      I 100% feel that on paper, Tesla wins on most fronts. I'm super big on tech and 90% of my house is wired connected on automation, sentry cameras, patrol robots, robot vacuum/moppers on all floors, a layer 3 switch with 2 Gbps connection, all appliances are IoT, you get it.
      Loved the Tesla, test drove it twice. Once before I test drove the i4. And once after the i4. The 2nd test drive after the i4 was what sealed its fate.
      I bought i4 in the end, haha. After the initial test drive and the fan boy moments passed, the glaring issues with the Tesla became more apparent after sitting in the i4. Here in Singapore, the Tesla Model 3 Performance is about USD 200,000 after government taxes. The i4 is USD 245,000 after taxes. I can tell you that sitting in the model 3 Performance, it does not feel like a 200K car. Maybe a 120k car. The i4 feels like you've gotten your money's worth.
      The amount of customization, the road handling, the comfort, the color choices, that I can choose real leather without being made to feel bad about the it, the visceral control knobs so I don't need to keep tapping my grubby fingers on that fingerprint magnet to change modes or my a/c.
      I would recommend anyone to get a Tesla, just not me. I want to drive a car's car, not a grounded hover craft with wheels.

      Tesla is number one in this space and I am perplexed as to why people don't like that. I can't stand Elon but I am an MP3 owner and happy to say that they got it right with this vehicle and the charging infrastructure etc... Every other car maker is 3 years behind at best. The idea that converting from a standard car to all electric will be easier and quicker than building an electric vehicle and trying to become a real automobile supplier turned out not to be true. Getting the electrification thing down and all of the infrastructure to support it was much more difficult than building a car company. Part of the reason for this is that there are plenty of Engineers, Designers and Manufacturing experts (of cars) already... The "know how" on electric vehicles was a much steeper hill...as all of the car makers have learned and are learning. The minute people want fewer features and more speed or lower cost, Tesla only needs to rotate a knob and they are already years ahead of everybody else. When was the last time anyone saw a Ford, VW or BMW charging station?

    I hate the barn-door styling of the BMW. It just screams, "I'm super inefficient and am going to use 50% more energy, just so I can be shaped like a barn door." And indeed, it does. 80 mpge for the BMW = .421 kWh/mile, which is more than all of the mid size electric suv's like IoniQ 5, ev6, model Y and ID.4. On the other hand, the model 3's 113 mpge is .298 kWh/mile, which is in line with the most efficient electric cars out there. Let's say your road tripping and do a 10%-80% DC fast charge that is 50kWh. In the Tesla, that will take you 168 miles. In the BMW that same charge will only go 119 miles. As of March 2022, in US, there are 1315 Tesla Supercharger locations vs as of February 2022, 7018 Public DC fast charging locations, with the number growing exponentially in the next few years. So there are over 5 times more DC fast charging locations than there are Tesla supercharging locations. So, that's not a selling feature anymore. Also, it's not cheaper if you get the TM3P with FSD and metallic paint. BMW gets the $7500 rebate plus any state rebate. Can't even compare the interior quality and fit and finish. No adaptive suspension, HUD, leather, AirPlay, etc on the Tesla.

      On the track the M3P outperforms any car in its price range. (Excluding specialized track cars).
      The premium feeling is subjective, I have a MB C43 and it should be more premium and also more expensive, but to me that is not what makes the whole car experience, I prefer the M3P. In my opinion the I4 50 is just too heavy and inefficient, not great range, will take a look at the next version, that is not a gas car converted to EV. BMW was one of my favorite gas cars, not yet there in EV format, perhaps in future.
      But if you like the I4 more, then u should buy it.
      I would test drive both before deciding, keep in mind for the same features that the M3P comes standard (21 inch wheels, glass roof, phone chargers, technology etc), you need to spend a lot more on the BMW.
      Tesla also has a great potential with FSD, if and when FSD is fully functional, any Tesla car that can run it will be more valuable, BMW does not have that option.

