Yeah I have to add a few things but it’s all there! I had a lot of leftover food from past trips and family/friends have been buying me meals and snacks lately so I put it all in my bag to add weight for hikes 😅
@@gabicerrahikes that’s smart! I keep pushing off buying stuff because I’m going to Hawaiian rolls for my lunches and those go bad to quickly. Hoping I’ll find everything I need a couple days before I go. But go you!
Enjoyed the video, good luck! I have one humble request for you and really everybody. To take antibiotics as preventative measures is to teach the bacteria resistance. We have a responsibility for others. Please concentrate on excellent prevention methods rather than antibiotics. If you do get bit, know what the early symptoms are and seek immediate treatment. I’m trying not to be annoying, sorry if it comes across that way.
Thank you for posting this now. I just sat down for a break and needed to escape my problems. Did the Gerber knife come from Ocean State Job Lot? They were on sale a couple of weeks ago. I've gotten some good deals on camping equipment from them. Good choice on the trekking poles. I've seen many poles break on the AT. I gave out 2 poles when I was doing trail magic. This was your best video so far. You seem to be a lot more comfortable. Add a ziplock to put your Sawyer in at night when you bring it to bed. The sewing kits from hotels work well. Is there any chance your boy friend can drive you to Springer? I've heard a lot of airline horror stories recently. Cancelled flights and lost luggage. Losing a pack before a thru hike would be a tragedy. Good Luck, Rick
The gerber knife actually came from Amazon, but I got it on sale! I’ll have to check out ocean state job lot I had no idea they had camping equipment! And thanks! I feel like it was easier to record, took me a bit to get comfortable speaking to a camera haha Sadly driving isn’t an option for me, but I am not checking my pack I’m carrying it on the plane so I have it in my possession the entire time. I’m going to check my poles, tent stakes, knife and food (things I don’t mind too much if they lose) and that way my pack can pack down smaller and I can carry it on with my expensive gear :)
@@gabicerrahikes With practise you get better at everything and more comfortable. Figure out how you're going to organize your videos, ahead of time. This will save you time on trail and your future self will find things easier when you look back.Good plan using carry on. OSJL had micro spikes and trekking poles on sale a couple of weeks ago. In their online area you can order things that they ship to the store. I've been looking at the camp chairs that are 2 for $50 but you get a $40 gift card to spend later. They call them "Crazy Deals". Look in the sporting goods area, there is no telling what will be there. Also check out the "Eat For Free" area(you pay but get an equal gift card) but watch the expiration dates. They do have interesting imported foods that might be good on trail. You do have to get one of their membership cards. I figure that your boy friend will ship you things as needed. We outfitted our Troop 18 years ago with sleeping bags and tents that were on a great sale at OSJL. Later, I bought 20 poles at $3 each to use with my Boy Scout Troop but had 10 left over so, I took 4 with me last August. Two guys had bent poles so it worked out good. Good Luck, Rick
I use this on my motorcycle in rain. Save a couple plastic bread bags (after you eat the bread) as rain coats for your socks + a couple rubber bands when walking in cold rain. Just slip over your feet like socks then put on your shoes.
I have see this before somewhere and thought it was a great idea. I even bought some new bread bags from Amazon, to save getting crumbs between my toes. It will save 200+ grams and I won’t need shoes swinging from my pack.
Okay okay….this is my first video of yours that I have watched and this is scary!! My name is also Gabii and I am hiking the AT this year too leaving the last week of February. We have the same pack, tent, trekking poles headlamp, sleeping bag liner, and hair 😂 I was honestly looking at the hammoc gear quilts too but decided to bite the bullet and go with an EE quilt instead 😂 I really hope we cross paths out there! My husband and I are starting pretty slow, so depending on your exact start date, we might see you!💙
Omg hi! That’s so funny. Not many people spell Gabi this way. And that’s crazy we have similar gear. If you have instagram I’ll message you and share my start date. If not, I’ll say that I’ll probably see you out there if I can catch up!
@@gabicerrahikes I don't have instagram, so I hope to see you out there! We just started a channel this week and posted our intro. It is called Hikinology if you'd like to follow
Great video. I'm planning for 2024. I noticed you are using a dirty bag for water. I have found that they can puncture and also pop. I like to just have two 1.5 liter smart water bottles. One is always dirty, one is always clean. But in my experience these are much more reliable. Good luck!
