Its kinda beautiful that even tho this song is simple with the bass stuff.... The people just wanted you to hear a good song ❤.... Music really does unite.

I LOVE Millencolin. Never got to see them live, but this music defined my life until my early 20's. I was singing Duckpond just yesterday. This video was so much fun today.
I'm from their hometown of Örebro (Pennybridge in Swedish). The album cover features the city in the background including the famous water tower Svampen, the 12th century castle and some other signature buildings. I've listened to these guys since the 90s.

First record I bought with my own money at 14 years old, was Punk-O-Rama 5, same year it dropped. Second and third records I bought at the same time, and they were NOFX - Pump up the Valuum, and Millencolin - Pennybridge Pioneers…because song #1 was from Pump up the Valuum and song #3 was No Cigar…which blew my fuckin mind at the time! 🤟😄 That comp alone also got me into Rancid (Poison is still one if my favourite Rancid songs), Bouncing Souls, Bombshell Rocks, Pulley, Refused, Dwarves…like it kicked my ass! I knew I liked punk before that, with a few records my sister had, like Green Day, Offspring, AFI, Propagandhi, Blink-182…but that comp solidified it for me! So I can thank this song as one of the big ones to really hook me on punk back in the day. One of the first records I ever bought.
Yup! The early Punk-O-Rama comps were all pretty excellent, dropping off around maybe 6 or 7, depending on your tastes. They definitely shifted to indy, emo, post hardcore and even hiphop in later comps…so stopped being punk, which could be a bummer for some (I didn’t mind it). But what I always loved about them was, starting around comp 3, they stopped putting popular singles on and started picking more obscure songs (for the most part, but not always), from even more obscure bands. Like Osker…who the fucks heard of Osker except from their brief stints on those comps. 😅 They were so rad, I found so many bands from those comps that are still favourites to this day! Definitely top tier comps for the time period. 👌
Yes indeed, I had both albums! Treatment 5 is fun and good ol fashioned snotty punk rock, my favourite lyrical line of all time comes from that record: “Ah thanks for being a fuck! I hope you drowned in your own vo-mit!” 😂 And Idle Will Kill I still spin from time to time…something much sadder but somehow hopeful goin on in that record, and I frickin love it. 🫠 I gotta be in a mood for it, but I always tend to spin that whole record in one sitting when I am. But ya, that’s exactly why those comps were so great, lotta great bands on them, some that are pretty much lost to history now.
@MrSirhcsellor Agreed. Treatment 5 is great, but I hold IWK close to my heart. My favorite lines from "Animal" are "This is my mind on your recorder. This is my soul that you're hearing."
Well, being as you did Lagwagon and Millencolin, might as well round out the Tony Hawk 2 soundtrack and get in some Swingin Udders. Anything off the Five Lessons Learned album. Title track, The Stooge is a good one too.
Lotta love for the vocals in this video, and I must add that Nikola stated it was quite a challenging record to do vocals for because he purposely sang at a higher range than he was used to, especially compared to the previous ska punk records
I had the chance to interview No Fun At All some years ago at Groezrock festival. They told me that every swedish kid has to learn to play an instrument at school and play together. Lots of them formed their bands at school and in the 80's and 90's they were hardly influenced by Californian punk rock bands, so that's the main reason why there are so many great punk rock bands in Sweden.

I think my favorite thing about Millencolin is his choice of vowel sounds. They are very atypical and when you add the dissonant harmonies, it just takes it to another place that so few other bands go. I assume that it has something to do with having a “accent“ being from Sweden.
Love these guys, seeing them again in February with Pennywise. Nicola is a great bass player, not only is he talented but he’s clever in what he chooses to use and wear.
Millencolin are one of my all time favourite bands, across all genres, not just skate punk… soundtrack to my teenage years and early 20s Lots of people would say this is their best album, (produced by Brett from Bad Religion!), my favourite of theirs is Life on a Plate The thing I like most about these guys is how (especially on their early albums) the songs jump all over the place, and how fun they are too… love em
I've always appreciated how Millencolin uses literal translations of Swedish phrases and words, like "You're the kid all day" ("Du är grabben hela dan") and Pennybridge ("Örebro").
Would love to see you do DYNAZTY - The White. Another Swedish band. Pay attention to the bass in verses and there is also a bass solo before the guitars come in. It's a great song, these guys are very talented and have a new album out in February. Love your reactions and hope to see this one soon! 😁
Damn. The nostalgia. Im from their hometown and my older brother is friends with some of the members. I was like 14 when this dropped and i remember hanging out with them one summer. Going swimming and hiking and just hanging out in the skatepark drinking beer. We were so proud of them. Still are! Great group of guys, really down to earth
I've been meaning to suggest Millencolin because I listened to them so much in my 20s, but then I thought they'd be too straightforward for your channel 😂 great that you did them anyway (I would have picked a different song but voting is voting) The International Noise Conspiracy are another Swedish band worth checking out. "Let's Make History" is my pick
Fun sidefact: Nicola, the singer, is also running Duckpond Brewing in Gothenburg. A small brewery who specializes in making high end sour beer. It's absolutely delicious!

