This is the most beautiful song I've ever heard. My favourite song for many years now. I'm having this played at my funeral when I pass because it means so much to me. Got me through a lot of hard times. So many meaningful lyrics I just love it

"The truth I have told was silence sometimes,
But whose soul does not hide any crimes?"
One of my all time favorite lyrics from any artist. It is a shame Mike doesn't still do The Streets, but I guess part of being a great artist is to know the right time to give it up.

Na man sorry if you had said "original pirate material" ? Yeah? Then I woulda liked your comment with all the others as a nod but the reality is that everything that came after his 1st album was fucking shit and the guy above me preaching God blesses? He's just doing it for some brownie points from his good lord not because he actually, genuinely gives a toss.
      That's just reality.
And that's what you'll find on the streets 1st album.

I remember when I first heard the streets. It was the track original pirate material. At first listen I didn't know if i should like it or hate it but there was something about that track that was so different from anything else I heard that I ended up buying the whole album. I couldn't stop playing it for months. When a grand don't come for free came out I didn't like it until I went through a really bad breakup. I quickly went into a depression. Then for whatever reason I started listening to a grand don't come for free and listening to the lyrics, it was like Mike was singing about everything I was going through. It really helped me get out of my funk and love life again. Thank you Mike! #thestreets #mikeskinner

Somehow each album seemed to line up with a time in my life when I needed to hear what was being said.
I often go weeks or months without listening or thinking about these albums now, but I always end up coming back for a listen now and then.
One of, if not the biggest musical influence on my life growing up.

My mom is on life support. Today on the way to the hospital I put this CD on and never really heard this track to often since I'd never get to track 11 for whatever reason. Today i payed attention to the lyrics then looked them up online since the accent sometimes throws me off. I thought of my mom's state and how this song is pretty much as if she's singing to me. If you only knew how bad i balled in the car. But I feel like she's talking to me. This song has become my medicine. Thank you

I was on a trip with my class on Rügen, a German island, and we walked a lot in the gorgeus landscape. Everyone hated walking that much but it reminded me of this song and I listened to it all the time when we were walking. It was great to do almost the same like Mike Skinner in the video, and I'd always do it again...
it's just because it has something philosophical, listenin to this song, the lyrics and when you watch the endless landscape in which you're walking, you feel free and unworried

The moment he takes his shoes off in this video is pivotal to the song's meaning. I think that's when he realised in the video that he was still captivated, restricted in a place that sufficated 50,000 sweat glands.

No other words to describe this but brilliant.College/life has been stressing me out a ton lately,so I took a walk last night,my college is a large campus but has back roads/smaller roads branching off into rather farmland-ish areas.I listened to all sorts of music to clear my mind, and this song came on as I came upon a large field that was completely silent and peaceful. It made me realize how beautiful life is, and once this song ended I turned around and walked the few miles back in silence

The massacre took place on the 10th of June 1944, not at the end of the war (many of the culprits died later in the Normandy and the battles until the Nazis surrendered) and was officially (according to the SS) retaliation for the partisan activity in the area (though the acting officer exceeded his orders by miles - capturing 20 hostages). And the killed 642 men, women and children.

My number 1 song of last year, beautiful, seeing The Streets on the 25th, cannot wait.

Just gotta say... following the story in all the streets tracks.. its great to see these kinda realisations/etc come out eventually.. !
reminds me of my own life's path..
I guess I'm still stuck somewhere at 'pranging out'.. but sometimes I get a few weeks out like this.
    Thanks for all the music/stories/etc..

I’ve just lost someone ridiculously close to me and won’t ever get them back. This has softened the blow so much .

its subjective, you have to relate to what he's saying.. The walls were never there, my favorite tree breaking, my windowed life keeps spinning, every morning a new opportunity. this to me is the anthem to starting over wiser, accepting the past while moving on, and to cast away the walls we build for ourselves.

I have to respond to many of you that have been beyond thoughtful to ask about my mother. Unfortunately, 2 days later after I wrote this comment, she passed away. August 3rd to be exact.
It was surreal to receive all these notifications in my inbox from strangers asking on my mom, and her wellbeing. It was very moving. Again, thank you all for your sincere thoughts. :)
