I don't know why but cleaning up and setting up a bass is so fun and rewarding.
This is a really solid guide for most basses, well done
Please please please do a video on proper maintenance/cleaning for these amazing satin necks!
Sadowsky blue label Flat wound 45 to 105 bass strings are the best strings I've ever used. A joy to play.
That's a good informative video.... but.... before any of the steps shown, it's also a good idea to check the tightness of the neck to body screws to ensure they haven't worked loose...because sometimes, they do..
Well thats a really good and helpfull video. I'm gonna use it next weekend. Thank you!
i like the adjustable nut. was horsing around with my gibson lpb-2.
Unfortunately you're not talking about the A or D string when it comes to setting the height wirh the pickups. What should the height be?
You mentioned the B, E and the G. you're skipping the other two regarding the height over the pick ups.
Hi there! It is important to understand that string action and pickup height need to be treated individually. The pickup-string distance values for the A and D strings are left out on purpose because the string action for all strings follows the radius of the fretboard in a slight arch anyway. So, when adjusting the pickups to the correct height for the E and G strings, the A and D strings will automatically sit at the correct height. Since most pickups are flat, they only allow for adjustment at the top and bottom strings. The only exception is a P-pickup, which allows for raising the pickups beneath the A and D strings, so they can be adjusted in a slight "roof" shape, but this will only be necessary if you feel your specific bass with a P-pickup is quieter on the A and D strings compared to the others. We hope this was helpful.
Thanks for sharing 🙏
It looks like you are using the Dunlop 65 lemon oil to clean the neck. That bottle says ‘not recommended on maple necks’. I have a 2010 Metro w/maple neck, what is the best way to clean it?
Cheers!
Hi Brett! The fingerboard of the bass used in the tutorial is made of morado. As said in the video, for laquered maple fretboards we recommend any light, non-oily, non-abrasive guitar polish or fingerboard cleaner. Sadly we can't make any brand specific recommendations, though. Hope this was heplful.
Why only three string heights @ 8:00 min when four are shown? Also they show G,E,B where mine has E,A,D,G. I am just starting out so sorry if this is too much of a newbie question.
Awesome video and great information. 👍🏼
Glad it helped!
Awesome, thank you
Wow. An adjustable nut !!
So for the saddle setup you are measuring the pickup height?
7:50
I am a little confused on this still in the video.
Yes, that image threw me off too. It really should belong at 9:07 where they talk about measuring pickup height.
Yes, for string action it is correct to measure the distance between the bottom of the string and top of the 12th fret as described in the video. The values shown at 7:50 are indeed for the distance between string and 12th fret and not for string and pickup.
3:47 Truss rods affects action at the middle part though. It can be used to adjust action at a limited capacity, too much bow and middle frets would have high action. Even your illustration shows it 4:01. You also mention it at 5:12.
Yes, as mentioned in the video the trussrod does indeed affect the intonation and action, but is not intended as a tool for action adjustment but only to counter for a back or front bow of the neck itself caused by either string tension (which can vary when e.g. switching to a different set of strings) or humidity and changes in temperature and climate over time. The shown graphic is marked as an *exaggerated schematic and only serves the purpose of illustrating the function but in reality the bow will/should never be as severe. Intonation and action should only be adjusted at the bridge and the nut.
We hope this was helpful.
Excellence !
Nice video!!! Thanks!!!
What is the background music? Nice!!
The band is Soften The Glare and the track is Two Dozen.
two business cares whats that equal for a feeler gauge some insight im tryng to set up a bass to start learning to slap radius is a 9.5 any tips?
Really nice video.
I watched a bass guitar setup video recently and I would swear the dude was on acid. He gave me so much anxiety. He said he was a professional and was sufficient with his time.
Eh...he isn't working on my basses.🤣
When was the nut adjustment added? It's is not present on any of my Sadowsky basses.
The Sadowsky Just-A-Nut III is a feature on all German made Sadowsky basses and is a direct result of the collaboration between Roger Sadowsky and Warwick who developed the original Just-A-Nut in the mid 80's.
My metro express has a bad clicking, can not get rid of it so in the closet it goes, freaking depressing,
Hi there! You can send us an email to info@sadowskybass.de and include a little video clip, in which you demonstrate your issue and we can try to figure it out. Hope this will be helpful.
♦Comme une autre basse... rien d'original !