      @@RemoteSpeed007 BMW build both pure EV cars (and several more is to come) and EV versions of the 3, 5 and 7 series will come in additional to the current 4 series so that BMW buyers can choose what they like best. To me this is just a strength. I have driven both the M3P and the M50. The Tesla is great fun but the BMW blew me away.
      The I4M50 is not built for the track. Its a premium car built for the road. I do not believe that EV buyers of this segment choose their car due to top speed and lap times, I just dont.
      My wife got a 2021 330e and I got a 2020 340i. We love our cars. But the I4M50 felt like on another level. I would change in a heartbeat if it was not for the long delivery time.
      Here in Norway Tesla 3 is one of the most common cars on the road due to our tax system. Several Colleagues of mine drives it as a company car. The got some great features and very good charging network. But they have some quality issues and the premium feeling is not close to the BMW in my opinion. Maybe that is subjective.
      Range. They are pretty close I would say. I do not know why you find the BMW not efficient. All tests I read say something else. Even if Tesla might be slightly better in that matter.
      Even if the BMW is heavier (for its reasons) the Tesla model 3 performance is not faster. Yes it launch better (Teslas launch system is great) but after that the BMW is faster. From 100-225 km/h the BMW is noticeable faster.
      BMW has set the top speed to 225 km/h due to capacity and safety reasons. A lot of people need more than that you say. Ok….maybe on the german autobhan but they probably buy a completely different car. My guess is that close to none choose the M3P due to the top speed.

  • @jjuhring1
    @jjuhring1 ปีที่แล้ว

    Roman, I know this video is 4 months old now, but there are several issues with both your review and analysis. 1) The statement "In the model 3 I only get Sport Mode." has to be the understatement of the century. There is a whole TRACK MODE in the Model 3P where where you can adjust nearly everything on the power delivery... including how much traction control to use at launch. How about trying to use that mode for once on one of these reviews? 2) These are the highest performance versions of the cars. The ONLY reason to pay the $10k+ premium for these models is the PERFORMANCE. You say "My money is on the BMW." but that's only until every soccer mom with an M3P asks you in the parking lot to a drag race... and you have to back down! You think looking like other model 3's is annoying. Wait until you hear that 10 times.🤣
    Additionally, and you haven't done the track test yet, but on the same tires (and properly using Track Mode) the M3P will handily beat the BMW around a test track. You didn't touch on it much, but the BMW is a porker. Well over 2 tons in weight. In fact, I think it's pushing 5,000lbs!!! That's heavier than a Model S Plaid! Ouch!
    So if you really want to spend more money on a performance BMW that will lose to an M3P in every meaningful performance category... and is 30%+ less efficient on the road, go for it. Less Model 3 P's for me to look like!

      I never really knew the i4 M50 was 1000 lbs heavier than the model 3 performance, 5000 lbs! but now that I know it is I'm quite far from impressed, its quite embarrasing imo. Why such a large weight discrepancy? A 200-300 lb weight difference would make sense as it is on an unoptimized frame. Initially I thought the BMW could have a far larger pack, but the battery sizes are around the same (i4 is larger by 82 kwH (M3P) to 83.9 (i4)). The BMW is about 4 inches longer but other dimensions are relatively the same though the 3 has a roomier interior classified as a midsize sedan compared to the BMW's compact designation. Where did the extra 1000 lbs go?? And that slightly larger battery pack still doesn't give it more range than the model 3, it actually has less range too!

    • @thedumbconspirator4956
      @thedumbconspirator4956 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      to put this into perspective the model s plaid is a hair under 4800 lbs making it 200 lbs lighter than the i4 and the S plaid has an almost 17 kWh bigger battery than the i4 (83.9 to 99 kWh)! The plaid is also physically larger in exterior and interior sense (nearly two classifications higher as a large sedan) and to top it off has nearly twice the power and an extra motor...and despite that is still 200 lbs lighter! Thats atrocious packaging, either that or they have a frame made of lead or have some deadweight installed on the car, makes no sense! Keep in mind that the model 3 is almost 5 years without any major upgrades other than software tune-ups still beating this hot new BMW and is 1000 lbs lighter despite having largely the same specs. if they revamp the model 3 and make it lighter and add sleeved rotors giving it great top end...its game over. Because the S plaid is actually lighter than the raven counterpart, wouldn't be surprised if a revamped 3 is lighter!

Again, this is almost 5 years old now, so it is aging but its still competitive. What I don't understand is why is the i4 so heavy? whats making it 1000 lbs heavier than a 5 year old electric car?? Hell as I said, the model S plaid is even lighter than the i4 despite being larger, having a bigger pack and twice the hp thanks to an extra motor...and is still 200 lbs lighter than a compact car
