  • This 1962 film first features the 1899 vintage 1m gauge Schatzalp-Bahn funicular railway, ascending from Davos-Platz to Schatzalp over it's 712m length, elevating 304m. Now modernised, it's operated by Berghotel Schatzalp AG serving the hotel & former tuberculosis sanitorium that treated Robert Louis Stevenson for TB, amongst others.
Next via the long-gone Schatzalp-Strela cable car cooperative Gondelbahn on up to Strela' Pass winter pistes on Davos' first ski lift route, captured on the earliest known surviving film here a few years after it opened, replacing a pioneering alpine chairlift. Since 1995 this 755m route became a 2-person chairlift again, known as Sesselbahn Schatzalp-Strelaberg and it's upper section is somewhat parallel to the 1300m Schlepplift Strelaberg-Strelapass drag lift which was built later in 1966. The film also shows a lower section of the Schlepplift Strelaberg-Strelagrat ski drag lift, which climbs to 2495m altitude.
Another ascent is featured from Davos, changing at Ischalp, to Jakobshorn on the opposite Piz Vadret slope via the BBBJ Bergbahn Brämabüel Jakobshorn cable car, up to 2490m altitude leading to more beautiful alpine views, a restaurant, footpaths, pistes and the shortest public cablecar in Switzerland known as Güggel-Bahn.
Paul Russenberger voices narration from 1999 to accompany this original 1962 cine film.