I love your channel though. You've inspired me to dust off my Warwick [with the Hi-C :) ]. Keep up the good work man. Much appreciated
Their whole discography is brilliant with meaningful lyrics. Nikola is definitely the king of sing and his bass playing is great too, he is also a great guitar player.
Oh heck yeah some Millencolin. I like a lot of their songs a lot more but still glad you're covering them. Life on a Plate and Home Sweet Home man I love those albums.

The thing I like most about these guys is how (especially on their early albums) the songs jump all over the place, and how fun they are too… love em
Such a great song. Love millencolin
I've always appreciated how Millencolin uses literal translations of Swedish phrases and words, like "You're the kid all day" ("Du är grabben hela dan") and Pennybridge ("Örebro").
I got to see them touring for this album. Fricking amazing live!!
Would love to see you do DYNAZTY - The White. Another Swedish band. Pay attention to the bass in verses and there is also a bass solo before the guitars come in. It's a great song, these guys are very talented and have a new album out in February. Love your reactions and hope to see this one soon! 😁
As an Aussie growing up with this band in my teens, seeing the live and meeting the band, I can't believe this came on my feed!
My favorite band! Thanks🎉
Slowly making your way through the THPS soundtrack..... respect.👏
Brett Gurewitz on the production for this album
And guitar solo on highway donkey
Saw them live last year on tour with Satanic Surfers. One of the coolest shows of my life.
I don't play bass, but love all these videos. Same music appreciation reaction when I first listened to most of these songs.
You need to explore their catalog. They are absolutely amazing
They wrote some of the catchiest songs of the era in any genre.
I listen to Da Strike quite a bit to this day. Every genre they have played, they excelled in. Melodic hardcore, punk, pop punk, ska punk...
Never got into or cared for Millencolin for some reason, but this is the one song by theirs I know well. Great vid as always.
This whole album is a classic if you have the time to check the rest out.
Band: Satanic Surfers Album: 666 Motor Inn Bassist: Tomek Sokolowski
One of my favorite songs by one of my favorites bands! Definitely top notch lyrics, hope you get the chance to really look at them
Millencolin’s songs sound very serious, but their lyrics are usually very not-serious. I love this band.
I've been meaning to suggest Millencolin because I listened to them so much in my 20s, but then I thought they'd be too straightforward for your channel 😂 great that you did them anyway (I would have picked a different song but voting is voting)
The International Noise Conspiracy are another Swedish band worth checking out. "Let's Make History" is my pick
Fun sidefact: Nicola, the singer, is also running Duckpond Brewing in Gothenburg. A small brewery who specializes in making high end sour beer. It's absolutely delicious!
Got to see them perform this entire album baxk to back in an anniversary tour a coyple years ago, an amazing experience for sure. Love their sound!
Pennybridge Pioneers is one of my favorite albums of all time. Deserves a full listen.
First time hearing these guys. I would have worn this cassette out in high school had I known about them. They sound great!! Great video, Mark!
Man, some Saves the Day would be awesome to hear you break down. I just saw them on MON (12/9/24) at H.O.B. Anaheim. "Freakish" and "My Sweet Fracture" have some really involved bass-lines. I love your channel though. You've inspired me to dust off my Warwick [with the Hi-C :) ]. Keep up the good work man. Much appreciated
Freakish would be awesome.
Eben was killer in saves the day and his bass really made the whole song.
I was at the 10 years pennybridge pioneers tour, where they flawlessly played the whole album and then smacking some classics
Their whole discography is brilliant with meaningful lyrics.
Nikola is definitely the king of sing and his bass playing is great too, he is also a great guitar player.
This album for me in highschool brought out so much emotion
Such a killer under rated band
So many memories skating to this🛹
Thanks for picking up a pick!
This brought tears of joy to my eyes forgot how great this was. Thank you
Oh heck yeah some Millencolin. I like a lot of their songs a lot more but still glad you're covering them. Life on a Plate and Home Sweet Home man I love those albums.
