Fender. The harshness, untamed sound, I find very untasteful. If I want a bright sound I just use a Stingray!
Sadowsky for the win!
single P pickup...Fender wins
Both pickups...Sadow wins
I 'll take the Sadowsky everyday over the over rated Fender gear. Sadowsky build quality leaves Fender in the dust.
I agree, but the price differential is pretty huge. Not everyone can afford a Sadowsky, unless we're talking about a Metro Express.
Fender all day every day. More bottom and punch.
Fender
I'll take my old 1980s Yamaha BBX and BB1600 over both of these.
Sadowsky is far clearer.
Was sagt der Test aus? Ein Sadowsky metro line wird aktiv gespielt. Kein Bassist würde sich einen Sadowsky Bass wegen des passiven Tones kaufen. Die kurze Sequenz am Schluss ist sinnlos.
By comparison the Sadowsky sounds like a cheap Chinese knockoff of the P bass.
The Fender American Ultra Precision Bass, is the Winner
фендер ни о чём... полный ноль..
Sadowsky = Fender pretender.
YAMAHA BB Basses will kill both!
Maybe 🙂. I would love to try one of those sometimes, or to compare it to some other PJ bass.
I was wondering how the BBP would compare, I can imagine that it would sit right between the two. Very nice instruments! (I started playing bass with a BB 25 years ago, but an entry level model, still a great bass for the price)
Sadowsky smokes Yamaha. It’s not close.
Fender wins