Well done and very well prepared… really incredibl that you can get all of that stuff in a backpack…. Really is amazing. Did I understand you correctly that you have 2 tents and really good idea with adding the pad to your equipment like you talked about at the end of the video. Can’t wait to follow your journey. 👍
I recommend you take longer cords for your phone and Anker power bank. Most recepticals are 18” high in hostels and most places. Other than that you have done a great job of dialing down your gear. Can’t wait to support you on the trail. Let me know when, I’ll pay for one of your hostel stays.
Great presentation. You've really done your homework and are well-equipped for your hike. I haven't watched all of your pre-hike videos yet, so you may have already answered this question: what is your base weight? I look forward to following your journey!
I have that same head lamp and in case you do not already know it goes from full light to zero light when the battery runs out. No dimming to let you know it's getting low. So, you might want an extra little button LED light for emergency lighting. Or make sure the head lamp is kept charged up frequently. Good luck on your adventure and look forward to following along.
I would consider keeping your trowel and tp on the outside of your pack. You’re not going to want to dig for it when you gotta go! Also, keep the cork ball in an outside pocket. You’ll use it more if it’s accessible.
I wear glasses, so I may not know what I'm talking about, but do you need to worry about your contact lens supply freezing? Aren't they packaged in liquid? Also, why not put the bic in with your pot/stove? I'd also recommend the AirPods- the headphone cable is a PITA! I can't wait to follow a fellow western North Carolinian's hike. Waffle (GA-NJ '19, GA-ME '24!!!)
I actually never thought about the liquid they are packaged with so I just looked it up. Apparently the liquid will freeze down to a low temp, but apparently it doesn’t damage the contact when it thaws out. I guess I can sleep with the bag of extra contacts. And I don’t have the bic lighter in with my stove because it ignites with a button so I don’t really use the lighter!
@@gabicerrahikes I wasn’t sure about the pocket rocket. My stove doesn’t have an igniter. Still can’t wait to watch your hike! I’ll be doing trail magic as many times as I can this season and I look forward to meeting TH-camrs!
Hey Gabi! Looks like you’re all ready to go! I look forward to following you in March. Definitely interested in your thoughts on your big 3 on the trail. @@gabicerrahikes I found that when I switched to the darn tough socks I didn't need a liner anymore. As long as you don't get blisters that's what matters 😊
Gabi, dump the aquamira. You really don't need it. Also lose the headlamp strap. It actually ways as much as the headlamp itself. There are other UL straps that will cut the weight of the whole thing in half. There are other bigger things to suggest but it seems like you already made up your mind so no need to bother you. You will learn as you progress on trail. I guarantee that you will cut and replace a lot of stuff you have now :)
The aquamira is my backup water purification. I’m not comfortable dumping it. And the headlamp is fine I’m not worried about it, but thanks for the advice. I’m not ultralight but I’m sure I’ll dump some things on trail
love to see someone else who hikes in speedgoats ! they are awesome to hike in !!
Done 28 mile days in those things easily and my feet barely fetl it. They're like walking on clouds
You might want to toss in some leukotape to pop on any hot spots/blisters. Stuff is fantastic! Moleskin just doesn't hold as well
I will do that then!
I second this! It stays on and isn’t as thick.
Oh and make sure to get the stretchy kind. There are two different ones
I third this!
Gabi, I'll be starting April 1st! Hope to see you out there!
Love my HOKA Speedgoats. Never a blister!
Good gear update🌲👍
I like the Gerber knife. Smart looking first aid bag......good job! How 'bout a head lamp...some kind of flashlight? Good luck!
Check out Anker’s new charging block. Same size you have but fast charges your electronics. Could save you time in town. Thanks for Sharing!
May I recommend preperationH totables, they work great for relieving itching from mosquitoes, poison ivy and oak. Great item to use in a pinch.
Thnx for the shoutout! Hopefully will see ya somewhere down the trail. -Matador
I hope so too!
Really looking fwd to ur journey on the AT… how about adding a small umbrella.Good luck
