JBL probably wasn’t a good guy but that’s precisely what made him such a good heel. He knew how to blur the lines between kayfabe and reality. I appreciate his heel run more now that I’m an adult
You know 😂 this was gold. The hammerstein ballroom was about as hostile an environment could get for the WWE wrestlers and scared the likes of cena and orton that night. But it backfired when they threw JBL at them who actually wants to be booed and jeered and that's basically beating them at their own game.😂
One of my favourite ppv's. The hostile ecw crowd literally fueled with hate and anger over any Raw or Smackdown superstars. Here comes that heel JBL we usually want to hate, but at this night the one time we all agree on with what his saying to this crowd and I couldnt stop laughing at his response. "I see no women out here, and your chanting about a male organ! Now tell me whos the fruit booty?" That there was him represnting Smackdown owning ECW at their own show lol. It takes some guts coming out as cocky confident to a crowd like this and JBL is for this reason one of the best heels on the mic.
Because this era you had to pay your dues John Cena versus JBL judgement day both of those men Paid their dues he put cena over that night, but cena almost lost his eye 😢
JBL is truly a savage in this lol, owning ECW and Tazz in the process, coming out so cocky to a hostile ECW crowd, took balls of steel to say what he said in front of all of them " I see no women out here, and you are chanting about a male organ, now tell me whose the fruit booty" LOL JBL telling the truth while roasting everyone here even though Tazz fought back
Yes he's getting plenty of credit, particularly after he joined Smackdown on commentary. He doesn't get enough credit for being a good worker, but as far as his mic skills are concerned? People knows how great he was.
One thing about all of the older wrestlers, they were ALL witty, even the mid and lower card talents…they knew how to engage the crowds and control them.

It's a shame that the JBL character was only around for about two years before retiring to commentary. Imagine if he made that character switch earlier in his career
It wouldn't have worked, mainly because he wouldn't have been given the opportunity to be WWE champion (the roster was loaded with bigger stars from 2000 to 2003). Him becoming JBL in 2004 and feuding with Eddie was perfect timing and perfect scenario for him to become the top heel, he wouldn't have had that opportunity earlier.
