    When you build your own plane, i would assume that the FAA inspects it as the build progresses. Look forward seeing her first flight! I have no doubt that it will feel great since you put in all the labor and time. You have unlimited patience!

      Nope, just one airworthiness inspection before you go fly! Crazy right? Thanks for the nice comment

    Awesome videos! Hello from a local Bendite! Watch out for those Rivnuts. They seem convenient and easy but if those things spin down the road they are almost impossible to get out without a lot of collateral damage (learned this lesson the hard way). If you have the option for nut plates, ALWAYS opt for them. Well worth the extra effort. If you absolutely have no choice but to use the rivnuts, put a little bead of loctite 273 (red) on them. It gives you the best chance of not having one spin on you down the road!

      Hi Chris! Nice to meet ya. Weird few weeks for us Bendites, eh? The Harros then the Safeway shootings. Thanks for the info on the red loctite, I’ll have to pick some up. Sounds like my skepticism of those rivnuts is justified…

    Tip: You shouldn’t have to use vice grips plus wrench to tighten the fittings on the header. The inside of the inner fitting should have a hex shape. This lets you put an Allen key in the hole from the outside to hold the inner piece while you use an open end wrench to tighten the outside nut.

    • @CLEAREDDIRECT
      @CLEAREDDIRECT  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It doesn’t though. Thanks!

    • @martinjmerritt
      @martinjmerritt 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bummer Steve, Rans must have changed suppliers for those fittings. My 2019 delivered S20 kit had similar looking fittings and the through-tank ones all had hex bores.

    • @CLEAREDDIRECT
      @CLEAREDDIRECT  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Right? I was expecting them to be hexed and was surprised when they weren’t. Gentle pressure on the vice grips worked fine. There are flat spots on the threads for that purpose.

    Steve, I just finished this video you made.. Your doing a great job on getting to a flying airplane!! This is going to be such a stellar build!! Thank you for taking the time to video all that you do.. I really enjoy watching your build videos.. I also loved seeing around the top of the sister’s mountains.. Could you see the Cedar Creek fire over by Waldo lake from where you were at??

      Hi Glen! Thanks for the nice comment and encouragement as always. I assume the fire you mentioned is near Eugene? The only fire we could see was the Oak Ridge fire. I’m grateful for the firefighters (and weather) that have kept the fires at bay this year for us. 🙏🏼

      @@CLEAREDDIRECT Hey Steve, the fire is the one just out of Oakridge that I was talking about. Hope your having a stellar day!! Catch you on your next video!!

    Timing of this video is spot on for me. I was just looking into buying Dow 730. Wow! Liquid gold indeed. Looking at the application, I’m was thinking Pro-Seal should work. Not that it Is any cheaper, but I need it for the fuel tank already. I couldn’t find in the manual where it calls for Dow 730 except in the materials list where it says or “PRC” (fuel sender instructions also, as you mention). PRC? What is that? PRC is mentioned at the same time as Pro-Seal by PPG, so again, I’m thinking Pro-Seal should work. Aviation #3 for threads (carefully) and Pro-seal for other fuel where plastic involved (Pro-Seal not officially sanctioned for plastic either but it works)? Thoughts? My kit doesn’t even arrive for another week and I’m already obsessing over fuel leaks! This is going to be a long few years.🤦🏻‍♂️

    • @CLEAREDDIRECT
      @CLEAREDDIRECT  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Make sure you check shelf life and don’t buy too early. PRC’s life is well under a year. The RANS Parts Manual calls out DOW 730 specifically for this application (header tank low fuel sensor). I am definitely not qualified to determine if PRC could substitute. My hunch is that DOW 730 is easier to remove if you need to whereas PRC is much more permanent. Working with DOW 730 is much easier.
      My understanding is that “PRC” and “Pro Seal” are synonyms. Someone feel free to jump in here and correct me!

      @@CLEAREDDIRECT Sounds like I just need to follow the instructions! Liquid gold it is! 👍 I’ll hold off on buying the Pro-Seal. Thx for the tip.

    @7:14 are you putting strain releifs on the banding for the fuel tan @7:14 ? band clamps do not like sharp corners... it's a fatigue spot , maybe put a little bit of wooden down with a slit on it to round off the corner ?
