    Good stuff CA i feel like I'm one of the few people I see in the lagoon from a kayak that uses bait casters but for top water and corkys you can't beat it

    Good Stuff!
    one thing i’d like to add is for me at least in the winter I drop down from a 7”2 to a 6”9 Rod because it helps shorten the movement of the lure when i’m walking the dog on top water.

    Why not make a retro, multi purpose, spinning rod? The original "blank through handle" rods were/are quite adaptable. Any modern rod shop could make one, substituting carbon fiber for fiberglass. Just loosen the retaining rings and move the reel up and down the cork disc handle. The action of the rod changes accordingly. Lighter baits, or heavier baits, or right in the middle.

    • @flatsclasscharters

      That is input I haven’t heard before

      Using one-piece carbon rods this way, the effect could be greater without the stiff junction of ferrules. The downside? Travel. Without a truck or trailer, 7 foot and longer rods are a hassle.

    What would you suggest for a rod for a 150xg curado dc. mainly top waters and swim baits.

    • @flatsclasscharters

      Of course it really depends on the weight of the top water or swim bait hook size you are swinging… but a MH/Fast tip would likely be a good choice for you.

  • @shawnewing1175

    What size leader and what length would you use for suspending plugs

    • @comfortablynumb9342

      Depends on how thick the hooks are. Thin hooks need a lighter action, heavier gauge hooks require a stiffer rod to set the hook.

    • @flatsclasscharters

      Shawn- medium leader weights and length are best for suspending plugs. Too long a leader or heavy weight leader will affect action and sink rate to a great degree. And yes treble hook size will change the type of tip action you’re going to need for proper hook penetration

    • @shawnewing1175

      You have sold me on inline hooks on your November video you said about four to six feet I'm using 14 pound mono and I keep a couple sizes of inline hooks and replace the treble hooks as soon as I take them out of the package I use about two feet of leader for top water

    • @shawnewing1175

      I use 20 mono for top water

    how does this compare to the Shimano teramar XX you were using for topwater?

    • @flatsclasscharters

      Very comparable with a few more options because Fitzgerald Rods have three compatible rod products between the Aqua Fin, All Purpose and Aqua Dream lineups that give you solid choices depending on personal preference for inshore needs.

    What is this diamond braid is as power pro V2

    • @flatsclasscharters

      I think you meant to say as good. They are both 8 strand braids that offer a round feel for better control. Diamond is definitely a softer more limp braid that makes seating knots for leader material much easier and its smoother casting at equal line weights. Both lines are high quality in my opinion

    CA, I throw the 6’8 Skeet Reese jerkbait/topwater rod. I cannot find a better blank. The Sensalite series from Shamino comes close…what Fitzgerald rod is “whippy?” The shimano Calcutta is the best reel ever made. Have them bring it back.

    • @flatsclasscharters

      The Vursa Series from Fitzgerald has some parabolic or in your words whippy actions that you may like… appreciate your input on our channel

    • @walleyechannel

      @@flatsclasscharters topwater is my specialty. I have primarily fished topwaters for 90% of my fishing from Mar-July. Since 1998. Monofilament is king, a “whippy” tip with a great backbone is a must but hard to find. Need a shorter handle for the wrist action. To walk a dog with returned success it is about pitch, cadence and persistence. One must make the lure froth back and fourth violently while barley moving the bait forward. I promise 95% of the people who fish a topwater and are mildly successful have no idea they aren’t working the lure no where near as hard as they need to. Ask me how I know….I specialize in catching walleyes on pencil poppers in Tennessee. How neat is that and I do it out of a micro Piranha skiff?

      I wouldn't discount the information & purchase of the Shimano rod based on what C.A recommend just because he's got a Fitzgerald in his hand now.
      Shimano is top shelf. Try some of those Fitzgeralds too. Even try some bulls bay rods.

      I wouldn't discount a brand I've never heard of, just to be fair. "top shelf", opposite to bottom shelf...? My comment had nothing to do with this brand of rods. I'm sure they are fine rods, I'm addressing a different issue.

      He’s trying to grow his brand and audience , he does represent great products and he does offer great advice on how to use those products and he even says use the same ideology on your own brands your loyal to . He’s not trying to sell you at all compared to other people, he tells you many great things as well as many great products that he uses to help with his success rate , yes he is sponsored by them but he only goes for the sponsors on companies he uses and likes before saying they are good
